2010andBeyond Posted March 17 Posted March 17 JJ Redick LOVES him some Jordan Goodwin. JGood got his second consecutive start today because LA has had some guys out with injury. After the game, JJ called out Goodwin as being “incredible” despite his box score of 2 pts, 4 fouls. If anyone else is like me and is getting somewhat disillusioned by the Billikens seemingly being stuck at mediocrity and the state of college basketball in general, I highly encourage you to check out the Lakers. They are on TV frequently and Goodwin has become a key piece for them. billiken_roy and MattyMo213 2 Quote

davidlee Posted March 17 Posted March 17 Roy How does the NBA pension work? What does Jordan need to do to qualify? Thanks Quote
billiken_roy Posted March 17 Posted March 17 i believe you first have to have 3 years of service. a year of service is credited as long as the player concerned plays one game in that year. so actually this year makes jordan qualified. however, the amount he will receive continues to escalate for additional years of service. and it would also go up if he waits to start collecting. the specifics on those last two things (additonal years of service and waiting to draw) i dont know. thetorch Posted March 18 Author Posted March 18 NBA players are vested in the pension fund after playing in games over 3 seasons. Goodwin was vested last year. Players hit the maximum pension after 10 years of service. Quote

This relation basing payment upon top income over a number of years is the way pensions are calculated for everybody that qualifies for pensions in any organization. First you have to meet the standards to get into the group getting the pension and fully vest, then comes how much you are going to get once you start getting paid from the pension. This "how much you get" issue depends on how much you make in any specific number of years. For example Social Security (which is not a regular style pension) will pay based upon your three most productive years when you were working and contributing to it. If J Good is already in the NBA pension, he will eventually get some payment from his pension. How much depends upon how long he is in the NBA and how much he makes per year. I may not be correct, but this is the way pensions everywhere work. Quote

You get paid a set amount per service year earned in the NBA. The pension amount is not connected to what you earned. Quote

Duff Man Posted March 18 Posted March 18 Goodwin started last night in the Lakers' win vs the Spurs, scoring 15 on 6-9 FG, 3-6 3PT, 4 REB, 3 AST, 3 STL, 1 BLK, 0 TO in 33 minutes. In 14 games, Goodwin is averaging 7.1 PPG and 4.1 RPG in 21.1 MPG. The Lakers seem content to exhaust his "free" games before converting him to a full NBA contract which should happen by next week. Once that happens, he'll be officially eligible for the Lakers postseason games this year and will most likely be locked up for 2026 if not 2027. 3star_recruit and CenHudDude 2 Quote

Tick,, tick, tick. JGood is eligible for five more games on his two-way contract. The Lakers will be on a road trip through the Midwest next week when Goodwin's eligibility runs out. If he continues to play (and start) during this stretch of the schedule when the Lakers have lots of back-to-backs (in part because of make up games from the fires in LA in January), his last game of eligibility will be Wed March 26 in Indianapolis. Assuming Goodwin gets a regular NBA contract (and that he remains on the roster through next week), he will play as a regular member of the Lakers in Chicago on Thursday, March 27 and in Memphis on Saturday, March 29. HoosierPal Posted March 22 Posted March 22 Taken from HoopsHype Currently, the LA Lakers have three players on two-way contracts: Jordan Goodwin, Trey Jemison III, and Christian Koloko. However, according to Jovan Buha of The Athletic, only two of them are expected to be converted to standard NBA deals. To make room, Cam Reddish and Alex Len are likely to be waived, while no other main roster players are expected to be cut. “There’s a chance [of all three two-way guys being converted], but realistically, it’s probably not gonna happen just because I think that the only two obvious players to cut on the roster are Cam Reddish and Alex Len,” Buha noted on his latest podcast. “Shake Milton has two more years of a non-guaranteed contract, which could be a valuable trade ship. Markieff Morris is a beloved figure in the locker room. He’s an internal leader; Luka loves him, and LeBron loves him,” Buha went on to say. 3 hours ago – via BasketNews Quote
