    Ouch.
    I know I am in the minority, the VAST minority, but Welmer is #1 on my list of MIA.  We can certainly use more shooters, but we have Roby and Johnson.  The missing shooters are no better or no worse.  You can always use more ball handlers, but we have Goodwin and Bishop.  What we don't have is a decent backup for French (and Johnson) that can play inside and outside.
    Just my opinion, and I'm not looking for anyone to agree.
  2. HoosierPal liked a post in a topic by The Wiz in A Visit From The Wiz...A Billiken Xmas Story
    'Twas the night before Christmas when all thro' the Fetz
    Not a creature was stirring, not even a Metz
    The banners were hung from the rafters with care,
    In hopes that The Wiz would soon be there;
    The fans were nestled all snug in their seats;
    With visions of Bills wins, while they munched on their treats.
    And Mama in her 'kerchief, and I in my Bills cap
    Had just settled in for a win streak without a gap-
    When on the lawn there arose such a clatter,
    I sprang from my seat to see what was the matter.
    Away to the window I flew like a flash
    Tore open the shutters, and threw up the sash.
    The moon on the breast of the new fallen snow,
    Gave the luster of mid-day to objects below;
    When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,,
    But a basketball team as quick as reindeer,
    With a little old driver, so lively and all biz,
    I knew in a moment it must be The Wiz.
    More rapid than eagles his coursers they came,
    And he whistled and shouted and call'd them by name:
    Now! Johnson, now! Goodwin, now! Bess, oh my lord,
    On! French, on! Hines, on! Roby, and Ford;
    To the top of Gate A ! To the top of the wall !
    " Now dash away ! Dash away ! Dash away all !"
    As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly,
    When  they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky;
    So up to the arena top the coursers they flew,
    With a bus load of stats and The Wiz too:
    And then in a twinkling I heard on the floor
    The bouncing of b-balls making baskets galore.
    As I drew in  my head, and was turning around,
    Down Section 103 The Wiz came with a bound:
    He was dress'd all in Bills gear, from his head to his toe,
    And his clothes were all blue, he was ready to go;
    A bundle of spreads was flung on his back,
    And he look'd like a peddler just opening his pack:
    His eyes- how they twinkled ! His dimples: how merry,
    His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry;
    His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow,
    And the beard of his chin was as white as the snow;
    The stump of a pipe he held tight in his teeth,
    And the smoke it encircled his head like a wreath.
    He had a broad face, and a little round belly
    That shook when he laugh'd, like a bowl full of jelly:
    He was chubby and plump,  a right jolly old elf,
    And I laugh'd when I saw him in spite of myself;
    A wink of his eye and a twist of his head
    Soon gave me to know that The Wiz had a spread.
    He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,
    And calculated point spreads, ; then turn'd with a jerk,
    And laying his finger aside of his nose
    And giving a nod, up the concourse he rose.
    He sprung in the Chaifetz , to his team gave a whistle,
    And away they all flew like the down of a thistle:
    But I heard him exclaim, ere he shouted out clear--
    Happy Christmas to all, it will be better next year.
    To all that follow the Billiken Biz
    Merry Christmas to all , best wishes from The Wiz

    If illinois hangs on, Underwood should go in the mizzou locker room and tell them how hard they played ala martin.

    I have certainly benefited from the tax deduction on SLU Athletic donations in the past, but this was one of the worst loopholes in the old tax code and I'm glad its gone. In no way shape or form should donations to big-time D1 athletics be tax deductible and the fact schools would make such donations a requirement for seat purchases is abusive. While SLU did this on a small scale, try buying football season tickets to an LSU game without making a significant tax deductible donation.

    Read the second half of this Phil Mushnick, NY Post's article about Martin buying teenagers.
    https://nypost.com/2017/12/02/complacent-media-give-broken-sports-world-a-pass/
    'In April, Missouri signed the nation’s No. 1 high school recruit, 6-foot-10 swingman Michael Porter Jr. He was injured in the season’s first game — he’s likely out for the season following back surgery — but he’s still considered NBA-bound, as early as next season.
    Why Missouri? Funny you should ask.
    The school hired his father as an assistant coach. And unless Porter Sr. is working for free, how can any logical human — or shrub — not conclude Missouri paid off Senior to deliver Junior?
    Any college president with an active sense of fundamental right from wrong would have told Missouri coach Cuonzo Martin, “Oh, no you don’t. We don’t buy teenagers.”
    You think this would pass muster in Missouri Law School’s ethics classes? Then again, the academician who enabled the North Carolina no-show-classes scandal was fully enabled by a professor of ethics.

    Fair.
    I'm not worried about being nice to 05 anymore, though. I'm completely tired of his act. I know I'm not alone.

    Does this mean Anthony is: "A product that is too general in use or appearance, meaning it does not have any special features?"  Or does it mean, "Totally and Obviously Fouled Up?"

    The problem with this game was the title to the thread, flooding beavers?  They live for floods, and control flooding.  Maybe we should have focused on trapping them?

    In my opinion Bonner is the greatest Billiken of all time.  He scored 360 points (10.3 ppg), 337 boards, (9.6 rpg), hit at a FG rate of 59%, and had 32 steals as a freshman.  He also lead the team in blocks with 18. He played with Douglass and Gray, two other great Billikens.

    Well you may be right, but those three don't have any improvement over Johnson and Roby, in particular.  For the 8 games, Johnson is 40% this season and Roby 37%.  Past full season for Henriquez was 36%, Bishop was 37% and Welmer was 37%.  So they are right there with what we already have.  If you want to start whacking minutes off of poor three point shooters, you know who is last on the list at 9%, followed by Hines at 21% and Bess at 27%.  Not as easy an answer as you may think.

    Fun fact: We're raving about French's performance and he tied his season low in rebounds, with 4 (also had 4 vs. VT).
    He just made big plays when we needed them, played tough defense, and the difference he makes doesn't always show up in the stat sheet. Werewolves gonna werewolf.

    I'm not an attorney but I did sleep at Holiday Inn.
    You have to be faculty, staff or a student at a university (or other educational program that receives federal funding) to file a Title IX complaint.

    OK I'll speak.  Clock, you are misreading my remarks, irresponsibly but not necessarily willfully.  (Not willful, since It's possible you are simply a very poor reader.)  And thanks to guys like 615 and Quality, whose reading skills are superior to yours, for stepping up to my defense.  They and others were more successful in unravellling my very very complex prose.  In a morbid way, I actually admire the creative reading of my comments by Clock, since it so expertly reveals the epistemological confusions that more and more people are recognizing as essential to the Facebook media culture of our current mess.  Bravo Clock for that ingenious reading, coupled with your savvy, Fox News-like pivot away from my actual point!
    The passage in question is this:  "Evidently some are clueless to the general tone of these issues in the media and culture right now;  when a guy like Matt Lauer can be summarily fired like he was the other day, I think it's pretty clear that we've reached some sort of unprecedented tipping point on issues of sexual abuse/assault, not to mention simply stupid sexual nonsense like has been alleged in this case."
    I was making a fairly obvious observation about the "general tone" of sexual misconduct in our culture right now, and my sense that we've reached some kind of "tipping point," meaning we've become ultra-sensitive about these things.  One recent illustration of this is Lauer but I could name a couple dozen more, all of which have contributed to this context. As for the timeline of this emergin tipping point, , I suspect a lot  of it went on steroids when out great leader's idiotic comments to Billy Bush broke in October 2016, showing the world that he was a serial predator.  So Lauer is simply the latest in a long series of idiot sexual conduct being exposed (no pun intended).  I even showed how Lauer and the basketball situation are different, by distinguishing Lauer from "simply stupid sexual nonsense."  Actually, now that I think of it -- the sentences are not really all that complicated, after all...
    I am a cultural historian by trade so perhaps I take for granted some of the underlying premises of my remarks.  But you don't need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows....

    Me neither.  I must agree.  Get a life, anyway...  this thread (which I started, btw) at 80 pages?? really??
    Evidently some are clueless to the general tone of these issues in the media and culture right now;  when a guy like Matt Lauer can be summarily fired like he was the other day, I think it's pretty clear that we've reached some sort of unprecedented tipping point on issues of sexual abuse/assault, not to mention simply stupid sexual nonsense like has been alleged in this case.  I also value integrity in the program, and the school.
    From my reading of the student code, and what little knowledge I have of what was alleged to happen -- duh, some rules were broken.  Hope I'm wrong, but we some of us may need a bracing reality check.  But my point is --  we are living in very troubled times regarding these issues of sexual misconduct, and the media is hungry for more. So be patient and do it right.
    If you don't want to support SLU athletics, then don't:  I can PM you a list of a couple dozen very worthy  local charities that could use some additional holiday love and support.

    I love horseradish.  One of my favorite flavors.  Doesn't mean it won't get me.  I full expect to take bites that are too big several times and go into those very brief horseradish seizures.

    Lol seriously? I am also frustrated with the investigation. But a university president’s job is so much more than that. Under Pestello SLU is tackling its financial issues while climbing up in the U.S News rankings. They have record freshman enrollment. He has a vision to invest heavily in research.
    Has this been handled in the most efficient way? I don’t think so, but I’m just an average joe fan with extremely limited knowledge. Who knows what’s actually going on with this.
    Fire a university president for a slow title ix investigation? Give me a break.
