Recruiting - 2013

How about Onwuasor and Abell? I'm still on board with Randy O for one of the scholarships, and the other can go to one of the guard transfers. Obviously I know it doesn't work that way, just saying. It doesn't make as much sense to get two of the Abell-Jesperson-Yacoubou trio when we have a bigger need at PG moving forward and two scholarships to give.

That seems like the ideal situation right now. Onwuasor and AbellorYacoubou.

Note: COMPLETE SPECULATION

It seems to me that Crews is able to bring in two players at this point, but only had the one available spot. Unless, that is, he decided to cut loose Drew. Drew, having just redshirted, most likely had no real intention on transferring, as he would have to sit out another year and only be able to actually play 3 seasons unless he moved down to DII. However, Crews probably felt that Drew wasn't in his long term plans, and thought one of the other players was a better fit down the road. Kind of a sucky way to do it (if that is the way it went down), as it leaves Drew with very few options.

It is still hard to say which two Crews will be bringing in. Considering the depth for next season, it is quite possible that he is willing to grab two transfers. It is also kind of weird timing that Pat Ingram announced that he is transferring earlier today and then we get the announcement that Drew is gone. As Ingram's decision last year came down to SLU and Iowa, and Drew ended up being the signing that took his place, it does seem just a bit coincidental. I feel like we might get answers sooner rather than later.

We were recruiting BOTH Ingram and Drew at the same time and we could have had both of them. If I remember the timing correctly, Ingram signs with Iowa, we sign Drew and then later we sign Carter, so I always considered Carter as the guy who was Plan B to Ingram. Yes, it would be interesting if it turns out that in a sense Ingram were to take Drew's spot.

I find it REALLY hard to believe that they made a decision like this on a whim because a recruit from the past became available. In fact, I would also assume a move like this has been building up for a while. I don't think they just make fly off the handle decisions, vote at the round table and carry it out all within 24 hours.

Obi ate his hat.

I hope we get some good recruiting news soon. I was looking forward to seeing Drew play.

hahahaha, maybe if obi didn't sit around drawing pictures of dicks all day, big veiny, triumphant motherfuokers, he wouldn't have found himself in a potential hat-eating situation.

You are correct, sir. That is pretty much how it went down. Drew wasn't really the replacement for Ingram, as you stated. While Ingram signed before Drew, Drew was the first one to sign that period, not Carter. I guess I just misremembered that signing period and thought that Drew was the Plan B to Ingram.

I agree 100%. There is no way that the Ingram announcement was the impetus for this development.

You don't remember Ingram?

Jesus Christ, Box, are you even a Bills fan?

I have 9,800 posts on this board - I think it's pretty clear that I love the Buffalo Bills. I just seems strange to me that when I watch their games, I never see any of the players that people talk about here.

Bump for the last two spots:

Offers:

Hakim Saintil, PG: 5-11, 170, Roselle Catholic HS, Roselle, NJ. Offers: SLU and Fairfield. Possible offers: St. Bonaventure, Rutgers, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Cincinnati, and SMU. Prep school a possibility. Latest (5/10): Oddly enough, a new article popped up yesterday from a Cincinnati recruiting blog. She seems to be basing her information on Verbal Commits and a few other sources and doesn't add anything particularly new ("he’s made it clear that he wants to get playing time right away, so if he doesn’t think that’s a possibility at UC or any other school on his list, he could quite possibly head to prep school to gain more experience and open the door to even more options in 2014"). Also mentioned that ESPN ranked him the 12th-best player in NJ in the class of 2013. Previous: His AAU team has been playing in weekend tournaments, and playing well. He hit a clutch 3 to tie, followed by a steal and layup to win one of these tournaments a few weekends ago. He recently visited St. Bonaventure, following which he posted plenty of retweets from Bona fans. Also, a Tweet to a friend indicated that he's still uncertain whether he'll sign or go to a prep school.

Jordan Strawberry, PG: 6-1, 170, Mater Dei HS, Santa Ana, CA. Offers: SLU, UC-Riverside, and at least 2 others (UNCW likely). Claims interest from Arizona, Virginia Tech, Gonzaga, California, and Florida State. Latest (5/13): A few tweets about "leaving Cali for good in a month" and removed the "committed to _____?" out of his profile, but no word on where he's going. Previous: Visit to SLU (and dad) went very well. Since then, UNC-Wilmington has gotten in the mix and has one scholarship left to give after Addison Spruill, a shooting guard from Brevard CC, committed yesterday, 4/30. No confirmation on an offer from UNCW but it seems likely they've made one. He seems to be SLU's backup plan to Randy Onwuasor, but SLU seems like his best opportunity. This list came out on 5/1 and Strawberry's name and picture is in it. Interestingly, Onwuasor and Lancona are not mentioned. He also told a buddy on Twitter that his visit "out there" went well and he's trying to make his decision.

Randy Onwuasor, PG: 6-3, 190, Inglewood HS, Inglewood, CA. Top Choices: SLU, Miami-Ohio, and Pitt. Other offers: UC-Irvine and Cal State-Fullerton. Interest from Tennessee, Tennessee Tech, Seton Hall, Florida State, Arkansas, UNLV, Tulane, New Mexico State, and Utah. Latest (5/13): Onwuasor appears to have deactivated his Twitter account. He seemed to like retweeting all the attention from SLU and Miami fans; not sure what's going on with that. Previous: Onwuasor has visited SLU and Miami-Ohio. SLU and Miami have both made in-home visits. He said to Ben Weixlmann that his final three choices are SLU, Miami, and Pitt. He will be playing in the Nike Global Challenge in DC in July. He has been retweeting SLU fans a lot, but the last two are about Tennessee and Tennessee Tech, both of whom are suddenly in the mix. A TTU assistant apparently visited, and he now says he plans to visit Knoxville soon. No word on offers from either. What looked like a SLU-Miami race has now opened back up. It's really hard to tell if the delay and other schools getting involved are the result of SLU prioritizing other players or Onwuasor testing the waters more.

Others:

Achraf Yacoubou, SG: 6-4, 210, Villanova. Transfer eligible as junior in 2014-2015. Interested in SLU, Pitt, and Georgia Tech. Latest (5/9): He will be visiting Pitt on May 14th. According to pantherlair.com writer Matthew Steinbrink, Pitt is focused on Yacoubou, Sheldon Jeter (if he decides to transfer), and DeAndre Kane. Kane just made it official, so Pitt has one scholarship left to give. Previous: Two Tweets from sportswriters on Friday, 5/3 said that Yacoubou visited SLU and will be visiting Pitt and Georgia Tech next. UNLV and Miami are out of contention.

Remy Abell, SG: 6-4, 201, Indiana. Transfer eligible as junior in 2014-2015. Interested in SLU, Xavier, and St. Mary's. Latest (5/13): Abell had a good visit to Xavier late last week and is arriving in St. Louis today. He will visit St. Mary's next but has not wrapped up travel plans for it. Previous: If he sticks to his timeline, Abell will be making a decision later this week. Abell is a Louisville native and of the three schools on his list, only Xavier recruited him in high school. He reportedly has an offer from VCU but has not listed them as a finalist. He was also contacted by Butler coach Brad Stevens but said the program was not the right fit for him.

Paul Jesperson, SG: 6-6, 197, Virginia. Transfer eligible as junior in 2014-2015. Interest from SLU, Northern Iowa, USC, Nebraska, and Florida. Latest (5/13): Jesperson tweeted UNI, St. Louis, USC... 3 great visits, couple more left tho" on the 11th. Previous: I'd think Nebraska is definitely one of the last couple visits, and Florida may be the other. At SLU, Manning (Virginia native) and Barnett (Wisconsin native) were his hosts. Pappy's was part of the itinerary.

Brett Jolly, PF-C: 6-10, Carroll HS, Southlake, TX. Offers: Weber State. Interest from SLU, Air Force, Belmont, Bucknell, Lehigh, Furman, North Texas, Penn, Tulsa, Sam Houston State, and Wichita State. Latest (5/13): Jolly is currently stuck in a wash basin in his backyard that he's not quite able to leap out of, so he's cancelled all his remaining recruiting visits and will not be playing D-I basketball next season.

Randy O didn't deactivate his twitter he just changed his handle to underscore peanut 3

Not to starrt an argument over this but I would say we are top 5. Can you name 5 other citites that are more fanatical about sports? Chicago, Philly, NY?

You might want to add Boston and SF to the list (the Niners and most recently the Giants). But just about every city seems to have one team they really rally behind, eg Pittsburgh and the Steelers, Washington the Skins, LA the Lakers.

Saint Louis is pretty much a one trick pony for fanaticism and that love is showered on the Cards. Plus prior to major expansion, the Cards pretty much owned the whole South as far as MLB was concerned. I think the Bills, if they continue their winning ways and get in the NBE, will get a lot more interest and attention, but never compete w/ the Cards. The Rams and the Blues, most definitely and may even take some Mizzery fans that aren't alumni.

Ingram transferring was not a huge surprise to Hawkeye fans. There were just no minutes for him at Iowa. I would love to see him end up over here!

I dont know much about him but...

Im not sure I want a guy who cant crack the rotation of a team that finished with an RPI of 61.

Did you watch much Iowa basketball this year? Assuming you haven't, the Hawkeyes have a lot of talent on the team. Don't get me wrong, Ingram is a great basketball player. He got some playing time, but there are a lot of guys on the team who are better ball players. Iowa is a lot better than what the RPI says they are. Most of their losses coming right at the end of the game. They are a team that will be in the tournament next year, I can assure you.
