Not saying I disagree but Rick Barnes is about done, auburn is tbd without Bruce and Cal is also 65. Those three will be out soon.
slu72
Billikens come in chilly at 59, 3rd in A10, and NIT bound. I thought we’d be in the 50-40 range. But this list has never been a good predictor save for the top 20 or so. We shall see soon enough. 3rd gets us a bye in DC which is good. Going to be interesting to see where UD and VCU place. 73Billiken
With a ranking of 59, there is at least some degree of relevance. The season can't start soon enough. BLIKNS likes this
Aquinas
It's a reasonable projection with so many new players. The truth is that there isn't a whole lot of difference between a 30 ranking and 59. I looked back at a Sagarin listing and it is basically one 3 point basket per game. slu72 and billiken_roy like this
slu72
I wasn’t surprised by this ranking, but I figured we’d rank higher than UD since Holmes has departed.
wgstl
So between T-rank, this, and the almanac we have an average ranking of 64th
CenHudDude
Will the board consider a berth in the NIT as as a step in the right direction, or a total failure?

willie
Failure. Dance or bust. With Swope and Jimmer as seniors we need to dance. billiken_roy, CenHudDude, MusicCityBilliken and 5 others like this
Wendelprof
So long as there is improvement in the program, it will be a good year. We need to get the program moving in the right direction again. It has plenty of preseason momentum. Let's just enjoy the ride and support the new coach and players. Best to judge the season after it is over. cgeldmacher likes this

slu72
For a rebuilding program like the Bills the NIT, while not a fan favorite, is good training for next season. BLIKNS likes this
Dr Bird
NCAA or bust for me. I bet Coach Schertz would say the same. billiken_roy, SLU_Lax, HoosierPal and 2 others like this
Taj79
@slu72: not when you are losing Jimerson, Swope and Johnson. That could be 60% of your starters. MusicCityBilliken likes this

Agree, with Avila, Swope and Jimmerson on the floor together, this is no rebuilding year. They got to produce this season.
3star_recruit
I thought the whole point of Coach Schertz was to bring in a coach that is fundamentally sound, is committed to a style of play and constructs his rosters accordingly. I thought it was the way he does business that would be the bedrock of our success, not whether there are three seniors on the roster in any given year. almaman likes this

I agree with what you are saying but you are missing the point of the original question. Would you be satisfied with the NIT? For this year the answer is no. Taj79
The question also centered on if playing extra games would benefit the team the following year. My answer is no, not with three seniors. And with the constant changeover and turmoil with NIL and the portal, who knows what you've got until you've got it.
3star_recruit
CenHudDude asked if an NIT berth would be a step in the right direction. Sure, this team was horrible last season. An NIT berth would mean we've experienced one of the greatest turnarounds in Billiken history. My assumption is that the overall skill level of Coach Schertz's team 2 years from now will be higher than it is now. That's been the track record everywhere he's been. brianstl likes this
Taj79
I was responding to slu72's comment on an NIT bid being training for next season. As for CenHudDude's question ..... I don't see how such a record and'/or bid would NOT be a step in the right direction but I want more.
Lord Elrond
We ended last season ranked #197 in NET. It’s hard not to see where a jump in over 100 places in NET, which is what a NIT bid would mean, is not an improvement.
billiken_roy
Right now it seems to me with the NiL every year every team will be starting over. Building a team seems like the past to me MusicCityBilliken likes this
