Zink
Not sure how I would feel about him as a transfer. Would end up bringing the incoming class to six (unless Gillmann redshirts, then it would be five which is still larger than ideal) plus we already have a bunch of young bigs (Agbeko, Lancona, Jolly, Gillmann, plus Welmer for '15). Definitely was highly rated coming out of DeSmet, but will he end up being better than the rest of these guys? I just really want either a non-class of '14 wing player from this last scholarship or for us to save it.
kmbilliken
Did Butler have so many good 4 & 5s that he couldn't get any PT? Or was he just not as good as advertised?
DeSmetBilliken
I'd be thrilled if he came to SLU. He committed to Butler after they had their back-to-back NCAA title game appearances. That had to be a draw for him. Since then, we've gone to 3 straight NCAAs, been in the national polls, won a few A10 titles, and Brad Stevens left Butler. Here's to hoping he realizes what is possible at SLU.
NH
He was a very skinny freshman. Not to mention butler did have some experience up front. Not fair to judge his talent on last season alone.
jimbofive
don't want him. the only players i'm interested in accepting back with open arms after shi.tting on us the first time around are mickey deeeeeez all-amurrrrrricans. scrub at butler, scrub here. hit the bricks. JettFlight5
Seems there's some comparison of Nolan Berry to Rob Loe. I'd take another RL anyday.

slufan13
Don't want him. Don't think he really fills a need with Gillmann, Jolly, Agbeko, Lancona, and Welmer already in the books for the next couple years. I mean I'd take him but I'd like to get a full look at the transfer market before making a run at a guy who hardly played for a 14-17 Butler team. Plus like others have said, I already think that 5 players in one recruiting class is too many. It's just too unbalanced. Even if we got Berry and Gillmann redshirtted, we'd still have 5 in that class and that just seems like too much to me. I already don't like the position we're in this year with losing 5 seniors. I don't want that happening every 3 or 4 years. Keep this class at 5 guys. Gillmann redshirts. 4 man class. Use the last scholarship on a transfer who would have 2 years of eligibility left or save it for next year.
brianstl
If he comes here someone out of the group of Welmer, Gilliam, Jolly would probably have to go at some point. I really liked him coming out of high school. Don't know if he wants to have the grand kid of Easy Ed hanging over him at SLU.
Billikenswin
Keep using that as your judgment of the real world and you'll go far. I watched Butler play a number of times this year and during the early season Berry was buried on the end of the bench. The team lost game after game and they basically never gave him a chance until late in the season when he got a few minutes late in the game. I really tried to evaluate him and it was very difficult. He seemed pretty uninspired but he has a nice touch from outside and he is taller than he was in high school. His defense would need a lot of work but I think he is a smart player--almost old school in his approach. I have no idea whether he would fit in with our team or be athletic enough to make an impact. I really hate the idea of taking kids who leave for the so called bright lights and then want to come home if it does not work out but I sure like the idea of having a local kid who is the grandson of the late great Ed M. I think this is not a clear cut decision at all and the staff will need to evaluate whether he can truly fit into our long team plans. JMM28
A 17 year old kid was trying to make the best college decision he kid and a bunch of adults on a message board choose to hold a grudge against him because of it. Always baffles me. I made a joke.... I just don't know how he fits. With Gillmann and Jolly signed, Agbeko and Lancona in the fold already plus the mystery of Wellmer in 2015...that is a lot of scholarships tied up in big men that would seem to do very similar things. He didn't get any minutes for a really bad Butler team that was very thin up front. What would he bring that Lancona, etcetera don't? brianstl
Welmer did reclassify to 2015, right? I thought so, but I think I read somewhere that he still might not. It might depend on if they fill the last spot or not.

That said, I got to agree with you about letting the transfer market shake out a little more before signing someone. Yeah I mean I have no idea how good the kid is. I'm just saying we have other guys in the fold. Agbeko isn't really a comparable player I guess. I like what I see out of Lancona. Lancona put up better numbers than Berry and Lancona did it on a Tourney team. I'd take Berry over Gillmann but that obviously isn't an option. I'd be fine with getting him if there is nothing else out there. I think we could land a pretty solid transfer at a different position or even a better player than Berry at his position. I just don't want to rush to any decision. I also really don't want to have too big of a recruiting class. If you want to be the type of program that "reloads" instead of "rebuilds" you need to have much more even classes than the 2 man classes (Glaze/Manning and McBroom/Yacoubou) and then 5 man classes of this year's seniors and next year's freshmen
JMM28
I thought so, but I think I read somewhere that he still might not. It might depend on if they fill the last spot or not. Wasn't it assumed he was reclassifying and that was what the scholarship at SLU was contingent upon?
Zink
Wasn't it assumed he was reclassifying and that was what the scholarship at SLU was contingent upon? This is a total guess on my part, but if we don't fill that last scholarship, wouldn't it make more sense for him to get on campus and take a redshirt instead of going to prep school? That might be why we haven't heard anything for sure.
brianstl
Wasn't it assumed he was reclassifying and that was what the scholarship at SLU was contingent upon? That is what I thought, but I think it was on the post site that I read a post by someone who lives in Indiana saying it wasn't definite that he was reclassifying. I guess it would make sense if they don't fill the last scholarship to bring him in now. I would rather have him redshirt and be in our program than at a prep school. WVBilliken
Sign a JC point guard wtih our final scholarship or an immediately eligible player. Offer a 2015-2016 scholarship to Berry and preferred walk-on for 2014-2015. Recruiting then done for next year.
Billboy1
Nope-he had his chance and made his decision. He needs to move on and SLU will get people who want to come into the program.
