Sounds like Coach Ford is to pick his poison.   Go with the horses who brought out team back into contention (Perkins and Weaver) though gassed or give more chances to Bell and Jacobs (who struggled earlier) and knock the rust of KC and hope they come in a beat Davidson at home.  I know which path I would have chosen.

KC didn't even suit up. Wellmer 2.0.

I know, but not seeing any time or very little after that doesn't help in his development. Rammer told us before the game he's been amazed at his development. As we all are.

Hard to say.   Maybe another stint was deserving.   At the same time, it wasn't just the existence of 3 turnovers, it was the matchup and experience factor.

One little thing I still don't understand: how does Hightower play as much as Weaver in the Dayton game? The fact he gets in during the Dayton game when most everyone on the team is playing well and doesn't when half the team is asleep vs Davidson doesn't really add up for me.

Hightower is a game manager.  He can hold it down when someone needs a blow in a tight game.  He's not someone you want in there when we're playing catchup.

True.  And he is quick, has long arms and can give you a solid defensive stand or two.  Rammer and Earl have commented repeatedly on his attributes.

Haha “game manager” that’s just a nice way of saying he can’t do anything offensively and is ok defensively.

I’m not saying he should’ve been in there against Davidson, but we sure as hell could’ve used Weaver against Dayton.

Good point again, that is probably how the coach looked at it I did not think about it that way.

It was so frustrating losing to those guys after what the team has done at Richmond and against Dayton.

Happy Friday

We use terms like that for most all our guys. Pass first point guard, defensive specialist, rebounder...

I’m not sure I agree with this, but I would guess the coaches thought Hightower was a better matchup against Dayton big guards / wings.

That description fits 0 of our players though...Hightower has a career 0 Rebounds and 0 Steals and has committed fouls at the highest rate of anyone on the team (small sample size)

Are you saying a "game manager" is just someone who is 1 of: pass first point guard, defensive specialist, rebounder? Then yes, pretty much everyone in the NCAA is a game manager except 3 point specialists haha. I assumed you meant they have to be all 3 to be a game-manager.

Either way, we were originally talking about Hightower. He is not a game-manager. He's played 24 min and has 4 fouls, 3 assists, 0 stl, 0 reb, 0 blocks, 1 pt and 1-4 from FT line.

But, isn't that basically true of all teams?

No. Not from the top half teams in our conference at least

and I understand this wouldnt be an issue without the injuries. What im saying by all of this is we will continue to struggle until someone steps up, and I just dont see anyone on the bench doing so in the way we need.

I keep picking on jacobs, because its obvious he has it in him to be who we need but just wont let go.  Our top four have separated themselves so much from the rest of the team

I have been a strong Jacobs supporter since the first night he showed up at a Billikens game, and I think he committed shortly after that.  But I am getting very down on him at this point as he fails, with just a few exceptions, to play with any intensity.  I can't figure out if it's lack of confidence or what.  What I do see is a player who has lots more to offer to the team's success than he is giving.  Someone needs to stick a firecracker under him or if that's not the solution, see if sitting him for a few games might produce the desired result.  In the UD game I think he took three shots, 2 dunks and a 10 ft floater and appeared to have little interest into becoming more of an offensive presence. That has to change, and we need it to change now.

Who do you take in a close game?  Hightower or Peyton Jacks?  Peyton Jacks for me.  Moxie coming out his fuoking ears.

Jacobs has made the biggest jump from a freshman to a sophomore that I can recall any Billiken making in the past 25 years.  That's quite an accomplishment.

Just like Hargrove is learning to play defense on this level, Jacobs is learning how to play halfcourt offense.  His comfort zone is clearly in the open court. In the halfcourt, he can be mechanical at times.  Look forward to his continued evolution over the next 2 1/2 years.

Kind of crazy that we saw more of Hankton last year than Jacobs. Jacobs has taken a major step forward. He’s gone from essentially not playing to being a starter and major role player. He’ll have another year of growing before he’s asked to do a lot his senior year.
