Don’t let the low efficiency numbers fool you too much - he took a LOT of contested threes and led the nation in 3 point field goal attempts. I have confidence in his ability to shoot at a high-level in the A-10 and Ford seems laser focused on bringing in another shooter. Personally, I have concerns about his defense. He has good hands but is on the smaller side and not an outstanding athlete from what I can tell. I’m not a huge fan of him playing next to Yuri for that reason. We are low on guards right now and low on shooting so if we end up bringing in Williams as a rotation guard who provides shooting off the bench it makes sense to me. If he is being recruited to play big minutes I will be disappointed. if we bring him in, i bet it's to support Perk in scoring but not to take away minutes from thatch/hargrove/yuri... probably a 20 min type guy. Clock_Tower
I still remember the radio interview of RM before he even coached a single practice when he explained his philosophy and said his two most important positions were the 1 and 4... Never heard anything similar from Ford. No problem basing your team on JGood and French but JGood is not a PG or playmaker and French never added to his game. Where would we be had we not lost the S2 guys? And he tried w Gordon and Santos and then filled in with Linssen. Not bad but not his first plan. But where are we going? How can a former PG (Ford) not have more depth at that that position? And I dont care about efficiency percentages and other stats - but Thatch will never be our scorer and is not what we had expected- our defensive specialist - and bc of his serious and unexpected illnesses likely may never be - another setback to Ford. Jacobs is gone but he was never the PG or answer. Are we going in a new direction with Lorentsson maybe playing the 4 and stretching defenses? And Strickland playing the wing - JGood’s spot - sounds like a great kid and athlete but I doubt he dribbles much. So we will return Strickland, Fred, Hargrove and Gibson who can’t or dont dribble much and only Jimerson who can really shoot it? Too many guys who are elite at A but deficient at B. Hard to win game in and game out over a long season with team‘s who can and will scout us and exploit our weaknesses.

Isabell was a multidimensional scorer who was most effective going to the basket. Williams isn't Isabell. And that's ok. We've got plenty of scholarships. NH
I think Isabell is a decent comparison in terms of size and where they’d fit defensively. The one big difference for me is that Isabell was playing next to Goodwin, who could always take the toughest guard matchup to help hide Isabell defensively. Yuri does not offer that same protection for Williams in my mind. Despite the percentages looking so-so, I do think Williams is an elite shooter based on everything I’ve seen of him. He took more contested 3s than maybe any player I can remember. If I knew he was willing to take on a Tay Weaver like role (which for all I know may be the case) I think this would be a terrific pickup to add some guard depth. brianstl
Isabell had a much more well rounded offensive game than what Williams has shown to this point.
billiken_roy
isabell, i was interested. weaver, not so much. over a 1000 players out there and relatively early in the process this is the best we can do? again, i am relying on the information you all are giving, i know nothing more about this guy.
