  1. I know he was here not too long ago but I wouldn't mind a visit from the TheOne right now.

  2. I can't imagine many organizations less deserving of non-profit status than NIL collectives. There is zero justification for allowing people to throw money in tax-free. Even if they set up a "charitable arm" it's going to amount to a fraction of the point of the thing, which is to attract recruits and pay players. This seems like easy pickings for any politician of either party who wants a tax-related talking point.

  3. Yuri could work himself into the cucumber market and get in cahoots with the industry elites to push Thatch out of the pickle game by crippling the industry's supply chain. Straight to the source, a real cut throat move. Would probably cause some real ripples in the locker room.

  5. Actually it has very little impact in the decision if the donor makes a large amount of taxable income. Beyond a certain level of taxable income, wealthy taxpayers are allowed only a small fraction of all of charity donation deductions in their tax return. The NIL donors we have been talking about are likely to have significant amounts of income, even if they are not billionaires. Their decision to give the money away has very little to do with the charity status of the recipient, or whether the donation is deductible or not. The wealthy donors we are talking about pay taxes on most if not all of their charitable donations whether they are going to the Church, or Goodwill, or anywhere else.

  6. Turnbull isn't enrolled in school yet. The transfer rules don't apply to him. He was released from his original letter of intent. If he has signed another letter of intent, he would need another release if he now regrets his decision. If he has not signed a new letter of intent, he free at any moment to commit to another program.

  7. There will be some pretty decent players still looking for a home months from now. We're still in Stage 1 of the matchmaking process. There are players in the draft that teams won't know the status of until June 1, the last day they can withdraw and maintain their eligibility.

  8. In Travis I trust, but the longer it goes the pickings get smaller. According to the post above Turnbull is allowed to apply for a waiver. Bright lights, big name opponents, and national TV wouldn't seem all that attractive from the end of the bench. Questions. Crespin and Bradford still available? I think St. Mary's will appeal to Crespin; seaside campus, nice weather, nice tradition with foreign players. I'm not holding out too much hope.

  9. There are what, probably over 1000 players left over in the portal that haven't signed yet. And how many decent HS players have been left out due to this extra covid year? Every year Ford has a somewhat late signee or two. I'm looking at June 1 as the first benchmark for reviewing not only the Bills squad but all other A10 squads. June 1 is the day NCAA players have to withdraw their names from the NBA draft in order to remain eligible. Burton, Collins, Oduro are three that come to mind who are in the NBA evaluation program and would have significant impact on the A10.

  10. well the fact spring semester is almost over and we have zero depth in place for our bigs is definitely approaching panic imo. i guess we just hold our breath. oh boy. never a dull moment being a billiken fan.

  12. Yeah I made that change in my original post. I forgot Yuri was the 4th. I'm going to hold you to that 7-10 days, Ace!

  13. I think we have 3 open spots, correct? We need one big who will play, a back-up point guard and a 3rd developmental big who probably won't play much. There are still a lot of players floating around out there. Give it another week-10 days before you start to worry.

  15. I guess since the portal has closed he's stuck at Butler for the upcoming season, correct? Or could he still try and wiggle out because of the coaching change? As far as our team is concerned, can someone PM me to let me know when I should start getting concerned that we have 3 open spots, only 1 big man, no imminent signs of signing anyone (which doesn't really mean much), and the few players we thought we had a realistic shot at landing moved on to other schools. Thank you kindly.

  16. Yes, he is one of the six 6'8" players I counted. The BE is tough on power players. It will be an uphill journey for Conner. I wish him well, but his seat will likely be on the bench.

  17. You’re right, great article, and that was a great line. So now, the NCAA, whose lax enforcement abilities apparently only kept all this stuff hidden, is going to fix this? Ought to be amusing to watch, kind of like watching someone trying to shove the toothpaste back into the tube while riding a roller coaster…

  18. With our depth it's safe to say that our freshman won't be getting many minutes, if any, unless they majorly surprise us this year.

  19. First Ford has to get Hasse on campus then I can start hoping. I have already been disappointed with Turnbull and Carr and wish Crespin would have committed during his 2 day visit so I am tempering my enthusiasm for once as a Billiken fan.

  24. You guys are the biggest snowflakes. Relax. He said a lot of stuff that sounded like Rich, his name's Rich, I guessed it was Rich. I even said "I think" not "It's definitely". It was a guess and Rich said I was wrong, so I retracted it. Rich said he was logging back out, I moved on. There's nothing more to discuss. You're in the habit of correcting yourself when you make a mistake, right?

  25. Just trying to speak your language. I don't speak that way to the grown ups around here. You're obsessed with me. It's a nice boost to my ego. If we took out your replies to me, you wouldn't have many posts here anymore.

  28. What I am trying to say is that I hope Yuri concentrates on playing the best he can and in harmonizing with the team. I hope he does not try to run the team, or become rich by selling stuff, including pickles.
