crymdg2
Anyone heard if there's a plan on redshirting him this year or not?
thetorch
While there may be redshirts still to be discussed I believe it is doubtful for two reasons 1. Injuries - Glaze is already hurt, Lancona & Agbeko have been injury prone. 2. Gillmann has competed well over the summer and fall. While he may be at the bottom of the depth chart his play has earned him a look from the staff. He and Jolly are not that far apart.

RUBillsFan
I don't want to start a big thing, but if we aren't using initials can we try to nip the misspelling of GiLLmaNN in the bud right away. Double L, double N.
SLU_Nick
I am not sure who should redshirt, but it would be nice if someone would for the long term success of the team. True freshmen at SLU do not have a history of contributing and we always end up wanting one more year out of them when they eventually become seniors (Cory Remuken comes immediately to mind). Littlebill
seriously?+1 this is really concerning based on what we've heard about Jolly and what I've seen from AG in the past. Just not ready. I'd be okay with being proven wrong, but I'm just not sure yet
cgeldmacher
Let's not get carried away. The whole Gillmann should redshirt thing seems to me to completely be the result of message board assumptions not based in any way on fact. I don't know if the kid should redshirt or not, but let's not suddenly turn the fact that Gillmann is progressing well into Jolly must not be as good as we thought. It's quite possible that the staff knew what they were getting with both of them and that both of them are turning out to be better than we had hoped. What's wrong with that? When it comes to evaluating our players, I trust three sources: the staff, a few insiders on this board who actually spend time to see the kids play, and my own eyes. The staff hasn't given me their breakdown of how Jolly and Gillmann are doing and I don't expect it soon. The insiders either haven't seen a practice or aren't saying much yet. There have been no games where I have seen either of these two play. Therefore, there is absolutely no basis for developing any opinion about Jolly or Gillman at this point. Let's please let this play out instead of letting message board rumors about a kid's talent level color our thoughts about the kid. Maybe Jolly is further along, and Gillmann should redshirt. Maybe Gillman would give us more this year, and Jolly should redshirt. Maybe neither should redshirt. Let's just wait and see what happens. slufan13
I'd redshirt a kid just because I think a 6 man recruiting class is too big. You're going to be in the same position every time when you have to replace half your team every 4 years. If they can all contribute though, it's really hard to sit someone. WVBilliken
Would love to see all 6 complete their SLU careers in four years. But kids leave the program, there are injuries, etc. (See Rick Majerus's 8 player 2008 class). RC -- Left first semester freshman year (head case). KC -- Four year player. BC -- Four year player. FJ -- Injured as freshman, never able to come back as player. MK -- Out one year due campus incident, Fifth year player. WR -- Played two years then left due to campus incident. BT -- Left after freshman year, went to lower level of competition. JR -- Injured as frosh, never returned. It is highly unlikely all six will graduated from SLU four years from now. Quality Is Job 1
Wasn't Jeff Reid in the following year's class?
willie
I was at a business dinner last week with a couple of guys from Witchita Kansas . Somehow Billiken Basketball came up. They knew Jeff Reid and said he was doing well. Graduated from college and was looking for a job.

I agree with the idea that redshirting someone would make sense. In this class, we have two bigs, one sort of forward, and three guards. If we want to redshirt a guy for purpose of class balance, wouldn't it make more sense for us to redshirt one of the guards.
