-expected seed? granted we will know at noon tomorrow

I would hope and expect SLU to be treated as a top 20 or better team with its seeding.

There are some.schools who won their league or league tourney in the fall. There are some other schools that have been able to get some wins against some top level teams in the Spring.

Anything within the top 20 would be fair for SLU.

#15 Seed, and a first round bye!  Well done ladies!  We await the winner of Washington and Liberty - with the #2 seed North Carolina in the same quadrant.

SLU received one of the top 16 seeds in the NCAA Tourney. This advances SLU to the 2nd Round without having to play a game. That's a big accomplishment. SLU finished as a top 20 team with a 6 RPI going into today.

Round of 32 matchup will be Washington or Liberty. Washington has had a lot of experience with tourney teams, UCLA, Arizona St. Colorado, and some other non-tourney teams. They played 6 games vs NCAA Tourney teams, all of which were in the Spring.

They were able to get a 1-1 draw with Arizona St. on the road and later defeated Washington St. with 18 seconds left. This 2nd game is what propelled them into a weekly top 25 team.

UCLA, USC, and Arizona St. were preseason expected NCAA Tourney Teams. Washington St. and Cal were in the mix but faded. Colorado was able to get a spot. Stanford, an annual dominant NCAA Title team, had a rare down season. Washington is a defensive oriented team that has had several late game heroics.

Liberty. I have seen some of their opponents, such as Lipscomb or Kennesaw St. etc...they will be an underdog vs Washington.

SLU's draw is fair. Any Round of 32 game is going to be against a top 25 type of team much of the time. We'll focus on UNC, Loyola Chicago, Denver when that time comes.

SLU will have a very winnable Round of 32 game to advance to the Final 16. Against a UDub, getting an early goal, forcing Washington to open up a bit would be the ideal scenario for SLU.

Liberty has a 2-0 loss to VCU.

The draws the past two years have been rough, but I feel like SLU was given some respect this time. I don't mind the draw at all. UNC is obviously tough, especially with the tournament taking place in their home state, but the 15-seed overall is a nice achievement in and of itself. One win puts SLU in the third round, which would officially be the deepest the program will have ever made it in the NCAAT.

Full bracket.

And a 5-3 loss to Virginia Tech. It would take an upset, but possible for Liberty.

SLU was rewarded for dominating its league and league tourney in the Spring. And, a big and, getting that 3-1 win at Arkansas early putting them out there. A draw or win vs Oklahoma St. could have bumped SLU up a little more to avoid UNC.

But 15th National Seed is very strong for SLU.

-good work, Ladies, keep it going!

-our first game will be Friday, April 30 at 6pm CT

-I hope a problem to have, but with how our team rightly addresses academics, let's have a long stay in North Carolina with no grade impacts - I guess a good thing about a team that is so young is some wouldn't be in their hard core major classes

Women's Soccer Rankings entering the NCAA Tourney:

SLU is 20 in the Coaches Poll, same as where they have been many weeks. Possible Rd of 32 opponent Washington is 24.

In the Top Drawer Soccer Poll SLU is 20 and Washington is 23.

SLU is 7 in RPI. RPI was not used this year in NCAA Bracket due to unique COVID-19 scheduling. (Non conference scheduling, Arkansas, Oklahoma St. were top level opponents. Xavier, Illinois St. and Indiana St. not as much.)

Hofstra was the only top 25 team in either poll to not make the NCAA Tournament.

The two biggest eye brow raisers were a couple of seeding issues. Penn St. was a top 5 team prior to its stunning conference tourney loss to Iowa. How costly was it? They were not a top 16 seeded team. They will have to get a win over Alabama St. to play 16 seeded Vandy, who seemed to be at worse a top 10-12 seed. Tough draw for both.

North Carolina gets the #2 seed, and, is ranked 2nd in the polls to Florida St.

Near NCAA Tourney misses besides Hofstra were Wisconsin, Butler.

Regional NCAA Tourney Teams of interest...Milwaukee, SIUE, Memphis, Vandy, Loyola Chicago, Oklahoma St., Arkansas,.Ohio St. Ole Miss..... .....Georgetown leads the non-regional like schools.
