Demarius has turned in 2 solid games as a sub. He was a prime mover when we built our 10 pt lead in the 1st half. Kid’s a solid player who would start for a lot of D1 schools. Glad we have him.

He might have played himself into the driver's seat.

That baseline move and reverse layup in the second half was seriously key to shifting momentum and getting us back on track. He is so smooth. This is what a solid program with stability brings! A player with lots of talent comes in and plays spot roles their first two years but doesn’t leave! They stay the course cuz they know by junior and senior year they will be needed and their role is defined by the staff. We are so deep it’s crazy.

Almost everyone on this board ignored Demarius this off-season. It's like people forgot he was on the team. Granted, there's a ton of other guys to root for and be excited about, but DJ made a leap from Year 1 to Year 2. He went from unplayable to a solid (if inconsistent) rotation player getting 20mpg. If he doesn't make that leap (forced by injuries to GJ and FT), the team doesn't have the success that it does. Now it looks like he's made another leap. He's a great athlete with serious skill. Without his bench play, we don't win today.

Thatch's misfortune has been Jacobs opportunity.  And he's taken full advantage.  Basketball is often a microcosm for life in general.

He had a quiet 2nd half, but that baseline move saved our ass. LSU had just gone on a 9-2 run and were gearing up to get a big stop. Perkins was gassed on that possession, too. We needed it.

Terrific shot by Demarius. He was 5-5 from the floor, made his only 3 pt. attempt and 2-2 from the stripe. His play was crucial to the win.

Some guys thrive as a sixth man ---- Perkins, Vinnie Johnson, Ibi Watson, Harden (at OKC) ---- maybe Demarius is a perfect fit for this role.

In the past I have been critical, not of Jacobs, but of the admiration that some on this board were giving him without, IMO, his having earned it.  After early returns this season, I am prepared to say that I will be very comfortable with Demarius stepping into the Perkins roll next year.  It will be hard to match Perk's production, but I'm excited that we have Jacobs to hand this role over to.  After another year of maturation, he should be ready to take a big step forward and take on a huge role.
