I’m behind still 7 min to half. That Anderson give and go was not off. Not even a hand. The defender on the near side had him on by half a yard. Not even that close.

Yeah, I agree with you and so does Bill McDermott. Got hosed on that call.

I paused exactly as the ball left the foot of the passer. The near side defender easily keeps him on side.

Caught it on ESPN+ last night. WOW, did they look dominant! The offensive passing looked like Brazil (alright  I am exaggerating) but it was very good. Great goalie in Abonnel. Compared to when I watched them last year at Lipscomb, night and day.

Good to get the win and get that seven game losing streak off our back.  Nice Top 10 win too.

Cagey game a bit.  Not a ton of offensive chances by each team absent the six or so corner kicks by SLU.  Maybe 8 shots for SLU and 6 for Indy.

Indy had better possession for much of the first half….long stretches working across the back within our half.  But nothing came of it really as SLU stayed well organized.  SLU attacked a lot by lofting balls forward for Wrobel to flick to a streaking Andersen.  Indy pressed us higher when we had possession, leaving limited gaps between the lines   SLU played more of a low to mid block when out of possession.

SLU started with much the same starting lineup vs Evansville.  Didn’t play as many as they did in exhibitions.  Kid that stood out to me was the freshman, Drake Fournier, who started second half and finished the game.  Did not look at all out of place at the 6/8 position.  Sellers played decent minutes.  No Delkus or Moore.

Luis made the first goal happen.  Again relentless type of player who worked hard to slip by his defender to slot the ball to Wrobel for the first goal.  Thiago is fun to watch too….his tackling ability is very, very good.  Need to get 90 min out of him though.

PK save was awesome.  Indy was looking for something in last 10 minutes and grabbed  a pk after Max (?) got his arms around forward before all fell.  Great save in a key moment.

Max F…..my God can that kid get up.  He should win every header sent his way.  He and Mayer solid center back combo.

SLU looked even to Indy which says a lot.  Key is finding that rhythm in the attack….something akin to Becher/Klein a few years ago.  Pieces are there but need more games to get guys working with each other seamlessly.

Absent those damn horns, a good night.

SLU 2 Indiana 0

Indiana is a very experienced team. They have 5 starters, and 7 players from the 2022 NCAA Tourney game vs SLU.

Two very familiar, and very similar
4-4-2 formations.

SLU dressed 19. A few were unavailable.

SLU was sharp, efficient, and they were rewarded with an early lead. Chances to  tack on throughout the 1st half, but SLU found a 2nd goal early enough in the 2nd for a pretty comprehensive 2-0.

The ref, George Major, was the same ref who struggled the night before in the Women’s game. And he didn’t like IU’s defensive midfielder, Patrick McDonald, at all. Gave him a card early, and he later called him for the foul impeding Seth on SLU’s set piece 2nd goal.

You will take pace forwards  vs center backs, isolated in space 1v1 almost every time with center backs. Lara vs the true Freshman Lindimore, was a welcome to college moment. Elliott, the Louisville transfer took a chance pressing high on the wing pressing Townsend, and, he wasn’t quick enough to recover. Lara slots one to Seth, shot blocked, rolled to Wrobel for the finish.

SLU had 14 touches in a row prior to Lara’s 1v1 on the left side. From winning 50/50 midfield balls, to building the right side, swinging it back to the left side. Most were 1 or 2 touches.

A few combination opportunities with Seth and Tanner. Wrobel had a high level chance off of a corner. Wrobel and Tanner are an example of the 2nd year of the player development system. Fitness, sharpness. Carlos others. Much more needed pace now than before.

Carlos was moved around all over the place out pf need last year, for example. But he’s a right back. Floriani played outside back, defensive midfield, before settling in at center back, etc….

And then you had more speed and pace with a few experienced transfers, (most of SLU’s transfers were on campus this past Spring) SLU has several promising Freshman, that will be given the time to develop. The Biggest jump is often year 1 to year 2 as a Freshman or transfer.

Max Floriani is a testament to the Redshirt system. Sit your first year, play 3 of need the next 2 years, and finish it oft as one of the better center backs nationally.

IU has an experienced attacking group, but they didn’t get enough from it combined with their transfers and promising Chicago Fire Freshmen. Sometimes it’s not how many players you lose, but which ones, to disrupt cohesion. IU is talented, and they’ll win a lot of games.

Maher, and Redmon enjoyed success against their former team. 37 appearances for Redmon, and 85 for Maher at Indiana. Maher was drafted 1st pick of round 2 in the MLS Draft this past season, And he’s been a vocal leader in back since the Spring.

And a good IU experience for Sellers, as his mom was a former stand out player and assistant coach for the Indiana’s Women’s team.

Fournier is not a surprise as a very active, skilled, and athletic central defender. He was the Top Drawer Soccer pick as SLU’s most impactful preseason Freshman.

And, in order to be successful you have to have a 2nd 11. SLU has that at every position without missing a beat with the first group this season.

Late game personnel tweaking by SLU, for more pace defending.

Good start.
