  1. -offering as perspective on how special..... JGood has 1,156 career points, 12.4ppg avg, if we play 30 games and he averages 16ppg he will be 7th all-time leading scorer already top 10 in rebounds, career to date avg is 8.5rpg, if he averages 8.0rpg (and it will be more) over 30 games he will be 4th or 5th in total rebounds depending on HAS career avg to date is 3.5apg, if we play 30 games and averages 3.0apg (and it will be more) he will be tied for 7th in career assists already second in career steals, career avg to date is 1.95spg, if we play 30 games and averages 1.5spg he will be all-time leader with 35 more than AB career avg to date is 34.5mpg, if we play 30 and he is at 34.5mpg he will be 3rd in all-time minutes played -no Billiken should ever wear 0 again -if the season goes close to as I suspect and the ADept wants to unfurl a 5th banner on Senior Night I am good with that -can we stop saying someone will 'replace' JGood? in 21-22 his minutes will be up for grabs but I find it almost impossible to believe there is a 'replacement'

  2. I don't disagree that Goodwin is an all-time great (and French, too) and that whatever recruits we bring in for these guys will not be true 1:1 replacements. Goodwin is a bit of a unicorn in the college game. He's the best rebounding guard in all of basketball by a pretty wide margin. He has a playing style that isn't common and most likely can't be found among available 2021 recruits of his caliber. I certainly hope no one is implying that whoever we bring in is an actual replacement for Jordan Goodwin. There is none. However, we do have the monumental challenge of literally replacing him on the roster in 2021. Let's say we land our top priority for that slot, Jordan Nesbitt. He's currently rated 59th in the Rivals rankings, around where Goodwin was at his peak. He's climbing rapidly in national ratings and considered to be undervalued by many scouts and writers and general observers. No one is saying Nesbitt is the same player as Goodwin, but he would be the closest thing to actually "replacing" him. He's taller, he's a better all-around scorer, and has a more natural feel as a lead guard from what I can tell (seems to see the floor better, not as turnover prone). He is not even close to the rebounder Goodwin is nor is he the natural leader Goodwin is at this point. But he's a similar-level recruit (or better) with the ability to step in and play major minutes immediately. If we don't land a player of that caliber, there really is nothing close to a replacement. There would be a recruit or recruits who hopefully pay off longer term and fit with the roster. There's also the fact that underclassmen behind Goodwin can continue to increase their roles. Replacement by committee, basically. I think anyone using the word replacement is being aspirational in recruiting outlook, not disrespectful to JG.

  3. This is the mindset of what tFord talked about. Better to have good L's than average or below average W's

  4. Eh, Jordan Nesbitt doesn't really do it for me.

  5. I have highlighted my priority recruits. Shane Dezonie gets an honorable mention. Isaiah Barnes is also a solid - albeit nondescript - baller name.

  6. I don’t want to sound condescending, but if people have a problem with seeing too much “politics” on the home page, I would recommend messaging or emailing the Mods directly, rather than starting a thread which will inevitably turn into a discussion or argument about politics.

  7. Agreed. I’m not saying we shouldn’t schedule any cupcakes. I’m not sure we could accomplish that even if we wanted to. But it should take less time to get into mid season form.

  8. Power 5 is a football distinction and needs to stop being used for basketball. The Big East is a better basketball conference than the SEC and regularly better than the Big 12 and Pac 12. The Big East is a major basketball conference. The WCC and A-10 are not.

  9. I think it’s a matter of perspective. There was a time, under Greg Marshall, where Wichita St. was probably a top-5 non-Power-5 team. A number of years. You wouldn’t have been able to that before or since, but for that 5 or so years, it was true. If you’re talking about program tradition...yes, it will take more than a few decent tournament runs to get us there. But if you’re talking about just being a top-3 non-Power-5 team team on a season to season basis, I think with some good luck, that is attainable in the not to distant future.

  10. In general I agree with you, but remember that we get value out of a few blood donors (Hi Pt; FL Glf Cst: E Wash) at the beginning of each season to allow the team to jell and for the coaches to test various combinations and see how players are reacting in game situations.

  11. Of all the non-P5 conference schools, I'd be very happy if we could fit into the discussion for 3rd best, at least in the immediate future. I'll cede the #1 and #2 spots to the Zags and Nova. I would love to see us at the level of X, Creighton and Marquette as consistent NCAA tournament teams going to the Sweet 16 or Elite Eight, 3 or 4 times every 10 years. If TF and staff continue on the track they are on now with regard to bringing in talent, we can get there sooner rather than later, in fact, maybe starting this year. Just think how good we would be if Travis could actually coach!

  12. Agree 100%. I'd rather play a top 15 team tough and lose by 5 points than beat High Point by 12.

  13. Stockrisers also mentions us with Nesbitt. Pistol is reading between the lines. We're the only mid-major Nesbitt mentions by name, even though we're not his only mid-major offer. https://stockrisers.com/2020/05/03/four-star-junior-jordan-nesbitt-talks-recruitment/ “Saint Louis, Nebraska, Ole Miss, Illinois and Alabama, Seton Hall are heavily involved,” Nesbitt told Stockrisers.com.

  14. Jacobs has a well-defined skillset. In the halfcourt, he's a good spot-up shooter and if you run out at him, he's is capable of taking a couple of dribbles to get to the basket. He's not going to create his own shot when closely guarded and if he's on the move he rarely passes it. When Jacobs doesn't score early, either by hitting that spot up jumper or driving baseline, or we're not getting easy buckets in transition, that's when he "disappears" on offense. Guys who can consistently create their own shot (Perkins), knock down shots from anywhere (Jimerson), or are always around the ball (Goodwin, French) are consistent offensive players. Everybody else is at the mercy of what the defense gives them.

  16. For what its worth, I think Perkins will start in that spot.If he doesn't he will be the first guard off the bench - not DJ or FT

  17. This. 2019 Thatch > 2019 Jacobs; 2020 Jacobs > 2019 Thatch. Unless something happens, I can't see Ford going with the 2020 lineup next year, with Thatch subbing for Jacobs, unless something transformative happens with outside shooting. You can't start a lineup with 5 guys below average from three-point range. I see Thatch as first guard off the bench, who spells Jacobs, then Collins, then J-Good. I don't see him playing more than 15mpg. Big minute guys (30+) are the Core 4. Everyone else below 20, and will depend on matchups.
