Billikenswin
Some resign under fire...but I have no reason to believe that was the case here. The bottom line is that some folks have more information than others and not all can be shared on an internet sports discussion site. Carter left on his own for his own reasons. We have three terrific new frosh guards who saw an opportunity and are excited about being a Billiken. There is no need to further beat this very dead horse. slufan13
I'd rather be in the situation we're in now. 1. Part of the reason McCall and Jett became so great was because they were thrown into the fire as freshmen. That experience was huge. I've said it before, but in a lot of ways "The Situation" was almost a blessing for the team. I want these freshmen thrown into the fire from the start. Yeah McBroom, Yacoubou, and Crawford are there in the backcourt and at the 3, but these guys are going to have to play. Getting them playing time as freshmen is a big deal. If Carter were here, that playing time may be stunted a bit throughout the first 2 years of their careers. 2. Carter sucks. 5.7 ppg, 2.3 apg, 1.7 tpg at Valpo
hsmith19
Carter shot 40% from 3 last season. Everybody here was very high on him when he committed to Majerus. Yeah, that story's over for us now, but I'm not sure what the point is of pretending Carter is a scrub. All indications are is he's a good outside shooter, and lord knows this team could do worse than having another one of those.

hsmith19
But Carter shot 100% here! He will go down in history as the Eddie Gaedel of Billiken outside shooters.
cheeseman
By the way, they did NOT force Carter out. It was one-sided and we were left holding the bag. I never said we forced Carter out - what I said was that based on what you were saying that had Carter not left on his own then we would have forced him out then. You really need to read more carefully - you just keep ramping it up and losing sight of what is actually being said.
cheeseman
Just to clear the air - I never said nor believed that Carter was forced out by JC - all I ever believed or said was that the since the only reasons we have for Carter leaving are the ones that have been made public then hanging your hat on supposed other reasons that may or may not be true only heightens all the feelings about the situation. I thought Carter had potential and was sorry to see him leave but as others have said, it is over so lets move on. By the way one of the problems with having inside info is that you can not share it readily so it would be best in my opinion that if you have inside info just keep the entire thing to yourself and then nobody gets embroiled in silly arguments. slufan13
It was made public that we screwed Jared Drew over, but a lot of people quietly showed a different side of that story too. We all seemed to accept that. Why can't we do that with Carter?
jimbofive
But Carter shot 100% here! He will go down in history as the Eddie Gaedel of Billiken outside shooters. The fuoked up thing is I remember that lone three pointer vividly... He laserballed one in from the right wing, in transition. The only reason I remember is because I was so excited to see what kind of player he'd become. Now I could give 2-4 shits.

hsmith19
Carter was 2/2 here. If I remember correctly, the second one was a pretty nice shot also. I was disappointed to see him go; no reason to pretend otherwise. McBroom should be able to fill his role pretty well going forward, though. I'm very glad at least one of the two stuck here. GOSLU68
KYVI news just said Berry is still considering SLU as one of his four likely choices. I could see a redshirt year where he pays his own tuition or gets a President's scholarship for being Easy Ed's grandson but whatever is legal

Paul was a smart kid, probably 3rd or 4th year in Med School now, is Berry that smart?
brianstl
I would normally think the idea of someone like Berry transferring and walking on is crazy, but Cam Biedscheid just did it at Mizzou.
ACE
KYVI news just said Berry is still considering SLU as one of his four likely choices. I could see a redshirt year where he pays his own tuition or gets a President's scholarship for being Easy Ed's grandson but whatever is legal It seems like the only possibility at this point is if somebody suddenly left (I hope that doesn't happen). Berry could go JUCO for a year, but that also seems very unlikely. I'm not sure if this would be possible at this point, but I wonder if Gillman would be willing to go to prep school for a year. I assume they give scholarships to prep schools? I don't think that would be fair to AG , but perhaps the idea of using a year to play in games would be more appealing than sitting out as a redshirt. Even that scenario seems far-fetched. At this point it looks like the Nolan Berry ship has sailed. I never understood why he committed to Butler so early. I know they were a trendy program at the time, but things can change quickly in the world of college bball. If he would pay his way for a year great, but that also seems doubtful. I'm just not convinced that the kid would be a difference-maker who we would want to jump through a bunch of hoops to creata a spot for. kshoe
I would normally think the idea of someone like Berry transferring and walking on is crazy, but Cam Biedscheid just did it at Mizzou. I seem to remember some debate on this board about it, but are we sure he had to pay his way? They had Jankovich transfer out mid-season so that scholarship would have been available for him? Even if he did pay for one semester at Mizzou as an in-state student, that is far cheaper than a full year at SLU for Nolan. The NCAA is very strict about what non-athletic scholarships you can give to walk-ons, otherwise you'd have the Kentuckys of the world giving 5 academic scholarships in addition to their 13 basketball ones. I suspect the boat has floated on Nolan. This report may have been made before we got the Yarbrough commitment. Honestly, even if he wanted to walk-on, I'm not sure he is our best use of the single 2015 scholarship that hasn't been claimed (absent oversubscribing and way to premature transfer talk). We need to aim really high with that one scholly.

The Mizzou reporter from the Columbia Tribune stated he had to walk on for the semester and that Jankovich counted against the total for Mizzou for the full year. slu72
Can we end this thread-Nolan B. is like Josh H.-Gone and Forgotten Agreed. Obviously if the staff wanted him they wouldn't have gone so hard after Yarborough, or, at the least, tried to get Berry to speed up his decision, ie "We have to know soon, or we're moving on, Nolan. Best of luck to you." My guess is the staff wasn't all that impressed by Nolan's year at Butler and saw more upside in MY. By the way, kind of like our new recruit's initials. It'll be fun posting on game day threads when he does something spectacular, MY oh MY!
