Clock_Tower
Recently bought tickets for Evita showing at Fox Theater. The landscape on/by campus has sure changed since I graduated in 1993. Any suggestions for a pre-show restaurant?
Pistol
My recommendation would be to pick any restaurant and stay there for four hours. That way, you don't have to see Evita.
pretty_ricky
Pappys smokehouse is best food by far but hard if you're going at night also not too formal. The shack is pretty good classic american bar food.
cgeldmacher
Triumph is a pretty good restaurant within walking distance. Vito's, which is a block away from Triumph, is also good.

GOSLU68
I would walk right by the St. Louis Steakhouse Southeast on Grand and probably the closest other than the Southside diner. Unless your date likes edgy?

slu72
Hands down, gotta go w/the Best. Just ask West Pine Jim.
bonwich
Try The Block on Sarah(?) a block west of campus. Probably the best restaurant in proximity. (The Mexican place on campus is OK; I haven't been to The Shack in the old Caleco's space.) You could also try any number of places in the Grove and drive up Vandeventer when you're done. Box and Won
The Fountain on Locust is a good spot as well.
West Pine Jim
Hands down, gotta go w/the Best. Just ask West Pine Jim. Right you are, slu72. Good enough for Ann-Margret is good enough for me. The Block (I've never been there) got a good writeup in the latest UNews.

slu72
To Willie, you never went to SLU if you didn't think dining at the Best was like dining at 21 in NYC. Nothing but fond memories and ask WP Jim how good their PChops are.
willie
Compared to dorm food it was great but fine dinning NOT.

In the end, we took Joe's recommendation and chose The Block -- and certainly glad we did. Walleye, steak, wine... awesome dinner!! Thanks again Joe.
