I just saw on the Twitterz that Pat Ingram is transferring from Iowa. He just announced that today. He was a player that SLU was very interested in a year ago. He didn't play much this year (just garbage minutes) and obviously saw the writing on the wall that he was going to be behind a number of guards for the rest of his career there. I wonder if SLU will show any interest in him a 2nd time around?

(Not much, but at least some 'recruiting' based news to discuss. Or not.)

Iowa's getting hyped up pretty big by the EasternSportsProgrammingNetwork.

He is another big guard transfer from the BCS. Fits the profile of the other guys we are recruiting. If I recall we were in his final three. When he called a press conference and pulled out the hats, I knew we were screwed.

Sure, why not?

I had to figure out where to get a 75-year-old skeleton key copied today. I'm willing to discuss that for the next few pages.

Make sure that the copy has a skull on it. That's the way they were always portrayed in old cartoons.

they still make skeleton keys?

No. That's why I said it was 75 years old. Our apartment has a door to the back stairs we share with the upstairs unit and the lock is an old one with only one key. So I had to get it duplicated. They don't make them anymore, but the right lock and key guy can make copies.

I asked for that. He looked at me funny. Cecil is not a man of humor.

Is that a shot a SLU merchandising?

A fair one, if it is. Also, have we ever had a recruit sign to SLU with the "hat" method? Also, isn't that one of the most obnoxious things in sports?

I seem to remember one of the Cardinal Ritter kids - Jahidi White, maybe? - using the hat method, but not choosing us (obviously).

We only argue important things.

What is our chartered flight situation this year?

I guess the discussion of George Mason doesn't qualify as important, which is probably true.

Any other pressing topics that need to be covered? Like can Jim Crews recruit?

Pujols is hitting .234; got his first Social Security check last week.

If SLU was in the MVC last year with Wichita St, Creighton, No. Iowa, et al, the log jam would be broken, the MVC would clearly be superior to The A-10.

The Wiz has The Pacers by 5 1/2, Spurs by 7 tonight; did 400 hours of computer work to determine this...

Whichever guard we get with our final scholarship spot, that is THE GUY we wanted, the others on the list were not so hot anyway.

I thought the "Decision" was far more obnoxious.

Yes - that may have been the worst sports broadcasting choice of all time. But it was a one-off thing (so far).

It bothers me that hundreds of kids do the "hat" thing every year. It's impossible not to look like an egotistical brat when you do it. And the same kids will tweet about God, hard work, humility, blah blah blah. No self awareness.

Only one I can remember. Obi had a hat, but it was a little different. It was one of those plastic hats and it was turned upside down and filled with ice cream.

I thought it was him choosing between the SLU hat, McDonald's visor, Burger King crown, or Steak n Shake paper hat?

Bump for the last two spots:

Offers:

Hakim Saintil, PG: 5-11, 170, Roselle Catholic HS, Roselle, NJ. Offers: SLU and Fairfield. Possible offers: St. Bonaventure, Rutgers, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Cincinnati, and SMU. Prep school a possibility. Latest (5/10): Oddly enough, a new article popped up yesterday from a Cincinnati recruiting blog. She seems to be basing her information on Verbal Commits and a few other sources and doesn't add anything particularly new ("he’s made it clear that he wants to get playing time right away, so if he doesn’t think that’s a possibility at UC or any other school on his list, he could quite possibly head to prep school to gain more experience and open the door to even more options in 2014"). Also mentioned that ESPN ranked him the 12th-best player in NJ in the class of 2013. Previous: His AAU team has been playing in weekend tournaments, and playing well. He hit a clutch 3 to tie, followed by a steal and layup to win one of these tournaments a few weekends ago. He recently visited St. Bonaventure, following which he posted plenty of retweets from Bona fans. Also, a Tweet to a friend indicated that he's still uncertain whether he'll sign or go to a prep school.

Jordan Strawberry, PG: 6-1, 170, Mater Dei HS, Santa Ana, CA. Offers: SLU, UC-Riverside, and at least 2 others (UNCW likely). Claims interest from Arizona, Virginia Tech, Gonzaga, California, and Florida State. Latest (5/13): A few tweets about "leaving Cali for good in a month" and removed the "committed to _____?" out of his profile, but no word on where he's going. Previous: Visit to SLU (and dad) went very well. Since then, UNC-Wilmington has gotten in the mix and has one scholarship left to give after Addison Spruill, a shooting guard from Brevard CC, committed yesterday, 4/30. No confirmation on an offer from UNCW but it seems likely they've made one. He seems to be SLU's backup plan to Randy Onwuasor, but SLU seems like his best opportunity. This list came out on 5/1 and Strawberry's name and picture is in it. Interestingly, Onwuasor and Lancona are not mentioned. He also told a buddy on Twitter that his visit "out there" went well and he's trying to make his decision.

Randy Onwuasor, PG: 6-3, 190, Inglewood HS, Inglewood, CA. Top Choices: SLU, Miami-Ohio, and Pitt. Other offers: UC-Irvine and Cal State-Fullerton. Interest from Tennessee, Tennessee Tech, Seton Hall, Florida State, Arkansas, UNLV, Tulane, New Mexico State, and Utah. Latest (5/13): Onwuasor appears to have deactivated his Twitter account. He seemed to like retweeting all the attention from SLU and Miami fans; not sure what's going on with that. Previous: Onwuasor has visited SLU and Miami-Ohio. SLU and Miami have both made in-home visits. He said to Ben Weixlmann that his final three choices are SLU, Miami, and Pitt. He will be playing in the Nike Global Challenge in DC in July. He has been retweeting SLU fans a lot, but the last two are about Tennessee and Tennessee Tech, both of whom are suddenly in the mix. A TTU assistant apparently visited, and he now says he plans to visit Knoxville soon. No word on offers from either. What looked like a SLU-Miami race has now opened back up. It's really hard to tell if the delay and other schools getting involved are the result of SLU prioritizing other players or Onwuasor testing the waters more.

Others:

Achraf Yacoubou, SG: 6-4, 210, Villanova. Transfer eligible as junior in 2014-2015. Interested in SLU, Pitt, and Georgia Tech. Latest (5/9): He will be visiting Pitt on May 14th. According to pantherlair.com writer Matthew Steinbrink, Pitt is focused on Yacoubou, Sheldon Jeter (if he decides to transfer), and DeAndre Kane. Kane just made it official, so Pitt has one scholarship left to give. Previous: Two Tweets from sportswriters on Friday, 5/3 said that Yacoubou visited SLU and will be visiting Pitt and Georgia Tech next. UNLV and Miami are out of contention.

Remy Abell, SG: 6-4, 201, Indiana. Transfer eligible as junior in 2014-2015. Interested in SLU, Xavier, and St. Mary's. Latest (5/13): Abell had a good visit to Xavier late last week and is arriving in St. Louis today. He will visit St. Mary's next but has not wrapped up travel plans for it. Previous: If he sticks to his timeline, Abell will be making a decision later this week. Abell is a Louisville native and of the three schools on his list, only Xavier recruited him in high school. He reportedly has an offer from VCU but has not listed them as a finalist. He was also contacted by Butler coach Brad Stevens but said the program was not the right fit for him.

Paul Jesperson, SG: 6-6, 197, Virginia. Transfer eligible as junior in 2014-2015. Interest from SLU, Northern Iowa, USC, Nebraska, and Florida. Latest (5/13): Jesperson tweeted UNI, St. Louis, USC... 3 great visits, couple more left tho" on the 11th. Previous: I'd think Nebraska is definitely one of the last couple visits, and Florida may be the other. At SLU, Manning (Virginia native) and Barnett (Wisconsin native) were his hosts. Pappy's was part of the itinerary.

Brett Jolly, PF-C: 6-10, Carroll HS, Southlake, TX. Offers: Weber State. Interest from SLU, Air Force, Belmont, Bucknell, Lehigh, Furman, North Texas, Penn, Tulsa, Sam Houston State, and Wichita State. Latest (5/13): Jolly is currently stuck in a wash basin in his backyard that he's not quite able to leap out of, so he's cancelled all his remaining recruiting visits and will not be playing D-I basketball next season.

With the Drew news, Abell becomes much more attractive to me. The roster is in good shape to withstand taking 2 transfers at once if the freshman can contribute a few spot minutes here and there.
