Not a good sign for what?

I’m guessing we’ll only see 5 or 6 teams make the list. In the past we usually get 9-10. The weakness of the A10 is not good. But I’ll defer to Taj Mahal 79 to get his take on how the conference looks for 24-25.

The conference is currently a huge unknown.

Davidson lost everyone. Outside of Connor Kochera and Bobby Durkin, they have little.

Dayton lost Holmes, Brea and Elvis.  That means the inside game AND the outside game are gone.  Smith and Cheeks are not volume scorers.  Zed Key will be huge as he tries to replace Holmes.  Posh Alexander's role will be key.

Duquesne lost a lot but returns Rozier, Barre, Dixon ad DiMichele.  But the outside firepower is gone.

Fordham lost a lot.  Ditto La Salle, Mason and Geedubya.  The Johnson injury hurts loads in Foggy Bottom.

I'd say Loyola id the team to beat right now.

Richmond, Rhodey and the Bonnies are starting over.

The Joeys have three guards but no interior.  Umass is likely disinterested.  And VCU is VCU and should never be discounted.

We have Schertz and a lot of unknowns although the roster composition looks really good.

I can see us, Loyola, Dayton, VCU and the Joeys making this list.

The A10 was a one bid league last year ..... wherein the NCAA had to accept the autoqualifier and then do a hand-me-down to Dayton.  If it were reversed, and Dayton won the autodbid, do you think Duquesne woudl have been offered a bid?  I most definitely doubt it.

C'mon last year was a down year for the conference, we still had 10 teams finish in the top 130 in kenpom. There will be minimum of 9 teams on this dumb list.

The conference will be stronger than last year. Problem is we have 9 teams in the 80-120 range. We just need a couple to leap a few spots. SLU is already poised to do that.

I’m confused, Torch. Ten A10 teams in KenPom’s top 30? Isn’t KenPom on par with rankings like ESPN, Sagarin, etc? If you’re right the rest of their top 30 would leave only 20 spots for P6 teams and others. Sorry, I find that hard to believe.

I missed the one.  A10 had 10 teams in the top 130.

I'm not debating anyone over this Top 144 stuff.  Not worth it.  I am not writing it but if someone wants to put teams like Richmond and Fordham in there, that's their perogative.  I don't see it right now ....the rosters are way too unsettled.

UMass comes in hot at 118 on the top 144. First A10 squad to make the list.

...and finishing 8th in the A10.  Rothstein has them at 6th in the A10 and TRank has them 9th.   Last season the A10 had 9 teams with NET's of better than 100.

And waiting in the wings the College of Charleston when UMass bolts.

I was curious and pulled up the 144 ratings from last season. Six teams were on the list with St Joe at 126 the first A10 team listed.
This season will have 8 on the list with UMass at 118 starting the rundown.
Progress?

Right direction. I’d like to see Taj Mahal 79’s prediction on the next 7 in order.

Agreed. I'm still trying to figure out why we had to have George Mason. And there is obviously some other dead weight but they've been in longer than SLU.

For me the issue isn't the number of teams in the A10.  Fourteen or 15 teams, whatever.  My issue is with playing 18 conference games.  I'm for playing two less, making a 16 game league schedule and adding two OOC games.  You can decide common A10 opponents with either a 16 game schedule.

Of course the issue is finding two more OOC opponents that don't turn out to be buy games, or otherwise resume killers.  With the Power conferences either at or going to 20 games, we can't look at them to fill the gap.  Perhaps aligning with the Mountain West, American, MVC, or WCC for Challenges could solve some of the scheduling issue.

I certainly don't want the A10 to go to a 20 game conference schedule.  (But would a 20 game schedule stop the Chicago State and Jackson State buy games?)  Nothing is easy.

BTW, Charleston's last three NET's were 97, 51 and 144.  Seems like they would be a decent add.

George Mason is the perfect example of why the A10 should not be adding whatever team east of the Mississippi has been hot for a few years.  I'd wait until CofC has some sustained success and can prove that they can hold onto a coach before extending an invitation.

You could say the same for us. I agree to cut back on teams by cutting the underachiever. Since, I don’t think we’re getting a Beast invite any time soon, my ideal conf in a perfect world would be to start anew and stock it with the best mids nationwide.
