First Day of Practice Recap by Stu Durando

Recommended Posts

Brief summary: Coach doesn't do traditional drills like running, backboard slap, etc. Instead he uses game play activities in practice for conditioning. Lots of up and down the court, but playing basketball. Indications are the players prefer it and it works; GibJim said he's in his best shape.

Is it really all that different than what most other coaches are doing these days?

Something to look for Friday and try to figure out the rotation. Who are the 7, 8 who have separated from the rest.

My guess is Gibby, Robbie, Swope, Anya and Johnson are the starters.

bench rotation: Thames, Casey, Larry and Dotzler... I think Dotzler could be a factor, perhaps taking some minutes from LH. At minimum, I think he is probably "separating" from the freshmen guards.

Reading that article reminded me that one of Ford’s excuses after one (of the many) losses last season was that the team “wasn’t in shape” like a month into the season.  he was something else…

Could be why his phone isn’t ringing off the hook with HC opportunities. My guess is we’ll see him in a broadcast booth somewhere.

My first thought when reading the Durando story was that the Jimerson comment probably had less to do with the limited number of practices and more about the overall excitement about the new opportunity and the work he is doing outside of practice.  And a culture that rewards the extra work.

1. Nobody knows if his phone is "ringing off the hook" or not.

2. If it isn't, I don't think it's anything deeper than the fact that he failed spectacularly the last two seasons of his tenure here.

3. Really going out on a limb there.

He is sitting on a boatload of $, maybe he let the phone off the hook.

Problem is, his value to a team is no longer required. He's a recruiter, nothing else.

Just curious .... anyone know if Ford is still living in St. Louis?

Anyway, my guess is Travis ends up doing TV analyst work.

They really haven't used Johnson at all for publicity or anything and I've heard staff is very high on Dotzler.

My guess is Avila, Swope, Gibby, Anya, and Thames/Dotzler are starting. Thames/Dotzler, Hughes/Johnson and Casey/Brockhoff would be your primary rotation pieces. Guessing only two of Hughes/Johnson and Casey/Brockhoff will see regular minutes.

Next to Crewes?

He is. Strangly enough, I was working out at the Olivette Anytime Fitness a few weeks ago and saw someone I thought was Ford get out of a range rover in front of the gym. He walked in front of the gym and into a permitting office next door. When I left I walked around to the back of the car and it had a temp plate with "T Ford" written vertically on the side.

I fuoking would.

Wasn't Chris Mack just content walking the beach in Venice, Florida for a couple seasons before he got call from Charleston (a low pressure job). I am sure he got calls from P6 schools that put a lot more $ on the table than Charleston.

You never know what's in someones head.
