  1. This would be called the detooling process.

  2. Ted Mimlitz! lol Played for SPUMAC in 84, SLU in 85. I look forward to the day when I am the only one on this board who remembers Chris Sloan and can talk about how great it was when he dunked on Channing Frye. The year will be...2060?

  3. Watson didn't receive his ranking from his high school achievements. He got it from AAU. Gordon, Ramey, Watson were all on TeamRamey and were ranked in 8th grade. Mizzou just wasn't a good fit for Torrance

  4. Relegated makes it sound like that was a coaching staff decision, his complete lack of ball skills is why he was relegated to being a stand still shooter. I know folks who watched him in high school had some concerns with how his game would translate to the high major level (apparently scored a lot of his points at the rim playing as more of a 6'4 bully at the Class 3 level) and those concerns played out. He is so inept with the ball that his only role at the high major level was to become a lights out 3 point shooter. He just can't be a volume scorer at that level.

  5. As you say, this is one game. So, what you can take of it is just that, one game. No more no less. You can’t assume how they played today is how they play every or most games. I can say having watched SLU play a lot, is that much of their game is an attacking, short, frequent, interior combination passing, possession game, with pace. Much of their build up runs wide through the midfield with Friedrich and Larson via Halverson, Miller, or Stram etc.. In a Conference Tourney Semifinal, getting an early goal was a priority. In the first half, Dayton rarely had the ball past midfield. Thus much of it was SLU trying to get a first goal, and additional tallies working with half of a field. Dayton created more pressure after half time for a brief but unsustainable period. SLU defends well, and they have a lot of ball winners. SLU has a lot of on the ball skill, can pass well, space well, see the field well. They are very dangerous on set pieces and in the open field in the final 3rd. Different games have different flows and circumstances. Size, speed, more on the ball skill, are a few things SLU has needed to get over the hump against some of the better power 5 teams. The expectation is not only for SLU to be in the NCAA’s, but to win at least one or two this year while there depending on the matchups. We are at the survive and advance portion of the season.

  6. If they end up at SLU and lead us to the NCAAs.... no longer a tool

  8. A short little episode to take in with your morning coffee and get ready for the Men's and Women's A10 Soccer Tournament. We'll most likely record an episode after the men's and women's a10 tournaments, would be nice if they could both grab an NCAA Tournament bid so we have more to talk about. After that we'll probably settle in to once every 2 weeks release schedule during the offseason and focus on bringing you all interviews. Speaking of interviews, we recorded an awesome interview with the former head of SLU Sports Medicine Anthony Breitbach, so be on the look out for that at some point next week(we could push the release another week pending the NCAA Soccer tournaments so that we can keep a steady stream of content.

  9. Ouch... What’s the bigger falloff OSU->UM-Columbia or UM-Columbia->Elon? Difficult to decide.

  11. That's Katie Shields' 100th win. SLU plays the UMass-Davidson winner Saturday afternoon. There's a lot of talent on this team. They're fun to watch.

  13. yes, as a player he was a tool. he was never a billiken player before or after his mi$$ouri mistake. i like to think that bad choice in life did make him a stronger person that has assisted in his coaching success, however never going far in the ncaa might be a result of his mi$$ouri toolness as a player.

  14. He wasnt at first. Watson was driving the ball a lot early on, but when he wasn't finishing he lost a ton of confidence and never got it back. Going into mid second year any time we would drive, he would almost flinch or stay clear of contact. After that he just stayed out and shot 3's. Watson was a case of a player doing what he wanted against bad competition in HS.

  15. You can be accurately graded in high school but a bad college fit will make you look like a much worse player. There's a reason that Isabel looked like a bum at Mizzou and a superstar at Drexel. He's a ball dominant player and anything else wasn't going to work. Watson is a volume scorer who was relegated to spot up shooter duties at Mizzou. Bad fit.

  21. I like Linssen's game and I think his smart movement without the ball and screens can compliment a more perimeter focused team. So maybe HS is the place to look for a PF to develop behind our current crop. In a pinch we have big enough Guards and Wings to go with 4 G/Wing line up.

  22. Also, neither Okoro or Linssen are suited to play next to each other (or another big like Bell or French). SLU has had two players in recent memory who are big enough and skilled enough to play as a “power forward” in modern basketball: Cody Ellis and Carteare Gordon. These types of players are so difficult to come by. That’s why I think it’s a real stretch that we could find one in the portal. It’s a safer pick to have Perkins play there or hope Lorentsson grows into that role.
