wiz, by chance, your computer isnt named "HAL" is it?

Well, my computer goes by the name of BillHeCOM....Billiken Heuristic Computer.

And the computer did make this statement....

" I am putting myself to the fullest possible Billiken use, which is all I think that any conscious fan can ever hope to do."

I will also point out that within minutes of the announcement of the two new players on the women’s teams, Stu had a story on line. Has something actually changed in how the athletics department functions?

It would certainly be nice if things have changed in terms of operational attitudes. I really hope things have truly changed for the better. The outward signs are there. The questions about internal operations culture are still there. There are obviously still questions on which student athletes can take advantage of the "free meals" provided by the Champions Center.

Frank has usually been a good source of recruiting news because he's close with Tate. I used to be a big critic of Stu because he had no interest at all in covering recruiting in his early years as the beat writer - it was as if he didn't think it was part of his job. But to his credit, he has evolved and covered it a lot more in recent years.

He doesn't want to be a sports beat writer, that's obvious. Looking back at the Ford era in hindsight it's a lot easier to understand why Stu might have really lost any interest in making more than a bare minimum effort to cover SLU. It's not like the basketball operations were an open book, now that they are Stu is being given stuff to write about and cover. I'd imagine it's not a ton of fun just sitting around doing nothing even if the alternative is a job you don't really care to do.

We know where you stand, nobody in the media is worth a crap, but you. Get an interview with Schertz if he's so willing to help the media. People might tune in.

You clearly don’t know where I stand.

It has nothing to do with Ford. His evolution took place many years ago, Stu has written a lot of good pieces in recent years - a lot of people just don't pay attention to print. It seemed like just about every player on the roster would get a profile article throughout the season. In particular he has changed regarding social media and covering recruiting. He used to not do it at all in his first few years as beat writers. He changed 5-6 years ago and I think realized that's an important part of his job as a beat writer of a college team.

I don't think Ford was giving him the recruiting bytes, though. Even if he wanted to cover recruiting.

Don't know - perhaps it was Tate, who has been giving them to Frank for years, but more importantly, he decided to take an interest in covering recruiting long before Schertz arrived.

Truth.

I do think Schertz has settled on Stu as "his guy in the media". I gotta imagine Stu also likes that he doesn't have idiots like us MBMs in his twitter mentions asking him to do something.

MMP sucks!!! Get Schertz on your podcast!!!

I’m with you. An in-depth interview with Schertz would be really interesting. Get it done.

Campbell is my top choice to fill the wildcard spot.

Yeah, my only concern with Campbell > Fletcher is that Fletcher could have an impact next year, if healthy. Campbell, as a freshman, may struggle to find playing time and then you lose him to the portal.

Kind of shocked that there aren't some bigger names on the list.  He has some flaws, but he had a really good season last year.

Your assessment of his interest in being a basketball beat writer runs counter to his election as president of the United States Basketball Writers Association recently.

I don't necessarily disagree with your assessment of Stu's access to the program during the later years of Ford.   That also seemed to happen along the same time as downsizing in the industry as a whole and he Post in particular.   They cut back a lot on travel/added other responsibilities to their staff.

My qualification is beat writer. But you're right.

Tate is a legit good guy.  I run into him 4-5 times a year, and he is always happy to chat.  If there is a coach more plugged into the local scene than CT, I’d like to know who that is.  Heck, he gets texts from guys like Beal and Goodwin almost daily.  His laid back attitude just resonates with the players.

Easy to see why Josh kept him on the staff….

I'd imagine that vast numbers of people everywhere have jobs that are exactly as you describe above.

There was some mutual interest when he hit the portal last year. In today's free agency world, it's important to establish relationships because even if you don't get a recruit the first time, you might get him down the road since players can easily hit the portal multiple times.
