SETTING THE SCENE

  • No. 5 seed Saint Louis opens play in the 2025 Atlantic 10 Conference Men's Basketball Championship on Thursday, facing No. 12 Davidson at Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C. Game time is set for 2 p.m. Eastern, 1 p.m. Central.
  • The winner advances to face No. 4 Loyola Chicago on Friday afternoon at 2 p.m. (ET)/1 p.m. (CT).

FOLLOWING THE ACTION

  • Thursday's game will be televised on USA Network. Jac Collinsworth and Dr. John Giannini have the call. 
  • KMOX 1120 AM is the home for SLU men's basketball on the radio. Billiken Hall of Famers and longtime SLU men's basketball radio partners Bob Ramsey and Earl Austin Jr. will the call the action for all SLU games, both at home and on the road. Ramsey is in his 39th season calling SLU games, while Austin is in year No. 34. 

NEWS & NOTES

  • Saint Louis heads to Washington, D.C., and Capital One Arena as the No. 5 seed for the 2025 Atlantic 10 Conference Men's Basketball Championship. 
  • SLU has won four of its last five games.
  • The Billikens have claimed two A-10 Championship titles – in 2013 as the No. 1 seed in Brooklyn, N.Y., at the Barclays Center, and again in Brooklyn in 2019 as the No. 6 seed.
  • In all, Saint Louis has won three conference tournament titles – the 2000 Conference USA Championship in addition to the 2013 and 2019 A-10 Championships. SLU owns a 19-16 all-time record in A-10 Championship tilts.
  • This is the third time the A-10 Championship is being held at Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C. The Billikens are 3-2 all-time in the building.
  • Three Billikens earned Atlantic 10 Conference honors, which were announced yesterday. Gibson Jimerson was named first-team All-Conference and was voted to the All-Academic team; Robbie Avila landed on the A-10 second team; and Isaiah Swope was named third-team All-Conference.
  • Gibson Jimerson leads the Billikens with 18.3 ppg and has been on a tear as of late, averaging 30.3 ppg over the three games in March. He enters the A-10 tourney needing one more 3-pointer to break the SLU single-season record of 103 (Erwin Claggett, 1994-95).
  • Robbie Avila is second on the Billikens in scoring (17.4 ppg), rebounding (6.8 rpg) and assists (4.0 apg). He leads all centers in Division I in assists (4.0) and 3s made per game (1.8).
  • Isaiah Swope leads the Bills and is fourth in the A-10 with 4.4 assists per game. He also averages 16.4 ppg and came up clutch with two late 3-pointers to send the Duquesne game into overtime, with SLU eventually pulling out the thrilling win.
  • The Billikens are the only program in NCAA Division I with three players averaging 16.3 ppg or better.
  • Saint Louis has already broken the school record for 3-pointers made in a season (305). 
  • Head coach Josh Schertz is in his first season at SLU. His .775 winning percentage ranks No. 8 among active coaches across all three NCAA divisions.

ABOUT THE WILDCATS

  • Davidson opened A-10 Championship play on Wednesday, defeating No. 13 Richmond 69-65 in a game that came down to the wire.
  • Reed Bailey led the Wildcats with 25 points on 10-of-19 shooting. Connor Kochera added 22 points and dished out five assists. 
  • Reed Bailey was named first-team All-Conference after leading the league in scoring with 18.9 ppg.
  • Connor Kochera entered the A-10 Championship averaging 14.3 ppg, while Bobby Durkin scores 14.0 ppg. Durkin is one of the top 3-point shooters in the conference, converting at a 36.6 percent clip with more than 90 made 3s.
  • Davidson entered the Championship leading the league and ranking in the top 20 nationally in assist/turnover ratio (1.55). The Wildcats do not turn the ball over often, as they lead the league and rank 19th in the NCAA in fewest turnovers per game (9.6).

SERIES HISTORY

  • Davidson leads the all-time series 9-5.
  • Earlier this season at Belk Arena in Davidson, N.C., the Billikens rallied to defeat the Wildcats 57-56. Saint Louis rallied from 13 points down with 6:31 remaining in the second half to post the win. Isaiah Swope led the Billikens with 23 points, which included a 6-of-10 performance from 3-point range. Robbie Avila scored 19 points (17 in the second half), including the game-winning layup with 4.3 seconds remaining.
  • This will be the fourth time SLU and Davidson are meeting in the A-10 Championship. The Wildcats are 2-1 vs. the Billikens in tournament play.

Do they? My job is way less stressful than that 😂 nah, I have some mild gum recession and they can tell it's because I grind my teeth in my sleep, so they recommended a custom nightguard. I think once I get used to wearing it, sleep will come easier, but I was so worried about it falling off and gagging on it in my sleep.

Watch the TOs and rebound. The rest will be taken care of. I would like to see Kobe be more involved in the offense. He's kind of gone missing in recent games. We're gping to need more than the big 3 if we're to advance.

The key is to come out ready to play. Most teams aren't used to playing this early. Davidson/Richmond was a rock fight. If the score is 7-8 at the 12 minute timeout, it's a bad sign. Hit them hard, take care of the ball, and get up early. Easier said than done. Whatever advantage we have over a team that played yesterday, Loyola will have tomorrow.
