Hometown hero: Jayson Tatum

The best possible situation with Tatum not coming here did happen. Tatum shows SLU love so much, and Ford uses that along with Smart.3 likes -

All you have to do to sign a top 3 high school player is to sign his point guard. Every MBM knows that. Why mid-major programs across the country have not caught on is a mystery.3 likes -
-for those advocating a strategy assistant to replace CGiacoletti, do you think CFord takes this sort of advice from his assistants? I understand the assistants take turns on scouting reports but I would be surprised, probably shocked, if ways to play against a scouted opponent or in-game tactics from others are used by CFord2 likes

I don’t get why it bothers posters like you so much. Tatum seriously considered going to SLU. That is fact. We don’t get anything from it, of course. It shows how little some on here know about the history of the situation that Justin was brought up as some authoritative source. Justin didn’t even have enough sway to get Jayson to play for him in high school.2 likes -

Every hometown message board says this. Hardcore Depaul fans were sure they were getting Jabari Parker, for example. In fact, Depaul basketball did everything a fan could want to get him. They signed his best friend. They hired his best friend's dad. Parker's family attended Depaul's Midnight Madness. Parker was a regular at Depaul games. And Parker committed to Duke anyway. Because committing to big name coaches and programs is what top 3 players do today. This isn't the 1990s. Months before he officially made a commitment, Tatum began blogging about his basketball life. It read like a Duke recruiting brochure.2 likes -

I am probably one of the most rose colored glasses guy about our program but why can we accept the fact that he was never coming to SLU.2 likes -

Has he ever coached a college basketball game? If not he's not qualified. Was hoping Will Bailey was available, but it looks like he went with Frank Martin to UMass.2 likes -

We don’t need a recruiter, we need a strategy guy, someone who can help coach us thru a game. I think it’s fair to say Ford needs help in that area. A name that won’t excite anyone that I like is Bob Sundvold.1 like

I like the idea of a Villanova guy who has east coast ties. Looking at the recent ACs there though the pickins are slim because they generally retain ACs for multiple years and promote from within. Only former AC I can find who isn't currently a HC elsewhere would be Ashley Howard (recently fired LaSalle coach). Despite his rough go with LaSalle, Howard would actually be a really good hire IMO if we could land him. Another guy with Nova ties who would've been interesting is Matt Fraschilla (never an AC at Nova, but was on staff as a DBO for multiple years), but he was just recently hired as an AC at Harvard.1 like

I do believe at some point Jayson considered going to SLU but I also believe the narrative that he was going until the last few days was false. Nothing in the ESPN article says otherwise. I also think not wanting to play for your father is a good decision. The unfortunate fact is that with the exception of Hughes all local 5 stars have gone elsewhere. Maybe after a few NCAA runs that can change.1 like

https://www.courierpress.com/story/sports/2022/06/01/evansville-purple-aces-marcus-wilson-joins-david-ragland-staff/7462411001/ Wilson is quite happy with his new gig at Evansville. He gets to see his retired jersey daily. He is helping his good friend David Ragland rebuild the Aces. Another of his Evansville teammates, Craig Snow, was also hired. He ain't coming to SLU.1 like -

Do we hire Micheal Wilson again and make a serious run at John Bol? Surely we can offer better pay than Evansville.1 like -

OLD GUY...I'll only say it once, because apparently it hasn't gotten through to you yet - NIL does not require that donors/boosters/business partners/etc profit from their NIL investments, and nobody is insisting that it is standard that they do. These guys are simply throwing money at their favorite team's best players. Stop over complicating it.1 like -
As I understood it Jensen was a good teacher and X’s and O’s guy for Rick, but he hated recruiting which is 75% of the college job. Good for him. The NBA sounds like the perfect fit for Alex.1 like
