Complain about the A-10 not SLU.

Actually, more broadly complain about the state of college bball. It's bigger than just the A-10. It's not exactly a good environment for mid-major programs. Even the Big East was complaining about getting squeezed out of Tourney bids.

Am I the only one that was impressed with the billikens yesterday? The pieces and the style of play are clearly there to do great things this year. Without Robbie's injury, I am confident that we win that game vs a very good Santa Clara team.

There's definitely things that need to be cleaned up, but that was expected with the number of newcomers and gelling to the new system.

I was high on Schertz going into yesterday and I am still extremely high after yesterday. Need to get Robbie healthy, but if we do, this is a tournament team.

I’m not willing to say impressed with a loss (we saw plenty of that before), but some guys played well (Thames was really good and Swope can fill it up). Team defense will get better and the turnovers can get cleaned up with more game action together. You are right the pieces are there. We need a healthy 21 when he is ready.

I think you're missing the point. Nobody's saying he played great. He had 3 boards and a steal. He turned it over once. Only Thames played more and committed fewer TOs. That's kind of what you want from him, only the shooting was off. He shot 41% his first year, increased his volume fourfold and shot 36% last year. We kind of know who Hughes is. Casey and Dotzler were supposed to be upgrades over the talent at the end of the Ford years and it doesn't seem like they are. That's why I'm not going to crap on Hughes.

I think I just disagree with the point. But that may be more out of frustration from thinking we were really deep, only to have 31 bench minutes and 0 bench points. And 19 of those minutes were Larry’s.  I expected him to be more of an 8-10 minute/game player, with more if he’s making shots in any specific game.   Maybe that will be the case with Johnson back.

Looking at the box score, they had 9 guys play double digit minutes, we had six.  We looked gassed by the end.  Gibson playing 40 minutes and Swope playing 38 will not be sustainable.  Hopefully we are able to develop some decent depth.

I’ll also give some props to Santa Clara, they were well coached.  Their 7 foot German was extremely impressive, and you could see why Bal is talked about as a potential pro.

As far as our outlook, if Robbie is out against Wichita I don’t like our chances in that one. And you’d have to think we basically have to run the table OOC for an at large- no easy feat with games at San Fran and Grand Canyon.  Frustrating.

I want to remind everyone that our HOF coach went 16-15 his first year including a barn burner where we scored 20 points. And he said that it was a process to instill his system with his players. That worked out pretty well after what were 4 pretty unispiring years. The sky isn't falling.

Yesterday sucked, no doubt. But it is one freaking game, where we had a starter not suited up and our centerpiece go down at a critical point. Oh, and guess what? The other team wants to win also and has a coach that's paid to figure out how. Stress about RA being hurt, not losing one game.

BTW, if anyone cares, Herb Sendek desperately wanted the SLU job when TF was hired.

RA has such a unique skill set that it’s hard to play without him for an extended period. I guess that you could say that if most any team saw their best player down though.

imo that lack of floor time considering hughes by himself had almost twice the time as the two of them, says that the coaching staff doesnt see their worth.   and since they see them play and interact with them every day, i think i will go along with the coaching staff.  so i think i agree with crewsorlose.  at least at this point.   they obviously need to improve or get healthier or something.

If you only agree at this point and are open to the possibility that they can get better or healthy, I am not sure you agree.

This is a 2-part issue.  On the one hand, the A10 has allowed laggard programs to get by with sub-par commitment (bad facilities, etc) and the A10 has not been aggressive enough in attracting better programs.  On the other hand, SLU's recent on-court results have done very little to elevate the prestige of the A10.

We just need to win the games in front of us.  Too early to fret.

Get used to what you watched. This is exactly how ISU played with Schertz as the coach. A ton of threes, little defense, and very little use of the bench. He plays his five most the game, maybe one or two get limited time off the bench due to foul trouble. I guess money can't buy wins

Dude, your team won 32 games last year..
