johnbj14
The Cal issue is pretty fresh. Let the dust settle before pointing fingers. In the meantime, Cal isn't going to let Martin go and no one's going to be interviewing him. This appears to have all been the responsibility of one bad assistant coach. My guess is that there won't be penalties beyond him and Martin will be fine. Also, instead of blaming students, women's groups, "PC" police - how about acknowledging the creep who harrassed a reporter and tried to get laid in exchange for information? There's no one to blame but him. My point wasn't to blame students, what the man did was wrong. My point was more so that if SLU went ahead and hired Martin, there would be an outrage from many groups on SLU's campus based on his association with a coach who did that. Not trying to downplay the severity of the situation in any way.

3Bill
I would like them to look at billy Gillespie. Was hottest coach in the country at one point. Seems to have straightened things out and is back to coaching at a juco. Reminds me of majerus in some ways.

Season ticket holders, still very connected. Their stories about Gillispie are horrifying. He sounds like a terrible person in every regard, and he was a complete trainwreck at UK, both as a coach and in his personal life. Simply put, I'd rather rehire Crews than even interview Billy Gillispie.
JMM28
i mean..... its really not that big of a deal in my mind. The SEC = Kentucky Wrong on all accounts. Get your mind right.
3Bill
People at Utah said the same thing about majerus. I take that with a grain of salt. The guy wins. Schasz
A Vandy SB Nation piece on the Stallings rumor, mentions Capel, Grant, Moser, and Spoonhour as other rumored names.. http://buzztap.com/-6J1T2I Chris Beard stock trending up From that article Stallings is the only name that floats my boat. The problem with Grant he is an assistant for OKC and if they have a long playoff run he may not be available until June. SLU needs someone to begin recruiting ASAP. Also, people from Utah are mostly Mormon - not the same standards as normal society. I would probably be banned from the state by now if I ever lived there for any extended period of time. NextYearBill
Wrong on all accounts. Get your mind right. What accounts? Kentucky owns the SEC now and forever? To poach a coach from that conference is not that extreme in my mind

Not sure why Grant would be necessarily unavailable until the NBA playoffs are over.
cheeseman
Majerus also wasn't fired twice I don't think this is true. He resigned at Utah. I am not sure what the circumstances were at Marquette - I thought they just both mutually agreed to separate.
willie
When was the last time an A10 team hired a coach from the SEC that had just been in the tournament?Joe B hall and Bob Polk for at least half of your statement.

Billiken Law
It's all about making the tournament and getting the paid units. SLU is getting paid through 2020 for the units earned in 2014. I would bet the AD is getting over $5 mil per year for the 3 tourney runs. If we don't make it back in the next few years and that money dries up, budgets are going to hurt. That is why this is a key hire. SLU only gets a portion of that, the bulk is distributed amongst the conference members. That's why important for A10 teams to get some wins this year and why so many mid majors got screwed on selection Sunday
Billiken Law
why would he leave MU, where he is an assistant, to become an assistant at SLU? Not being combative - am I missing something? He's been contacted about the HC job. That's not a guy I'd want. Not ready. Was saying that if he did come to SLU it would be as an assistant, not head coach. That's why important for A10 teams to get some wins this year and why so many mid majors got screwed on selection Sunday The A10 gives 75% of the unit credit to the school that earned it. The A10 also has a decent chunk that gets distributed to all schools because X, Butler, and Temple left some units behind.
doowop
who the hell cares about being a sweet 16 program? what does that even mean? Just win games, make tournament. That's all you can do. We are not Duke, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisville, Xavier, WSU, Gonzage, Butler. Just come in top 3 in conference consistently. Make the tournament regularly. Win games in the tournament. Thats all you can ask for. We can ask for more than that. We should not be SETTLERS!
doowop
I'm not saying that Stallings is the perfect candidate, but let's not act like he's hot garbage. He has 7 NCAA Tournament trips at a school not exactly playing on a level playing field with the rest of its conference. He's won 60% of his games at Vandy, which is a better winning percentage than probably any SLU coach in at least 40-50 years. Just out of curiosity, who do you want SLU to hire? Martin. doowop
We've never been to the sweet 16, let's not all of a sudden act like we're better than the sweet 16. Don't you want a coach who can take SLU farther than the Sweet Sixteen? I'm not acting like SLU is better. But why not shoot higher? In three to four years I would like to see SLU go at least as far as the Elite Eight. They have the opportunity to hire a top flight coach.
