Wasn't sure if this was talked about before but looks like SLU is looking to close another part of Laclede by the Campus.

OK, so, far be it from me to imply that any of my former colleagues jumped to a conclusion, but it appears that SLU has only applied to be able to close the street on move-in days and other times when it would improve safety. No permanent closures planned.

Good. I was not a fan of the idea of permanently closing Laclede.

And the rumored City Target on the south side of Forest Parkway may also be closer to fruition.

I thought the City Target was rumored to be on the NW corner of the intersection between IKEA and the Gerhart block?

But the Midtown Station development just keeps getting smaller and smaller.

Midtown Station as it is currently presented would be a missed opportunity. Best case scenario is to assemble the entire section stretching from Spring over to Vandeventer and redevelop under a much larger master plan. The city should also consider relocating the fire station. The value of that corner parcel is now way too high to leave as tax-exempt property.

Why wouldn't they build a parking deck instead of all the surface parking between IKEA and this development?

They're too expensive and would only occur if the developer thinks there is such strong demand that they need to build the retail at a much higher density. Given Pace's proposal, it doesn't appear that developers are as bullish on the area for retail development as we might hope, though I've heard that another local developer has a "more exciting" plan for the Foundry site.

For what it's worth, some of Ikea's parking is slated for additional Cortex district development, specifically a hotel.

Maybe at one time, but I can only remember it being part of Midtown Station/blue sky plans for the east side of Vandeventer.

It looks like they'd build a wall, but I don't think leaving Federal Mogul intact would do Midtown Station any favors. And as you noted, it was supposed to be much, much bigger.

Hey, SShoe, maybe SLU should take most of the stuff east of Spring and build something that would house a PE program. ;)

Any development that allows SLU to get more JUCOs is fine with me

  • 2 weeks later...

A buddy is at Humps right now and John told him they are selling the bar to SLU, for dorms or something? Someone please dispell this rumor immediately

I don't think its for dorms. But I have heard that they are selling the bar. A combination of John's health and a lack of new customers. I think they are looking to sell to someone who will maintain the bar though.
