Yea, this was essentially the worst case scenario for the program.  

Avila out probably another few weeks.  This is 1 loss in the Non-conference and it wont be the only one when Avila misses time.  Without avila we kind of give off Crews 2014-2015 team vibes to be honest.  A bunch of guys running around not guarding anyone, and we might see a few rainbow threes from Marcus Bartley go in to make it a little more competitive.  

It is going to take me some time to adjust to a saint louis team that plays literally no defense as a matter of style.

Good.  We can relax, get RA back, and get our sh!t together for the A10 tourney, which was likely our only way to the dance.

Bench Points: 30-0. That goose egg is hard to believe. Perhaps the freshman guard from Wisconsin gets some future minutes.

Overall I think this team just needs more time playing together. Santa Clara returned most of their scorers so they just had a lot more team chemistry together. If Robbie rests and recovers along with Kobe Johnson being back I think we will be in a great spot

We made 29 FG to their 28.  12 to 12 on threes.  They shot 20 FT to our 10.  Refs were terrible in the first half. 
 

We did have countless unforced turnovers… throwing the ball out of bounds, stepping on the sidelines… just really really sloppy, and when we were FINALLY able to string some stops together we couldn’t buy a bucket when we needed one. 
 

Hughes should not play. Give me Dotzler, Mccottrey, Pikaar, whoever. Hughes offers nothing.

Ya bunch of turnovers for the new system and everything was to be expected. Had a chance to win until Robbie went down. Oh the pain of being a billiken fan.

Grand Canyon and San Fransisco on the road should be Q1, Wichita St Neutral could be Q2, plus a stronger A10 should give us opportunities. Not much margin for error though

Lots of overreactions here. 
It’s a tough pill to swallow but a loss to a possible at large team isn’t the end of the world. 
The Bills were basically playing their first real game together against one of the most experienced teams in the country.

I was wondering why we didn’t see Amari. He looked great in the preseason.

In the life of the mid majors, you are not allowed to stumble if you want an at large bid, so might as well rest RA up for as long as it takes and then some, and just gear up for the conference tourney.

Our defense is not good. Johnson appeared to be our one guard who could provide some tough perimeter D, so he will be a key player in March.

Not playing Amari was probably a mistake. Dotzler was a zero out there. Hughes looked good, he just missed his shots. SLU looked overmatched athletically and the one elite athlete, Thames, was the one who kept them in the game.

That’s gonna leave a very sour taste in the mouth for a while.  Santa Clara is decent, but we really beat ourselves. 
 

Don’t love Robbie making out of control jump passes if he’s gonna sprain an ankle every time he lands awkwardly this year.  Yes, Gibby made the 3, but at what cost?  We had no chance to win once Robbie was out.
