  1. I would encourage everyone on here to make sure you follow all of our players on Twitter or any other social media platform you might be on. Engage with their account by replying to and/or retweeting occasional posts from them. Encourage family members and other fans you know to do the same. This may seem silly, but this is the kind of stuff people looking to spend ad dollars on social media platforms look at when determining who to spend money with. This is something simple we all can do to help the program when it comes to the NIL battle.

  2. Ah, as a good lawyer would say, that gives rise to the question of "what constitutes a difference maker?" Sometimes I think people underestimate how important it is to have players in practice who will push your starters to get better. If the starters don't need to go all out in practice, they won't. That's human nature. It is hard to push yourself every day to do things that you don't appear to need to do. Much easier to get better when there is someone in practice pushing you, forcing you, to get better. You need depth that will push the starters. If the coaches can find a kid who's going to come in and push one of the starters, particularly one of our bigs, I say take him - whether he's an in-game difference maker or not. Sometime I think French suffered from not having a big who forced him to deal with a shot-blocker in practice. It is tough to suddenly have to develop that ability in a game if you haven't developed it in practice. Trust in Ford. He knows whether adding a player will help the team, or any particular player on the team, or not.

  4. A google search shows Sekeue in Lanaster TX, co-founder of YES, Youth Empowerment Society. He is also listed as a Teacher and Coach in the Dallas ISD. BS from SLU in Business, Management, Marketing, and Related Support Services.

  5. Part of me wonders if the administration no longer thinks the A10 is the best option both for athletics and for recruiting students overall. The school has to find a way to attract kids from the south going forward. Not only do more kids live in the south than the northeast, more Catholic kids live in the south now than the northeast now. If the American would take us, it makes a lot more sense now than it did in the past. I still think the Big East would be the best option, because the overall exposure the conference gives members, but I don’t think that is happening anytime in short or medium term.

  6. Not only that, the 3-point line wasn’t even a thing. Can you imagine the final tally with the 3-ball in play for Oscar? You could arguably make him 1c to Kareem 1b and Jordan being 1a. Oscar won, scored and thrived at every level - from high school, college and pros. Got to the Final Four in 58 & 59. Won a gold medal for Christ sake at the 60 Rome games, 71 champs in Milwaukee. The man did it all.

  7. when torch said "second best pg" i assumed he meant oscar or magic would be #1. my question is how the other isnt #2? personally i am preferential to Oscar as #1. imo Oscar is #2 greatest player of all time deferring to jordan for #1. he was mr triple double before that was even a thing.

  8. Let's be honest. Three of those guys are Valley-level recruits. Hard workers and good teammates but their numbers speak for themselves. To land Texas players a notch above that, we would have to beat out mid-level Big 12 programs.

  9. This seems important. Also, instead of dwelling on Jolly (or other board favorite Obi), how about considering some of the other guys we've gotten from Texas? Danny Brown, Cory Remekun, David Burns, Virgel Cobbin, Larry Simmons - that's a sneaky tough lineup right there.

  12. Just wanted to report that the wife and I had been visiting St. Louis several weeks ago, and just happened to drop by SLU's campus while the Humphrey's front doors were open. The couple inside cleaning it up were extremely nice folk, apparently restaurant owners in Clayton. One of them had parents who met at Humphreys while at SLU, so it sounds like Humphreys has special value for these people and they truly want to bring it back for SLU community. Humphreys meant a lot when I was at SLU as well, so that nearly brought tears to my eyes seeing them putting some elbow grease in and hand scrubbing the floor and bar area all by themselves. Will be very excited to visit when it reopens and I am in town again. Humphreys is in good hands again everyone.

  14. unless it is a difference maker or unless it is a senior willing to be an enthusiastic practice player with a great attitude, i couldnt care less if we fill the spots this year. Ford wont play them. save them. particularly with the new transfer rules. when a player of substance becomes available, we want the ability to grab them and promise them time.

  15. A developmental shot-blocking big makes sense to add for this season. I always like having a shot-blocker among the bigs. I like JBell, but he didn't add that element. Both he and Linnsen are below the basket bigs, so a bit redundant. Now, we have a chance to add a big who brings something different.

  16. My wife and I have stayed in touch with Rasheed Malik. Rasheed has stayed in touch with Larry Simmons and Sekeue. I believe they are all in the Houston area. Rasheed who lost his senior year to a heart condition is a school teacher.

  18. I believe so. I swear he'd trip over those invisible hurdles on the court, too. I lost track of how many times he'd just fall down in the middle of a game for no good reason.

  20. Williams is a priority because he is a Southern Assualt kid, could be a guy you run the offense through and he has a lot of Jordan Goodwin in him.

  21. Great info here on Williams’ recruitment from @Midtown Madness. I’m surprised WIlliams is still a priority with SLU already having commitments from Thames and Kramer, but I know it’s hard to pass on a top 150 talent if you have a chance to get him.

  22. Miller is excellent. Smith has been their best player, but both of them have looked like 5-star caliber players for most of the EYBL/Peach Jam so far. Watching Miller and Smith with Fears, I wonder if BBE would've been better off letting Fears go play for Mac Irvin or MeanStreets. There were a few times yesterday when Miller had a rebound and could have and/or should have given it to Fears to start the offense but either dribbled past him, threw it cross court to Smith, or otherwise ignored him. Once I noticed the top two guys sort of ignoring Fears, I kept noticing it. They were never like that with Martin. Fears is younger and less experienced and has played less with them, plus we've already talked about his poor decision making at times. I think BBE would be even better with him still there, even if Fears is the bigger talent (and physically bigger).

  23. A great end to a crappy season. Giannis is the first player to score 50 to win the NBA championship since Bob Pettit had 58 for the St. Louis Hawks. This is the start of Giannis' legacy now. I feel like he's been overlooked the past couple years, maybe outside of the discussion as a top 5 player. Now this cements his status as the top talent in the league. While I like Chris Paul I feel he has been way overrated in his career, partially thanks to his outsized 07-08 season which is adored by advanced stats geeks. Great player, HOFer, but he's a loser and a choke artist. No way he deserves to be considered the 2nd best PG of all time. This keeps him firmly behind Thomas in my book and a dead heat or slightly behind Stockton.

  24. Zion was 22nd in the leage in offensive rebound percentage ahead of guys like Joel Embiid and Bam Adebayo. Bruce Brown tied with him and he is the only guy shorter than Zion tied or higher on the O reb % leaders. However, Zion was only 83rd in defensive rebounding percentage. He's behind among others Steph Curry, Tyler Herro, and James Harden. Even on the Pelicans he is behind Josh Hart and Steven Adams with Lonzo Ball and Brandon Ingram right on his heels. Admittedly I did not watch much Pelican basketball this past season. However, those stats tell me that Zion's overall lack of defensive rebounding likely has more to do with their team rebounding scheme than Zion himself. Perhaps New Orleans' plan has been for Zion let another guy grab the rebound and then streak down the court trying to get a fast break opportunity (where he can uncork one of his highlight reel dunks). I do think that some of what you're saying about Zion is true (rebounding looks like a hole in his game, playing soft / afraid of injury). I'm just saying the basic stats may be a little deceiving. That being said, I think Zion needs to work on defense the most. If New Orleans is going to play him as a forward, he has to be able to guard on the perimeter. His freakish size and athleticism allowed him to be a good defender in college, but he's been pretty mediocre in the NBA.

  25. Giannis averaged 4 rebounds in his second year, at 31 minutes per game. Zion averaged 7.

  26. That is a little harsh. He averaged 27 pts on 61% shooting. That was the best in the NBA for anyone scoring over 20 pts. Giannis was next at 56%. Certainly, more rebounds, true, but it was Zion’s second year, right? Who else has done anything better than that in the NBA? That team should focus on getting more rebounding. Trade some players, or maybe draft the best rebounding combo guard of the last 20 years. Something.

  28. Even if he doesn't stick in the NBA beyond a year or two, having him drafted and getting minutes would be a nice win for Ford and SLU.
