Saw this note in Dan Caesar's column today. Not sure I fully understand what it really means:

Billikens move to Matrix

The Missouri Valley Conference is moving the portion of its TV package of men’s and women’s basketball telecasts that in the St. Louis market had been shown on Bally Sports Midwest to Matrix Midwest.

That’s the recently rebranded outlet owned by KMOV (Channel 4) parent company Gray Media that is being pointed toward become a sports hub. It recently began carrying several programs about Missouri football, and management would like to eventually air Cardinals and/or Blues games.

St. Louis University is affected by the development, although the schedule of its games that will be shown on Matrix has not yet been announced.

Although Matrix has even more cable/satellite distribution problems than does Bally Sports Midwest — the only such operation carrying Matrix is Spectrum/Charter, on Channel 182 — unlike BSM it is also available over-the-air (on Channel 32).

The deal covers stations in 22 markets Gray is in across Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky, Indiana, Iowa and Tennessee and also some third-party outlets outside Gray’s coverage area.

“In the ever-changing landscape of live-event production and distribution, the Missouri Valley Conference remains committed to navigating the best path to reach college basketball fans, and this partnership with Gray does just that,” MVC commissioner Jeff Jackson said in a statement.

I hope the games will be on ESPN+. If they're not on Bally Sports MW or ESPN+, the many out of the region out of towners like us might be in the dark.  I hope not.

Dan Caesar's article does say the MVC has deals with ESPN, et al.  So hopefully the ESPN+ part will continue.

We have watched the SLU home games on Bally Sports Midwest via DirecTV, have ESPN+ for some road games.  We've been spoiled, fortunate.  I watch SLU home soccer games and some road games on ESPN+.

This may not apply to most of you but for those who were issued this coverage it may make it a lot easier to watch Bills games for free on TV. Spectrum sent me an email telling me I was going to receive Disney+ and Paramount Essentials free  of charge. I had to apply directly as a client of Spectrum TV and sign in as a principal account holder with Spectrum TV to get to receive the Disney and Paramount coverages but it works, and  the charges are taken care of by Spectrum. Disney+ has a lot of sports coverage that I did not have before including ESPN+. Those of you paying for ESPN+ and using Spectrum TV may be able to drop the payments and transfer the charges to Spectrum. You might want to check this out,  it may save you some money if you are covered by this Spectrum coverage.

I just clicked on the link above and it appears that part about the Billikens has been removed. Also, the paragraph headline doesnt say Billikens Move to Matrix but MVC Moves to Matrix.

That's even more confusing.

I think someone got confused when they wrote this initially, this looks like it only applies to the MVC

Agreed. The simple explanation is that Dan Caesar thought the Billikens were in the MVC, nobody caught it when it was published and someone figured it out at some point and edited it. Good old Post Dispatch.

I believe he assumed since the Billikens also host games on Bally's that they would be leaving the network as well.  Not sure where our games will be aired.

We need a Billikens live pregame and postgame like the cards and blues!!

I remember on Saturday nights they used to do a full post-game show from Charlie Spoon's restaurant in Union Station.  I think one time Bob Huggins came by after a game.  That was fun.

I was living in Ohio, but at night we could pick up KMOX. I listened a few times to the Spoon show. It really should have been called Spoonball on Cards Baseball. He talked more about the Cards than he did the Bills. But no coach ever put more asses in the seats than Charlie. Losing him was Biondi’s biggest faux pas and, with the exception of Rick’s tenure, cost the program its best shot at being in the Beast.
