  1. The continued call ups of Lletget, Arriola, and Roldan are baffling. I can stomach Acosta as a depth player. They must have some very compromising photos of Egg. Lletget is particularly surprising considering his tantrum/non-celebration after not being dressed in the Costa Rica game.

  2. If Yuri really does play 33-34 min a game, then nobody besides Yuri will be playing much at point. But if Yuri gets 3 fouls in the first half on the road, Nesbitt can competently fill the playmaker role. That's who he's been most of his basketball life. His scoring prowess is a relatively late development.

  3. It makes no sense to me how Sargent decided to go to Norwich after multiple years where his biggest issue at club level was playing for a team who couldn't provide service or goal scoring opportunities.

  4. Oh that's coming this year I guarantee it.

  5. I very much enjoyed the prediction of 30 points by Collins in a game for a team that only averages 66 ppg. When you go against convention, you go all in.

  6. Even Ken Pomeroy would tell you not to put much stock in preseason KenPom rankings, especially with a young team. He had us at 142 preseason two years ago and we ended up going 23-8 and finishing 62nd overall. In 2014-2015 he had us at 81 in the preseason and we ended up going 11-21 finishing 289th in the nation.

  9. I remember watching that video and saying the same thing. I recall thinking that I didn't care if he wasn't highly recruited, I wanted him to be a Billiken.

  10. I think Nesbitt is our second best point guard, Question is will he play very much at point

  11. I think Traore may play, not because he's the 9th best, but I think Franco and Linssen will run into foul problems often. Jones is our next best option at PG Then Strickland's athleticism/D vs Lorentsson's shooting will be matchup-based for sure

  12. You can't take all the favorites Roy, you have to go with a long shot every once in awhile. Thatch at 7.5 is a long shot, but he's who I'm going with.

  13. I look at Larry Brown as a move by the Memphis powers to be a mentor to Penny with the goal being to keep Penny, a local favorite, while at the same time keeping the fan base happy. No doubting Penny's recruiting abilities. He's right up there with the worst of them; Calipari, Pearl, et al. But getting premium talent is not enough to get the job done. You have to be able to coach it as well. Brown will bring that talent to fruition, while at the same time tutoring Penny in the finer points of coaching. I view Brown as more of a consultant than an assistant coach. He's old enough that a HC position is not his goal at this point. That should ease Penny's mind so he's not looking over his shoulder wondering if his replacement is sitting next to him on the bench. Memphis wants Penny to succeed as he is a favorite son type coach and firing him would be a bad optic. They're gonna give him everything he needs to make Messphis a big time power.

  14. Larry Brown probably walked into memphis and thought "this is a sh** show, but the price is right." I hope he's just cashing checks and adding to his trust.

  16. Ford recap 11/4/21 on 101ESPN - Regarding losing Goodwin/French. Tough to lose any senior but especially two guys who have so much leadership and impact. Plus losing Perkins to a tough injury. But that's part of the game - It's been a tough week having lost Perkins. He's worked so hard in the offseason. Gained 20 lbs of strength. Feels so bad for him. But the team has to pivot. We did so much to get Perkins shots. Now we will be looking at different options. Not just one person. Has to be done by committee. But we can do that. Love the challenge. Timing not great. Have to make sure each opportunity in practice/games to learn and get better - How do you get so many new faces to play together so quickly. With all the transfers in college and turnover of roster, it's difficult to develop that culture and chemistry. Fortunate to have Collins, Thatch, Hargrove, Jimerson having been in the program so long. They will teach the new guys the culture. Culture develops chemistry. Thatch and Collins will have to have a great presence in the lockerroom. - We went a whole season without eating a meal together. Never all in the lockerroom together. Back in as a group. Enjoying team bonding. Not back to 100% normal but real close. Last year put a strain on any team's culture - On Ford Stuen. It's been difficult. Some days better than others. He had such a presence especially this time of year. Any time there's a "first" (practice, game) it's hard. Family is supporting each other. Courtney and Penn have been around the team. It's been difficult. Plan to honor Ford before Tuesday's game. Get to the game early. Going to do some special things for Ford. Courtney and Ford's mom and dad and Ford's friends will be there. Going to be special. - On there always being "something" in his seasons at SLU. Nobody said it's easy. I tell our guys this is part of life. This prepares you for real life. Playing college basketball isn't "real life". These things are real life situations. Try to use them to learn from and be stronger. Not make excuses. Build relationships and memories of a lifetime. The goal is to go out and win games but use this opportunities to be stronger.

  17. Marcos’ family is from Brazil. He is a wing midfielder/forward. He made it all the way out of state and regionals, to the USYS U16 National Semifinals this summer, with his former club team, All Nations Sports Academy out of Houston. (They played at the same place and time as 3 current Billikens (Anderson, Townsend, Ross, who also made it to the national Semifinals two age groups older.) Marcos is a good finisher, especially in space. Plays well from the wing midfield or up top. He is strong technically on the ball. He can also play CM. Marcos switched to Rise this fall. They play MLS Next Academy ball. (St. Louis City and St. Louis FC also play in different divisions of that) His division includes teams from Texas, Louisiana, and Colorado. The Boys Academy Director at Rise, spent four years as an academy coach in St. Louis at SLSG.

  18. All guards on that roster. Hope Goodwins skillet doesn't pigeonhole him into playing a different position and lose development time.
