TheChosenOne
On message boards, you're either offering or not taking the kid seriously. There is no middle ground. I don't think anyone believes that, but those in the know have also said that Jordan Goodwin has expressed some frustration with not being offered by SLU, so I think that is what has people (me for one) questioning our recruiting of him. Maybe, but there's something to be said for making an offer seem valuable. Mizzou and Illinois are carpet-bombing the region with offers for 2017 kids right now, and I'm sure the kids see that (and possibly not as a positive). When you recruit someone hard and for a long time and then tell him he's earned the offer that took a while to come that likely means more than getting a call from Kim Andersen and 5 minutes into the conversation being offered a scholarship. It's a different approach and time will tell which works the best.

It would be different if SLU had 5 or 6 offers out there and he wasn't one of them, then I can understand being frustrated. However, if SLU is still recruiting him just as hard as every other school and he gets our 2nd or 3rd offer in the 2017 class, I would think that would have more meaning then being the 7th or 8th offer in Mizzou's 2017 class so far and one out of the 14 Illinois has out there. It's a different approach but I don't think a kid would hold that against a school that they want to watch him develop more and build a relationship before just offering him. There has been some good info coming from that Billikensblog website recently.

Mizzou and Illinois are carpet-bombing the region with offers for 2017 kids right now, and I'm sure the kids see that (and possibly not as a positive). Which players with offers from Mizzou and Illinois would you say are reaches? For Mizzou, I see their 2017 offers with "local" ties as being Michael Porter (Columbia), Trae Young (MOKAN), Jordan Goodwin (Althoff/Eagles), Wyatt Yess (Parkway West/Gateway), and David Sloan (Eagles) with 8 total offers out to the 2017 class, not sure that is so extreme that it would make an offer from them seem meaningless. I don't want to have the same argument we had the other week, so I won't continue it, but put me in the corner of not understanding why we haven't offered Jordan Goodwin since I would bet considerable money we will eventually offer him (similar to Tyler Cook). If we need more time to evaluate kids like Goowin and Cook in order to extend an offer then the coaches need to work on expediting their evaluation process. 3star_recruit
It's ironic that Arkansas is as strong as anybody with Cook and they were one of the last to offer.

Yeah, I think that was the one that surprised me. I don't think they had even been discussed as a program actively recruiting Tyler either, so the in-home visit must have gone really well. Arkansas is really expanding its presense in St. Louis in general, I guess if you are looking to attend a crappy state school you might as well go to a SEC one. I didn't call them reaches, but 8 offers for 3 spots for kids that are just finishing their sophomore years probably doesn't make players 6-8 on the list feel like they are priorities. There is a balance to these things and I'm definitely not in the camp that we should only offer the exact amount of scholarships we have available, but just throwing offers out to throw offers out probably isn't the best process either. 3star_recruit
Nice writeup on SLUH combo guard Brandon McKissic based on his play at the Nike Memorial Day Classic. Glad SLU started recruiting him early: http://hoopseen.com/index.php/news/headlines/item/3195-nikemdc-top-performers-part-ii McKissic drew a lot of attention this weekend with his ability to score the ball from either guard position. He has a burst of speed that gives him the ability to get out in transition where he can finish in a variety of ways and is not afraid to draw contact. In the halfcourt, he showed that he can shoot it from the perimeter as well as get into the paint whenever he wants to, causing all kinds of problems for the defense. Bills_06
Goodwin has told us this regarding not having a SLU offer: "I mean I'm kinda upset, but I'll wait." Well you don't like to read that. Hopefully though an offer will be coming soon and it will be forgotten. He also told you that SLU is one of the schools recruiting him the hardest, right? At least they are keeping in contact. Will you have a blog with more quotes from him or is that basically it? Either way, good work on getting some info from him.

The only other thing of note that he said is that he'd like to play the 2 in college and is working on developing his outside game.
3star_recruit
6'5 combo guard Nickeil Walker, a Canadian import that plays for St. Louis Christian, has several high major offers as well. There's been virtually no talk about him on this board because SLC plays a national schedule and plays very few local games. He's probably the top local guard prospect, followed by McKissic and then Goodwin. If Goodwin can develop an outside game, that order could change. The exposure of St. Louis Christian locally is almost zero. I saw them play once last year in a tournament. I guess their academics are on the up and up but I can't say for sure. Also they get so many imported kids from all across the country I'm not sure what if any advantage SLU has in recruiting their student athletes. Bills_06
Here is a video of Goodwin talking about his spring and recruiting. Mentions basically same thing Billikensblog posted that Indiana, Creighton and SLU are recruiting him. I did find it funny when asked what he liked about Illinois, all he really had was it is his home state. Let's hope we will be giving an offer soon. http://www.prephoopsillinois.com/news_article/show/520307?referrer_id=1156205
