MB73
Good summary!! Not trying to nitpick but I must disagree some. College basketball is definitely a guards game. Also, we did NOT tear them up til this losing streak. Instead, I'd suggest that we have not really played that well since our road games at Dayton and at St. Joe. We continued to find ways to win, such as at home against VCU -- but OT wins over George Mason, a 4 point road win at Duquesne and the inability to consistently put lesser teams away has been going on for awhile. Decent point on the streak, we struggled some games for sure. RE: guards, no major dispute, but I said balance is needed, the guards get a lot of glory with the 3 point shots and the limelight when controlling the ball but the difference when you get deeper into the NCAA's the more you notice teams with plenty of good bigs, and good bigs are a rarer commodity, guards easier to come by. We have always had some good guards... but Majerus brought in Conklin, Reed, Ellis, Remekun, Ellis, Loe, Glaze, Manning... we were for the first time, ever, deep and diverse in the paint... a few fouls, no problem. I think that helped change the program. Remember when, if "V" got his 3rd foul early, we were history?
GOSLU68
It is important to go eight-nine deep as bad teams beat better teams by merciless fouling. Witness yesterday Lasalle had 18-7 first half fouls taking Saint Joe's out of the game. Our whole league has pounded the crap out of Evans, now Jett and Evans no wonder MM is very careful. This is bad behavior as the leauge sends wounded teams to the NCAA
Billikenboy
I just got word that Reggie had the surgery to repair a tear in his dislocated right shoulder . He sustained the injury during the preseason and played with it until reinjury in a practice in February. The surgery was successful and he will be ready in time for the Billiken 2014-2015 season run. Looking forward to seeing this kid in action again! Billboy1
Since he wasn't playing anyway would have been nice to know the injury was more serious than led to believe instead of everyone speculating why he wasn't being used.
Billfan78
I am guessing nobody ever asked or thought it was worth reporting. +/- and the route to the Providence airport is much more important.
Billikenboy
I think the coaching staff did not feel it had to inform the public but additionally giving specifics on injuries is usually hush hush anyway. At least this answers why we did not see RA play after the second time we heard he injured his shoulder in practice.
Billboy1
Again-he was not going to play so instead of thinking there was another problem (with his offense/defense) a brief statement could have been made. Nobody needed a full medical report.

I do know that the school itself is restricted with privacy/HIPPA issues but if only SLU had an actual beat writer who wrote about the players.... moytoy12
Curious why this didn't happen mid-season as maybe it would have helped in getting a med redshirt.
GOSLU68
If this is a pre season injury and I know I saw him try to get his own rebounds in warm ups and several times hurt himself and if we lost Carter because the staff did not help him get a redshirt-then we either need a new medical advisor or jC needs to set some protocol to protect the players and their ultimate worth to the team. I thought what Charley Spoonhauer did playing Virgil Cobbin on bad ankles throughout a season was over the top. At least Crews did not force him to play. It is somewhat like timeouts-you have to recognize when you need to use that alternative for the good of the team.
Basketbill
We did not lose Carter because the staff did not help him get a medical Redshirt! Prior to the injury Carter, was fine and played in a game, redshirt was not an option. A medical redshirt is not something that is given because we think of it, the player has to have an ongoing injury and unable to play the rest of the season. The injury that the Oral Roberts player had might have done it. Carter was looking for any reason to leave, and save eligibility in the meantime, fine trasnfer. Carter was an immature kid who got bad advice. He is gone his missed opportunity of playing in A10 Cahmpionship game, four NCAA torunament games. Bad decision son. Why exactly would it have been good to know the injury and plan? Are injury always black and white? NO they evolve, some respond to treatment some do not...... I do not know the Carter circumstance and am not an insider just an alum and fan. I might say "we" or us if I am talking about SLU vs somebody. I might say we if Illinois is playing against Mizzou and I would be loyal to U of I because I spent three semesters there and don't care about Missouri which has always seem to be on the wrong side of things with the exception of the Dan Devine football years. I do see things at games and the rare practice session: I think JC is a decent sort and I hope he has staff to make him a good HC. My question is why can't Agbeko qualify for another year-he certainly could not play this year because of injury. Carter would have played instead of AM and we probably would not have used a scholarship on AM if Carter was with us. I like AM and with the right team mates he will be a good asset. I do think he is better than when he started although he got timid as the competition got heated toward the end of the season. I do not want AM to be my point guard who never shoots. I like the fact that he would fire it up 30 times a game if he was in for 30 minutes-well maybe not that much. I don't think we should have a coach say so and so is under the weather or has a sprain-let the opponents take their own chances. I would like to have a team that dictated its own plan instead of trying to match the other guy's.

GOSLU68
Carter signed nov 15 2011 and AM signed Jun 27 2012 Sitting out a year muddled my memory. You get an extra credit for fact checking

Basketbill
I do not know the rules about a medical Red Shirt, their may be a case to make for it in Reggie's favor, however I suspect he played too much. hopefully his shoulder heal and is ready for more PT next year. Dwayne's_World
I've been hearing some great things about Reggie lately. A close friend of mine was talking with a student who is "highly involved" with the team in a number of ways, and according to this guy, Reggie has not only put on several more lbs of muscle, but he has also drastically improved his vertical, ball handling, and post moves in the offseason. Apparently the most improved player by far in his opinion. Can't wait to see Reggie in action this season.

doowop
Agbeko and Ash had good basketball reputations coming out of the New York area. It would be great if they both blossom this year.
