kshoe Posted September 13 Posted September 13 Saw this note in Dan Caesar's column today. Not sure I fully understand what it really means: https://www.stltoday.com/sports/column/media-views/chiefs-off-to-big-start-in-st-louis-tv-ratings-but-no-match-for-presidential/article_2713cdfe-6c91-11ef-aa17-533a32661e90.html#tracking-source=home-top-story Billikens move to Matrix The Missouri Valley Conference is moving the portion of its TV package of men’s and women’s basketball telecasts that in the St. Louis market had been shown on Bally Sports Midwest to Matrix Midwest. That’s the recently rebranded outlet owned by KMOV (Channel 4) parent company Gray Media that is being pointed toward become a sports hub. It recently began carrying several programs about Missouri football, and management would like to eventually air Cardinals and/or Blues games. St. Louis University is affected by the development, although the schedule of its games that will be shown on Matrix has not yet been announced. Although Matrix has even more cable/satellite distribution problems than does Bally Sports Midwest — the only such operation carrying Matrix is Spectrum/Charter, on Channel 182 — unlike BSM it is also available over-the-air (on Channel 32). The deal covers stations in 22 markets Gray is in across Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky, Indiana, Iowa and Tennessee and also some third-party outlets outside Gray’s coverage area. “In the ever-changing landscape of live-event production and distribution, the Missouri Valley Conference remains committed to navigating the best path to reach college basketball fans, and this partnership with Gray does just that,” MVC commissioner Jeff Jackson said in a statement. OkieBilliken Posted September 13 Posted September 13 I assumed they would also be simulcast on ESPN+ BLIKNS 1 Quote
Bay Area Billiken Posted September 13 Posted September 13 I hope the games will be on ESPN+. If they're not on Bally Sports MW or ESPN+, the many out of the region out of towners like us might be in the dark. I hope not. Dan Caesar's article does say the MVC has deals with ESPN, et al. So hopefully the ESPN+ part will continue. We have watched the SLU home games on Bally Sports Midwest via DirecTV, have ESPN+ for some road games. We've been spoiled, fortunate. I watch SLU home soccer games and some road games on ESPN+. Quote

juniorbill76 Posted September 13 Posted September 13 I'm confused. Does he think SLU is in the MVC now? Quote
White Pelican Posted September 13 Posted September 13 I just clicked on the link above and it appears that part about the Billikens has been removed. Also, the paragraph headline doesnt say Billikens Move to Matrix but MVC Moves to Matrix. Quote
Old guy Posted September 13 Posted September 13 This may not apply to most of you but for those who were issued this coverage it may make it a lot easier to watch Bills games for free on TV. Spectrum sent me an email telling me I was going to receive Disney+ and Paramount Essentials free of charge. I had to apply directly as a client of Spectrum TV and sign in as a principal account holder with Spectrum TV to get to receive the Disney and Paramount coverages but it works, and the charges are taken care of by Spectrum. Disney+ has a lot of sports coverage that I did not have before including ESPN+. Those of you paying for ESPN+ and using Spectrum TV may be able to drop the payments and transfer the charges to Spectrum. You might want to check this out, it may save you some money if you are covered by this Spectrum coverage. Quote
thetorch Posted September 13 Posted September 13 Does this mean that horrible girl won't be calling the games this year. If so ++. AGB91 1 Quote

Lord Elrond Posted September 14 Posted September 14 I think someone got confused when they wrote this initially, this looks like it only applies to the MVC Quote
kshoe Posted September 14 Author Posted September 14 2 hours ago, Lord Elrond said: I think someone got confused when they wrote this initially, this looks like it only applies to the MVC Agreed. The simple explanation is that Dan Caesar thought the Billikens were in the MVC, nobody caught it when it was published and someone figured it out at some point and edited it. Good old Post Dispatch. thetorch Posted September 15 Posted September 15 I believe he assumed since the Billikens also host games on Bally's that they would be leaving the network as well. Not sure where our games will be aired. Quote
Slufan10 Posted September 18 Posted September 18 We need a Billikens live pregame and postgame like the cards and blues!! Quote

I remember on Saturday nights they used to do a full post-game show from Charlie Spoon's restaurant in Union Station. I think one time Bob Huggins came by after a game. That was fun. slu72 Posted September 19 Posted September 19 I was living in Ohio, but at night we could pick up KMOX. I listened a few times to the Spoon show. It really should have been called Spoonball on Cards Baseball. He talked more about the Cards than he did the Bills. But no coach ever put more asses in the seats than Charlie. Losing him was Biondi’s biggest faux pas and, with the exception of Rick’s tenure, cost the program its best shot at being in the Beast. Quote
Old guy Posted October 24 Posted October 24 I do not know if this is any help or not regarding TV coverage. This is what I found out watching an NBA game tonight. Bally Sports apparently has been taken over, or at least in partially taken over by something called "Fanduel Sports Events." Fanduel is a betting company that carries sports events on TV. I looked superficially on it and they do carry college basketball games. I have no idea if they will carry SLU games or not. However, they do carry at least some of the college basketball games that were carried by Bally's. I thought that at least some of you might be interested. almaman 1 Quote

The Bally’s naming agreement expired, so Fanduel is paying for the naming rights. Had to be approved by the bankruptcy court since that bankruptcy is still playing out. It should have what Bally’s used to have, with the exception of the Cardinals. They rejected the current rights agreement in bankruptcy court, hoping to get the Cardinals (and a bunch of other MLB teams) to agree to be paid less than they were. Cardinals have rejected it publically, but they are apparently still talking. We’ll see what the final solution is. Quote
Old guy Posted October 24 Posted October 24 Thanks Lord Elron that adds a lot of information to my post. Quote
slu72 Posted October 26 Posted October 26 Just went to ESPN+ to see if Santa Clara game was listed yet. It wasn’t. WBB v Drake was listed for 11/07. I thought this game was arranged by ESPN. Any reason why it wouldn’t show up on upcoming events? Quote

TheA_Bomb Posted October 26 Posted October 26 I was a late cable cutter due to sports. At first it was nice and cheaper now finding the game you want to watch is work. As long as it's on ESPN+, I'm good. Future of all this? In game betting options in the streaming app. Quote
slu72 Posted October 26 Posted October 26 The Wichita State game is on Peacock. $7.99 / mo. I’ll sign up for a month then cancel. Renew in Jan and treat it like a pay for view game. You Tube TV is a whole different animal. It’s like Sling but more expensive. Quote
