  1. I just bought a Kenpom account. Per Kenpom, as of the end of last season SLU had the #13 best home court advantage overall in NCAA per advanced statistics. I found that interesting and thought I'd share.

  2. My opinion, no factual basis to it, is that he probably does not want to deal with NILs at his age.

  3. I can't speak to what KenPom does but I can tell you what I do to figure home field advantage. I compare The Bill's home scoring margin (the average points they win or lose by) to their scoring margins on the road since 2008 when we started playing at Chaifetz. The difference between the home and away numbers are the "real" home court advantage....the number of points the Bills are better at home than on a neutral court. I use only A10 games. This way I can compare similar SOS for home vs away. This doesn't tell you which are the toughest courts to play on or about crowd size or enthusiasm. It tells me how much better the Bills play at home compared to the road. So with that said...I show the Bills at 81st in home field advantage which is a pretty nice ranking. One of the the things that keeps our ranking a little lower is that we play pretty well on the road. In other words, teams that play well on the road don't have as big of an advantage as a team that plays poorly on the road. Their (the poor away teams) spread (their home court advantage) is much larger because they play poorly on the road. I personally would rather have a team that plays well at home and away even if it meant a worse home court ranking. I don't look at home court rankings...I look to see how well we play on the road. Do well on the road and the Fetz will take care of itself.

  4. This was misleading. The Doe Run offense has been a major part of basketball in the region just to the south of St. Louis. It has been stated that the coaching staff is looking for an expert of that style who can teach it to the team. Maybe as the backup point guard. Maybe as a walk on. The Doe Run is basically just a run and gun style where the point guard guns it down court, and three ‘Does’ get way out in front of the ball. Doe Run.

  5. Did UAB, Belmont and Auburn know about this before they came to Chaifetz last season and won.? Who was supposed to tell them?

  6. Since it’s KenPom, I’m sure it’s adjusted to account for opponent strength

  7. We do well at home, as we should but I've always wanted a multi year home winning streak, one that got at least into the 30s. Great teams pulls those off.

  8. There are also examples of dads who coached at the HS level who had son(s) who have been successful at the college level. Our own Travis Ford (dad Eddie) is an example. Danny Hurley is another example. Ray Meyer / Joey Meyer at DePaul is maybe the closest example of what is happening at Davidson. Ray coached 42 season (if I counted right) and then his son Joey took over after having been an AC under his dad for 11 seasons. McKillop has coached Davidson for, I believe, 33 seasons & his son Matt is taking over after having been an AC for 14 seasons. Joey Meyer was really successful during the first part of his career at DePaul: NCAAs in each of his 1st 5 seasons & 7 of his first 8 including 2 sweet 16s (NIT in the only non-NCAA season during that stretch). The wheels fell off a bit when DePaul joined the Great Midwest & then C-USA. He failed to make the NCAAs in each of his final 5 seasons & putting up an ugly 3-23 record in his final season. With hindsight Joey Meyer's drop off seems more to do with DePaul not putting resources into the program than any shortcomings he had himself. Bob McKillop really propped up the Davison program. He was largely underpaid & helped them to have success on a modest budget. Davidson will probably need to invest more into the program for his son to be successful even if his salary is still on the low side for A10 coaches.

  9. Make no mistake, this is a huge blow to the conference.

  10. Boom!!! I wish the retiring Coach McKillop well. It was a joy to watch his teams play. As for the A-10, I'm a little sad, he was a good coach and a quality guy. The conference took a bit of a step back.

  11. I've heard that a large group of 50-year-old women will be staging a protest against SIUE's mascot, followed by drinks at Brio in Frontenac afterward.
