I’m not sure being on some European team and not playing helps a players career as much as playing somewhere, despite how much it helped a players bank account.  With the rise of MLS, and MLS starting to pay more, the money gap has become less, so maybe American players playing more in the US instead of heading overseas will happen more and more?

I’m going to have to take back a lot of what I said. Despite Tim being under contract with Fulham until 2025, his appearances for Fulham have gone down in recent years. He appeared 47 times for a Fulham in the 21-22 season, 35 times in the 22-23 season, and only 18 times in the 23-24 season. Tim is now 36. This has the normal career path of someone in the Premier League who’s club has decided has past it’s prime and they want to move to someone else. I’m sure he has a few good years left in the MLS. This is not an example of someone still in their prime in the Premier league moving over to MLS.

Yeah man...Dude's a year older than me, maybe he's just ready to come home. He's also been excellent as the elder statesman on the USMNT roster, he will be great at the same role in Charlotte.

The beauty of a loan deal for Ream is that his salary will stay the same and he'll play more.  36 is the end of a career unless you're a goalie.

Probably a good deal for Charlotte as they likely pay a % of the salary and Fulham pays the rest.  Plus they get a USMNT player that helps with publicity.

ESPN reporting Tim Ream to Charlotte on loan.   This is a bit surprising.   Everything he said prior to the WC was that he wanted to play a couple of more years in the EPL before retiring.     Wish him the best in Charlotte.     Not too far a drive for me, maybe I will go see him play.     Saw him play at Fulham at in 2018

You won’t see this, but the Athletic says it is a transfer not a loan.

The bigger question is why City SC didn’t claim him.

Lutz wanted to replace the current CB's with younger players, going 6 years older would not be in line with that

I wonder if they made a move to get him before Parker, I wonder how much the delay in the inaugural season affected that. A lot of the first signees played MLS2 the first year? I would imagine a guy of Ream's status just couldn't go from EPL to CITY2

ya I wonder if they tried for Ream first, but at the time Ream was playing near or at his top level.   Even with Reams age, I'd still have tried to get him here.

Lowen took the corner.  Hartel on the pick, which was pretty special and made the play work.  Brilliant play all around.  This link only take you to the MLS scores page.  Click on the highlights tab for the City game.  Becher's goal is the 4th clip.

I stand corrected. Thanks

OMG reading/watching some the responses online from the Fulham fans and players this morning.   They loved that dude!   If Fulham named a bar after Brian McBride in their stadium...maybe a Ream statue???  :)

Simon Becher gets another goal for St Louis City, it was the 3rd goal for City on the night, City won 3-1. John Klein got in late in the game.

Klauss may have trouble getting his job back.  Lowen had an insane 106 touches along with two assists.

From Omaha twitter    SLU 1, Omaha 0

Exhibitions are mostly about playing as many players as possible, and trying some different things. With that said. 1-0 SLU (Floriani) and 4-0 SLU after the extra 30 minutes. SLU likes to play an extra session sometimes in exhibition games, especially on the road.

I know others will have a more thorough analysis but here are some observations.  If anything is wrong, I apologize to the soccer gods in advance.

We played a lot of guys and it showed with a lack of cohesion at times and difficulty imposing ourselves on Evansville.  To be sure Evansville seemed to keep their main guys out there for much of the game and certainly pressed us in the second, which affected our play.  Evansville seems to be pulling a Marshall with so many foreign players.

I don’t note the number of players SLU used as a bad thing; it does show we have a ton of real depth.  Finding how that depth will be used effectively is a next step.

Goals:  SLU scored within the first 15…one by Anderson I think and new Mexican forward (Luis?).  Goals were more of the counter version.  Gave up a free kick to lower left post before halftime.  Second half offensive action was a bit lacking.  SLU did not control the second half as Evansville pressed and rarely did SLU keep ball for long stretches or within Evansville’s half.

Starters:  French kid in goal, Redmon, Maher, Floriani and Leatherman across back   Thiago and Brogan at 8 and 6.  Anderson and transfer from Temple out wide.  Wrobel and Luis switching between 10 and 9.  This group appeared the most polished as a group.

Freshman:  Delkus and Sellers came on at wing in first half.  Good size kids.  Delkus will be one they trust to take guys on 1v1.  Clear confidence with him.  More guys played last night but don’t have much to say.  It did appear the freshman were getting acclimated to the speed and physical part of the game which is normal.

Transfers:  Thiago….beast, physical, tidy…clearly a 25 yr old playing against 20 yr olds.  Luis….not sure if this makes sense, but he was like a combo of David Graydon and Dipsy….relentless player….will be fun to watch him. Temple kid was solid as well.

No Marcus Moore but I left with 10 to go.  He was dressed and warming up early on.  He was a top recruit but injury last year set him back.

All I got.  Can’t wait for Indy.

A10 men's soccer appears to be pretty strong in the top half based on first week results so far.

VCU beat #15 Wake Forest 2-1.
Fordham tied #17 Hofstra 0-0.
Dayton blew out Detroit 5-1.
Rhode Island shut out St. John's 2-0.

Mixed results beyond those:
Loyola (got some first place preseason votes) lost 1-0 at Michigan.
UMass tied Siena 0-0.
Davidson plays Charlotte tonight.

With 4 teams splitting preseason first place votes, there could be a lot of parity in the league. Promising to see mostly positive outcomes so far. SLU has a huge opportunity tonight against the #7 team in the country.
