Not that it matters all too much, but seems a shame to me that it's 21+ at the time of the show. Can't imagine too many people do it, but taking a kid to see Coach Schertz up close is something that can be really cool for them.

Agreed.  I would've taken my boys last night to listen and watch CF.  I emailed the AD and let them know it.

3 stops in a row is a “kill”.  Get 6 kills in a game you most always win.

7 straight stops to close out Richmond was 2 kills.  Won us the game.

Moral of the story- get more kills

CF? You forget who the coach is?

Bah. College Football.  I can't mention the team names, against my religion.

Ah, I get it now. The National Championship was so divorced from the Billiken coaches show in my brain.

Hopefully they realize the missed opportunity for generating excitement. At 21, even most college students can't go. Which is what's great about Hump's - makes it accessible to the student population (even if nobody goes). Although there is a huge lack of effort to get the college aged (like me) involved, but that's a different conversation

Humps is not owned by Jan anymore, so I am sure the new owners are not interested in giving the Athletic Dept any breaks like she would have.

Not sure I would say that, although I don't know the attitude of the new owners.  I would think that the success of SLU's Athletic Department, especially the men's basketball programs, is connected to the success of Humphries.  I would hope that they recognize this and are accommodating.

Feb 2 Schertz with Ackerman:

With such a great crowd, Coach was heartbroken the team couldn't deliver a win.

Dayton was finding ways to get open.  They scouted us well.  They outplayed us.  We had too many breakdowns.  We have a very small major for error.  Can't afford mental breakdowns.  Nine of their 11 3's were on scouting breakdowns.  We go under a screen or go to the wrong side of a ball screen or got stuck on a flair screen. We got beat on too many 50/50 balls.  There are a lot of areas you can point to.  We have been good defensively but we were not on Friday.  Have to generate better shots.  We didn't generate great shots that we needed.

They were super physical.  They were guarding Robbie with a 4 man (Santos) and stuck L' Entang in the paint to stop our drives. You don't have to account on Kalu on the perimeter.  They were super physical on Robbie.  We have to do a better job scheming.  What Robbie is seeing is a different guarding scheme.  They are taking away his pick and pop three's.  Guarding him with a smaller player and using their big on a help on his post ups.  Warlick or Pikaar or Brockhoff have to make their three's.  They have to step up.  Rob has to be stronger with the ball.  Last two drives he just missed the layups.  Those were aggressive down hill drives that he usually makes.  Everyone is game planning on Robbie.  He has the skill and competitiveness to overcome this.

Warlick was terrific.  He is such a cool story.  He started practice in Nov, and now he is playing huge minutes.  He gives us a different look than Kalu.  There are tradeoffs between him and Kalu.  Usually the transition from HS to college is difficult.  Physical and mental are different.  He is checking and clearing those boxes.  This week should give him a lot of confidence.

Ackerman asked about Thames. For now, he is out.  Thames will talk about his situation when he wants to.  He is practicing and traveling with the team.  Could he return this season, yes. Could he be out the rest of the year, yes.  He is handling a difficult situation with a lot of grace and positivity.  Certainly hope he can return and be at full strength.

Travel tomorrow.  Coach's show tomorrow is with CoachTillett.

Anybody got any theories on Thames. Seems to me to be more complicated than cramping.

Of course what Thames has is a lot more complicated than just cramps. Cramps are a symptom, not a diagnosis. There is something causing the cramps and they may or may not have a firm diagnosis at this time. Thames has some difficult issues to deal with. It is totally understandable that he will be allowed to do the talking about what is going on when the times come. Until then, when Thames talks about it, we have to wail.

Personally, I do not expect him to come back to playing with no restrictions.

I can be completely wrong but I feel there is more to this than medical.

I believe there is a major portion, if not all, that is medical. However, it is not unlikely that there may be non-medical factors involved as well. Time will tell.

Has he played in over 10 games? If not, can he take a medical redshirt?

Stats on the slubillikens site say 17 games played. I don't think he's eligible for a medical redshirt.

I dont know if there is anything outside of BB. But his limited playing time also means very limmited practice and he can't be effective that way. His div 1 bb career may be over. It's sad, as it appeared  that he was on the way to stardom, earlier  this year.

It's 50/50?

I think the real cause is medical, but I think it will be very tough for him to realize he will have to change his life plans, assuming his goal was the NBA.

I get the impression that they have a diagnosis, but the coaches don't want to talk about it unless Kellen releases the info first.  Basically, when Schertz is asked "what's wrong with Kellen?" he's rather consistently saying you will find out if and when Kellen tells you.

Schertz interview on Sports on a Sunday Morning, Feb 9

Coach has Chiefs in the Super Bowl, winning on a 'doink'.

Traveling back to the East Coast where Schertz grew up, "Yeah it beats Cedar Falls, Valpo, Evansville, etc."  He knew league was good, but surprised at how good the A10 is.  Amazed at parity in league.  No team is easy.

St Joe game, on film the first 15 min was good, but defense up and down.  We attacked the way we were guarded the best we have.  Kalu was attacking.  Some defensive breakdowns.  Near the end of the half, we missed some ball screens.  Second half we got beat up.  Effort, energy not as good.  We can't loose physicality even for a minute.  Kobe is our most consistent player.  Went to zone due to foul trouble.  61-57 with under five to go, we missed a layup and they took off. We have to figure it out the with 8 guys we have.  Robbie has to be better.  Same thing with Swope.

Jimerson:  hurt his ankle.  He is as tough a player as he has coached.  He isn't a guy that will sit out.  We will practice today and see how he is.  He saw the trainers yesterday (no practice).  So day to day.

George Mason is Top 10 Defense team in America.  Massive in size.  (GM is 9th in the Nation in Scoring Defense.)

I have noticed Kobe to also be our most consistent player. Anya needs to refrain from shooting 3s unless the shot or game clock demands it.

Avila needs to stow away his garbage YMCA bag of tricks. They won't work in this conference. Concentrate on how to use your body to box out and create low post angles. Ask Warlick for tips in that department if need be.

I haven't figured out Swope's bag yet. He's quick but his handles are questionable. Maybe Kobe needs to handle the ball more.

This all comes down to the A10 tourney.  We need Gibby healthy and bench roles carved out. If we cut the TOs down we got a chance. Only a few weeks left to find our groove. Go Billikens!
