Patrick Baldwin from Hamilton is considered arguably the best player from his class. Highland Shootout update: Milwaukee Sussex Hamilton’s Patrick Baldwin Jr was offered by Kentucky yesterday. In the fall it's 99% high school guys. All it takes is a good weekend in AAU and an unranked big has his pick of high mid-major programs. Follow that with another good weekend and he's choosing from high major offers.

He's now in Chicago playing for a team on 3yrs probation. And still we don't know his reason for bolting. It wasn't like he wasn't getting minutes. Some of these bigs, and others, will get upset over something, decide they made the wrong choice, and become available on the transfer market down the road. Pistol
Jamal Mashburn, Jr. - PG, 6-2, 180 - Miami, FL (Brewster Academy, NH) - AAU: PSA Cardinals (Nike EYBL) - Twitter: @its_jaymashjr Offers: Saint Louis, Dayton, Xavier, Georgetown, Virginia, Wake Forest, Florida State, Miami, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Illinois, Minnesota, Florida, California, Connecticut, Penn, Yale, Brown. Interest: Butler, Providence, St. John's, St. Joe's, North Carolina State, Clemson, Auburn, Georgia, Harvard, Georgia State, Louisiana-Monroe. Latest News: Mashburn received an offer from SLU. (8/3/19) Scouting Report: Mashburn is a hard working combo guard with an excellent shot from deep. He is more of a scorer than a distributor at this point but is sharpening his lead guard skills. He's great at creating space for himself. He doesn't have great length but is very strong for his position. He scores on all three levels and finishes through contact. He transferred from Gulliver Prep in FL to Brewster Academy in NH between his sophomore and junior years. His father is former NBA player Jamal Mashburn, who played alongside Travis Ford at Kentucky. -His height listing here is probably generous, and he's not very long, either. He's a solid player, though. He's had a strong relationship with Minnesota for a long time because of the Pitino connection. It'll be interesting if Ford can work the same connection. He's a high-academic kid and apparently his post-basketball goals are to run the family businesses (apparently Mashburn has done quite well for himself since retiring, and is showing Jr. the ropes), so he talks about the Ivies a lot. Everything you say is true - but there are also more available spots in the Fall. And just as important, the head coaches at the better programs seem to use more self restraint so as to not "reach" as much for a player in the Fall. Most of the "reach" picks - especially on bigs - seem to be more in the Spring when the better schools are more willing to offer a questionable kid rather than leave the scholarship unused. Also, these borderline/questionable kids often cannot believe their good fortune, credit themselves for not settling with the mid major program in the Fall and then jump at the offers from the better programs -- only to then end up sitting the bench at these better programs. We have sure seen this over the years. 3star_recruit and Old guy like this
SLU_Nick
High Major offers to Mashburn. I’m way in. I know I’m supposed to not trust recruiting stars, go see the kids play etc, but I still pine for us to land kids who have offers from Oh St, UVA and blue bloods. Glad we are on him. Fletcher’s interest while always strong, increased this Spring and Summer with high profile schools.

Being on someone’s radar and aggressively seeking a commitment are two different things. I didn’t say that he wasn’t on their radar prior to Spring and Summer. What I did say is that Kentucky’s recruiting effort towards him changed during this more recent time period, yes.
