Roy has gotten into a lot of arguments with other posters on this board in regards to his views on RM. That is a fair and valid observation. I am sure he is willing to admit that his views on Majerus are not shared by the large majority of those on this board. He has gotten into many, many heated discussions about Majerus with many others on this board.

But, here is the catch...he seems to be able to still have other, non-Majerus related discussions with those same people that disagree with his Majerus and Sodie views. And able to discuss other subject with them in a civil tone. You mentioned slu72, skip and MB as people that share certain political beliefs with Roy but have gotten into heated discussions with him due to his RM views. And this is true. But he has also been able to have many other discussions with these same people without harsh feelings rising up, where they can come to agreement and have a healthy discourse.

This is not true with you, ACE. It is apparent that you have issues with Roy that you aren't able to let go. You tend to try to bring up RM and BS with Roy, even when the discussion doesn't have anything to do with that. You are always looking to egg him on, frustrate him and get into an argument. It almost seems like the sole purpose is just to remind people that he was wrong on BS and RM, as a way of making anything Roy says seem illegitimate. At least that is how I see it, because I only see you trolling Roy for an emotional reaction, not to ever actually engage him in any real discussion.

Yes, many people have issues with Roy's views on BS and RM, and it can be frustrating. But, it seems to me like you have issues with Roy as a person. And you should at least own up to that.

roy recently dragged my name into a thread and took a gratuitous shot, so he is hardly an innocent victim. There are plenty of examples of him being less than "civil." He does plenty of his own "egging on." The funny thing is, since RM passed away, I haven't tangled much at all with roy... only when he has occasionally tried to dredge up his anti-RM crusade.

Nobody has been able to support his claim that shots at roy are due to his political views. He is trying to rewrite history. You correctly point out that most of it stems from his blind support of Sodie, followed by his sometimes unfair and off-base criticism of RM. IMO, there was sometimes a hypocrisy over the way he treated the Sodie critics, but later would take shots at the program under RM and that is what I would call out.

Who gets to define "respect"? I can be plenty disrespectful without using foul language. And I can offer a great deal of respect through use of colorful words. I understand the basic premise of being respectful, and I imagine most of us are on board with the concept, but to legislate the manner in which I am allowed to express myself is silly. That IS censorship.

If I choose to post a picture of a fully clothed (more or less) Oregon cheerleader, damnit, I'm going to do it.

Here is the thing, though. This board IS censored. Why do you think there are moderators? Or that Steve utilizes word filters in the program? It is to censor what is being said on here. If there is a wholly inappropriate comment made, or a NSFW-type photo posted, the moderators will remove it. If they feel a thread has gotten too heated, or spun too far out of control, they will lock it to prevent any further conversation on that topic. That, in a word, is censorship. And that is what occurs on this board.

Now, in regards to saying and posting things that are within the parameters of the censorship limits of this board, but still may offend other members of the board, my suggestion is the same as I posted above. Instead of someone asking the board as a whole to 'tone it down' or be 'respectful', the best thing to do is to truly engage the person you feel is being offensive. Let him know that you think he has said/posted something you find offensive, and why you find it so. That is how you can sense the limitations of certain people, how you can have a purposeful conversation, and how you can gain a mutual respect with your peers on this board. And if you don't see eye-to-eye with that person? Well, at least you know exactly where you both stand.

All I'm saying -- and other people also are pointing this out -- is that you seem to hold grudges and take shots at people for a long time, even deviating off the current topic to do so.

I don't hold grudges. I forgive you for siding with the Mizzou trolls while scolding me. I know I was on the right side of history. Steve helped flush them out of here and the board is a much better place for it.

All reasonable points.

if a cheerleading uniform is acceptable for the general public, I'm pretty sure it's acceptable for fringe top 25 basketball team forum.

I'm not sure it's the pic as much as the comments that follow.

One problem with the cheerleader pictures is that many read the forum at work, if reading a random seemingly SFW thread, and a cheerleader pic pops up, may create an awkward situation.

One solution is to require using spoiler tags on some questionable pictures, e.g.

More generally I think the larger question is how to handle two audiences. Probably since the Soderberg era, the average age of posters has likely only declined. I think with Majerus, and the program becoming a little more prominent, a younger audience joined.

This younger audience approaches Billikens.com differently than the older one, and with this, I think some of the older audience has left (or at least stopped posting but keeps reading). I know I have received some grumbles offline from some of the more old-time posters about some of the younger ones. But how to balance this is tricky since each brings something to the site. For example in terms of recruiting, think of Pistols' recent efforts scouring the twitterverse as a new version of tseugnekillib. And I will admit, I personally love Jimbos posts but agree too many people trying to be Jimbo like. It can be amusing in doses, but not throughout.

Regarding censorship, yes any moderation is censorship. But I think I leave a fair amount of slack on the leash - perhaps too much - and don't see it as too much of a request to try to discourage language on the forum that you would not say even casually to a stranger sitting next to you at Chaifetz.

Yeah, I don't think it would be unreasonable to require marking threads or require spoiler tags for NWS content. It's what most other places do.

That's about right. You have the old school fans who remember curfews for Gries and spending weekends baking cookies with the priests while paying $200/semester for tuition....and you have us younger guys that spents $20k/semester and went balls to the wall. After re-reading the cheerleader posts, they aren't all that bad. Maybe a little personal...but so be it. As if the older guys are sitting there at Chaifetz during halftime thinking "wow, these young student athletes are wearing camo booty shorts. How fashionable and creative!!!"

In a nutshell. Maybe the focus was too much on tuition cost, but more should have been about the changing of the times.

1)People don't say oaf anymore. I'm highly offended.

2)Culture changes. I mean, you guys went to college pre-Internet porn and cell phones.

3)relax people. This is the age where you can have sideburns, loosen the old necktie up, maybe have a cold schlafly instead of a neat whiskey. Have fun, talk so long as it's good natured. The guys who were talking about the cheerleaders...who cares? They are hot. If you don't think a college aged cheerleader is hot, then those are your own demons.
