Dayton fans not to happy with SLU fans

These Dayton fans are saying how bad the student section was towards them and how they think it was terrible that SLU would put them right behind them.

I also found this forum to be funny on how wrong the Dayton fans on this forum were with predicting the score of the Flyers SLU game.

There are some other SLU fan bashing forums on there as well I find it funny how bad they say we act!

Yeah they talk about how loud their chants were I heard chants maybe 2 times and that was before the game and at half time in the halls. Dayton fan's are so full of themselves.

From my point of view, second only to the great win and the gritty play of our team and its freshmen, was the fact that the size of the Dayton contingent was much smaller than in the past and as a result their cheering was almost non existant in comparison to our Billiken fans. Over the past few years it made me sick to see all of the Dayton red and the cheering that came from those people. Just another wonderful development that comes from having our own building!

I thought I remember seeing the UD fan sections up in the upper part of the arena on either side... how is that in front of our students?

After reading that, it seems as though most of the people didn't think our actions were much different from those of UD students... Just one "ivory tower" mother who could not handle the crowd.

Yeah, I was expecting more Dayton fans aswell because they would always bring in good crowds and especially them just reaching the top 25 but I don't think it would have mattered because the Jewel of midtown was rockin Saturday night!

What section(s) do you think they are complaining about. From my seats, I noticed UD fans roughly in Sections 215/216 and Section 207/208 was well as the first few rows behind their own bench. Do you think this UD lady was complaining about sitting behind her own team's bench (Section 116) which is not that far from the Student section? If so, I will trade my tickets to be in courtside only a few rows from the floor.

Recall, UD makes available Section 400 level seats for opposing fans at their place where it is difficult to even see the student section much less hear the students.

Frankly, I just thinks it's great that UD fans didn't have the red carpet rolled out for them, as they had been accustomed to, at Scottrade taking up the entire corner by the band beginning courtside. Also, I thinks its great that we had a 1,000 plus student crowd which sure beats the 20 to 40 students they had been accustomed to seeing/hearing. Beleive that is what the one guy was referring to when he said they moved UD fans b/c they would outcheer SLU fans. Hopefully, those days are over.

I love the post from the lady who kept saying "hubby" on a chat board. I can just picture that guy, blue dress shirt with a knitted red sweater tied aroud his neck. Poor guy was probably once cool. Nah

Yeah, you have to be pretty close. To me, she sounds like Jean Teasdale, regular columnist for The Onion ("A Room of Jean's Own"), who uses the phrase "Hubby Rick" each column to refer to her abusive, rarely-employed loser husband:

I get the idea Dayton is a haven for the Teasdales of the world, along with most Valley cities. I love the fact that UD's fan board has the romantically unfulfilled cat lady types posting.

Also, for what it's worth, one of my buddies was escorted out of the arena for his continuous loud, crude jeers toward the UD fan section behind the students. Once he found out about the watermelon thing, I'm surprised he made it to the 9:00 mark of the second half. St. Louis' finest escorted him from the arena. I'm pretty sure point #3 on the 12th post on that UDPride thread was about him. Too bad some of the sensitive UD fans are whining about the treatment they got at SLU. What does one expect for a night game on the road behind a section full of people who have been drinking at Mardi Gras for the previous 10 hours?

They tried to take credit for nipping the watermelon thing in the bud. It wasn't that we were told not to, it was that it didn't get around fast enough.

It was probably better that it didn't get around fast enough. The watermelon thing was made up by a Xavier fan at a X website. The fabricated story concerns UD players who have been gone from there for 5 years. For X to do it is one thing, seeing as it might be considered to be a "tradition" for them, but for SLU to plagiarize Xavier's made up, 5 year old story is rather lame. I'm sure the Blue Crew has the creativity to come up with their own ideas.

Quote from a Dayton Fan...."Also, there was a fight in a lower section between fans. I saw a young guy in a black jacket run up the stairs, and the staff wasn't breaking any speed records to catch him. Not sure if he was one of ours or one of theirs, but they must not care how their event staff manages the crowd. Must be easy money."

I know the guy she is talking about that got kicked out and what really happend was he was yelling at BRIAN GREGORY for complaining. The Dayton fans sitting in the row in front of him started mouthing off to him, so they started mouthing back and forth and the Dayton fan turned around and ripped my friends beads right off his body. Thats when it started getting out of control they had to be seperated by the cops and he got thrown out but the Dayton fan didn't which didn't make much sense. We had fans coming up to us saying it was crap our friend got thrown out and the Dayton fan didn't. These Dayton fans are absolutly full of it!

I'm wondering how they got so many seats right behind their bench. I hope those aren't reserved for the visiting team.

there are always a number of seats right behind the opposing bench reserved for visitors. At Savvis, we had a number of confrontations because some rabid SLU fans sat right behind them.

I wish I had known that. Btw .... brian gregory is a whiny little *****. Sometimes I wonder if some coaches get that when you complain about every call, even the ones that are clearly right .... your complaining loses it's effect.

Every SLU fan in the area should have made a scene until the UD fan got thrown out also .... they can't throw out an entire section.

My feelings exactly. If nothing else, this is old stuff and so is meaningless, as someone had mentioned earlier. The disappointing thing is that the Blue Crew didn't have more creativity, as you said.

i've been to plenty of away games and never once did i expect to be welcomed with open arms. i wear my blue and i clap and yell for the billikens, but i would never engage an opposing fan in their house. i have also been targeted by the opposing fans many times just for wearing blue and clapping for the billikens, but it never escalated to anything more than fan enthusiasm imo simply because i didnt react.

my bet is that the dayton folks are the ones that pushed back. had they just sat there and took the initial brunt my bets are the antagonistic billiken fans turn away.

my point is, dont go into an opponent's house and expect we'll all join hands, sing "kumba ya" kiss and have crumpets and tea. that isnt realistic.

"the UD fan section behind the students. "

Pistol. Which section are you referring to?
