I just pounded the Bonnie’s at +3.5 and hope I lose cash! go bills! You almost pulled it off...The Bills winning AND SBU covering. The Bonnies had the ball for the final shot and then fumbled it away. Had they made it , you would have had a double win. Quote
The Wiz Posted January 9 Author Posted January 9 What a great game and a big win...This was an A team with one of the top defenses in the country. The next spread thread should be an interesting one. Let's take a look at what happened...Bolded statements are from above... The team that controls the game, wins the game. The unstoppable force (Bills offense) vs the immovable object (Bonnie defense)...The unstoppable force knocks over the immovable object. The Bonnies gave up an extra 12 pts. Play fast and aggressive from the opening buzzer all game... which we did..this was especially true when Thames was in there. Target slash 49 / 36 / 73...Yes, yes and yes...actual slash...49/39/77...always important to make shots and we did... Hold them to less than 70pts...68 is great...This was huge since Council , Brown and Moore had a good night we still held their team back enough to beat them. TOs even...we lost this one by 1 ..TOs will be critical...We have a respectable 11.8 TO rate (C+)...St. B has a good rate of 10.7 (B+)...We did what we were supposed to do. win Rebs by 2...This was a miss...mostly it was the Anya who was missing, playing only11 min because of foul trouble...with only 2 rebs that cost us 8-9 rebs. Fortunately Thames was able to fill the gap when Anya was out. Once Thames (cramping) and Anya were out some where near the end St. B dominated the boards and the lead started to evaporate. Had Thames or Anya been able to finish the game we would made the rebs by 2 and probably won the game by 16. Bottom line.... If we can make them play our game and we make some shots ...we win. We did , we did and we did There was a lot to like in this game . Was it perfect? No, but that just means we have more upside to go. Adman, CenHudDude, JettFlight5 and 2 others 5 Quote
Old guy Posted January 9 Posted January 9 @The Wiz As far as Thames is concerned, I do not think they have a valid diagnosis or treatment for his cramps, not yet. I think they will be forced to play Thames, as good as he is and as well as he plays, for a limited amount of time per game for the rest of the season, and possibly for the rest of his college education. I believe Thames is likely to have a build up of lactic acid in his muscles which brings him down with cramps after a certain amount of exercise (maximum playing time is yet to be determined). I believe he will need a deep muscle biopsy to make a firm diagnosis, something that will need significant amount of healing time and cannot be done during the active playing season. There may or may not be a curative treatment available for whatever causes this problem, which is similar in physical manifestations to the mitochondrial myositis Thatch was diagnosed with. If this turns out to be the case for Thames, a career as a professional basketball player will be over for him. He will need to change plans and probably his academic major as well into a sedentary occupation that will allow him to make a living working in an office without overexertion to his muscles. His ultimate outcome after college appears likely to be similar to Welmer's and Thatch's. Quote

Old Guy, are you saying Thames is better off sitting on his bottom preparing tax returns all day rather than snagging rebounds? Quote

He means in the future. I asked a Doctor about this condition, and they said there are so many possible causes that it could take a while to find the root cause. So many student-athletes are going pro in things other than sports. Thames may need to work on his accounting game. I just hope his condition isn't triggered by the secondhand smoke of Spanish exchange students smoking cigs outside Davis-Shaughnessy Hall. PS Josh Fisher married one of those Spanish exchange students and still lives in Madrid to this day. Quote

Agree with A_Bomb. If the man cannot play sports because they demand a level of physical exertion that he cannot tolerate, then he has to find a way to make a living in an occupation that requires less physical exertion. He does not have to do taxes, he can work in just about any regular occupation but must avoid work that do require large amounts of physical exertion. Check the amount of minutes he has been able to play (15 against Jackson St., 15 against SF, 23 against Chicago ST, 10 against IL State, after this game he did not play for the next 3 games Wooford, Grand Canyon, and William woods resting forr about 2 weeks, then he played 10 against Fordham, 11 against St. Joseph, and 13 against St. Bona). I think it is pretty well established that he cannot tolerate game level muscle exertion for more than around 10 to maybe 15 minutes, even after a 2 week resting with no play. Kindly tell me what professional team either in the US or elsewhere will take a man that can only play 10 to 15 minutes per game? He needs to figure what he wants to do for a living after college, and the job chosen by him will require little physical exertionn. Quote
Cowboy II Posted January 9 Posted January 9 -there have been several posts indicating it could take some time to diagnose what's happening with KT, how about we allow that to happen before some try to decide his career? Billikenbooster, White Pelican, AGB91 and 1 other 4 Quote

I think this is something that is up to him to decide. However, playing 15 minutes or so per game will not work at professional level sports, so he will have to prepare to make a living doing something else. It is not up to us to decide. Quote
VeniceMenace Posted January 10 Posted January 10 I don’t recall Thatch or Thames having this issue in high school…and don’t recall it in any athlete in St. Louis sports since the 1970s….could there be a variable on campus or in this fancy new athletic building that causes this malady in a select few? Like drinking Tang that’s way past its expiration date? Quote
