Even if we get killed I like playing name teams

+1 to this.

At least when we lose to Kstate it doesn't shock the world (and we get laughed at) like when we lose to TXA&MCC.

The optimistic side tells me that at least the Sophomores know what D1 basketball is like. The off-season can give them a lot of time to reflect on their game and be able handle situations differently this year. I especially think this applies to MY. He got off-track last year and really could not mentally gather himself to play well in Feb/March.

We still might stink, but the fact that the sophomore class didn't jump ship suggests that we cannot be any worse than last year.

Adding a legitimate frontcourt player and physical/mental maturation of our freshmen is what should make us decent again. If Bishop can be more productive than McBroom during conference play, that's just gravy.

Hopefully Bishop will be a better distributor than McBroom ever was, but from everything I've seen and read about Bishop it sounds like he will be less of an outside shooting threat than Bartley.

Actually, for the season, Bartley shot at a slightly higher percentage than McBroom: .430 vs. .429. McBroom had more made three-point attempts over the season, though: He was 42 of 98 compared to Bartley's 37 of 86.

When A10 play started and Bartley's role increased as McBroom worked his way deeper into the doghouse, the numbers change dramatically:

Bartley: 32/69, .464

McBroom: 14/41, .341

So does that make either of them conclusively the "best outside shooter on the team"? Probably not. However, if I had to pick one to keep, I'd take the freshman who shot over 46% down the stretch and made almost two of them per game over the junior trending the opposite direction.

More importantly, the offense ran better with Bartley playing more. Things seemed to stall with McBroom in there. I don't think he's a bad player, I just think he was a bad fit here. He's an undersized shooting guard and we needed him to be a veteran point guard.

Who said anything about wanting to lose Bartley? All I've ever said is that the pervasive "McBroom as Satan" meme on here is both funny and a little depressing to me, and 05 or whoever it was brought that into this thread. I hope Bartley turns into the next Erwin Claggett, or at least Kwamain Mitchell (from a shooting standpoint only).

Getting some name trams vs last years crappy schedule has to be a sign the staff is a little more optimistic SLU can be more competitive.

Maybe, but it will depend on how the rest of the schedule shapes up. In particular, what exempt tournament are we going to be in will determine whether this schedule is better or worse than last year's.

Wichita St. = Wichita St.

K-State <= Vandy

Louisville is > any non-con team we played last year but that's just one game and you have to take it whenever offered.

My point was that McBroom might not be the best outside shooter on the team in the long run. We lost someone who by all accounts was a cancer and still have a very capable outside shooter in Bartley.

Also, McBroom is Satan.

True. Shaft should have given him some concrete boots for the bottom of the Mississip' late in the season a couple years ago. Could have made a run to the national championship.

Hagreed. Though Shaft's ***** was obviously a dopey ho, getting swept off her feet by McBroom. Shaft is the man.

No kidding. Who goes from nailin the star of the show to some midget extra? Maybe she got tired of shaft and his log splitter and wanted some foo foo boy to make love.

I never thought I would hear McBroom described as a "midget extra" and a "foo foo boy."

It would be like Princess Leia saying "Han, you're great and all, but I think I'm going to go lay with R2D2."

Or the chick from Hey Dude! passing on Peter LaFleur to bang the wimpy robot guy with metal legs. Just doesn't add up.

Seems to me that the reason Weber wants K-State to play us in St. Louis is because he has made St. Louis an emphasis for his recruiting. Maybe this is the angle we need to start using to get better teams to come to town. Identify coaches recruiting local talent and work on them signing for a home and home series.

I know we'd be selling our soul a bit in giving these coaches the opportunity to improve their recruitment of local talent, but it would help the schedule. Also, if we would beat that team, we could always sell that win in our recruiting.

STL has long been an emphasis in his recruiting going back to his SIUC NCAA tourney teams....

So that's at least 2 teams on the schedule that made the sweet 16 or better last year. Impressive for us although I wish this was a series and not a one time game. Just get one more series with a BCS team and I can live with the rest of the schedule (minus Rockhurst being anything more than a preseason game).

One day, we can quit asking if Rockhurst counts.

Great news on Louisville. They will be relying heavily on 2 graduate transfer guards from smaller programs. As for Rockhurst, I've boycotted it the last 2 years. I guess SLU hasn't noticed the downward spike in beers sales yet.

Check out @JonRothstein's Tweet:

Obviously, this isn't a part of the A-10/ACC challenge as those pairings were announced a week or two ago, but its not clear to me if this is part of an exempt tournament or if its just a single, random neutral court game. Hope its just a random game and we also have an exempt tourney to get a couple more Power 6 schools on the schedule.

I would doubt if it would be part of an exempt tournament but it might be yet another "doubleheader" arranged by Barclay's (hopefully a "made for TV" doubleheader).

My guess this is going to be part of some exempt tournament. Last check of SB Nation - Blogging the Bracket - they had both Louisville and us not in an exempt event at this time.
