ModelT
Ford says he wants St. Louis, Kansas City, the State of Missouri, the State of Illinois to be on their mind when choosing a school. Crews failed that in a miserable way. He wanted Tatum but it was all or none for him. Just consider this as a recruiting class: Jayson Tatum of Chaminade High School was just named the 2015-2016 Gatorade Player of the Year. He accept a scholarship at Duke, not St. Louis under Jim Crews. Tyler Cook, also of Chaminade, has signed to go to Iowa. Mikey Lewis, a guard at Chaminade, is expected to play at Duquesne. Hazelwood Central forward, Xavier Sneed, is playing for Bruce Weber at Kansas State. Jordan Barnes, CBC guard, has his sights set on Indiana State. ...and that is just nearby. Get it done, Coach Ford!

"Yo we finished in last place and may or may not have had some kind of physical altercation with a player while we failed at Army like 20 years ago"Totally different image without the despondent duo out there. prebilliken
Our attendance this year was down like 30% from 2014. In 2014 we outdrew UCLA and Oregon. And California. Average attendance was merely 1600 ish below 10k. Attendance collapsed because of the garbage product, not marketing failures. "When you lose you make other peoples' jobs harder" Travis will bring us back up to having 80-90% filled arena if he can get us winning again. Sell a good product. Well said, 2014 was an impressive year attendance wise... It could also be considered a little bit embarrassing as well though. Saint Louis Full info: Average Attendance Rank- 54, Total Games- 17, Total Attendance-143,278, Average Attendance: 8,428. This puts us above every school in the A10 except for Dayton (at 28, Daaaaammmmmnnn Dayton). It also puts us a spot above the be all, end all of Catholic Sports programs in Notre Dame. We were below xavier by a whopping 12 spots and 1,462 average attendees. 3 spots and about 300 people on average below Georgetown. Here is what I think is sad: For the duration of that season we were playing entertaining, winning, and Nationally relevant basketball, and on average we only had 79% of the listed capacity? That's tragic. And one thing I will say: I think the Ford Administration (that is what I am calling it) needs to outlaw the phrase "Please sit down" while inside the Arena... Its a basketball game. Nothing bothers me about our "blue hair" attendees more. I am so overjoyed that they are coming, but they need to understand that standing and cheering for elongated periods of time is part of the game of basketball. I'm rambling now, but I remember the VCU game in 2014, we didn't sit the whole game. That's how basketball games ought to be.

Get it done, Coach Ford! IMO, the key to making SLU great again would be to out recruit program like Iowa and K-State, which I think should be a realistic goal. I don't want to rehash the specific players on this list again, but getting players with offers from programs like Duke is typically going to be very unlikely and conversely, I'm not much interested in beating out the likes of Duquesne and Indiana State for recruits. That is a recipe for mediocrity, which I know would be an improvement over the JC era, but not what we should be aspiring to. I read Kelvin Lee chastising SLU for not landing the kid who is going to Duquesne - Ugh! We gotta be better than that. Players like Cook and Sneed are more of the level of recruit we will need to get back to competing with Dayton and VCU for conference championships. ACE
Syracuse, Duke, Northwestern, and.........DAYTON How is Northwestern so high on that list? I guess the same reason Penn State is on the list? I guess they just collect a bunch of Big 10 tv money and then don't reinvest it back in the program? South Florida?

I want to slap everyone who says "sit down" at a game, ushers should escort those low-energy fools to the concourse to watch the tvs. These are individuals who dont even have some kind of disavility preventing them from standing. Probably have turtles in their pockets. Is that why there were Crews defenders? He kept the fan base firmly seated? Agree about the glory of those standing-room-only VCU matchups, ill bring to your mind the memories of Steve Alford walking off the court while i pointed and screamed "hes leaving!" or the 25 point drubbing Romar got. Can we have that kind of fun again?
billikenfan05
The only thing I have a problem with as far as people standing is people walking up and down the stairs. I miss the first 5-10 minutes of each half.

majerus mojo
I've read worse things about outgoing coaches: http://m.tulsaworld.com/sportsextra/osusportsextra/john-klein--travis-ford--like-so-many-other-fired-coaches--getting/article_1074c087-a785-5e42-be74-ae2c58bf2736.html
moytoy12
Found this to be really refreshing: "Several influential high school and AAU coaches were in attendance and each spoke glowingly of the hire, noting there are many talented players in the St. Louis area that would like to stay close to home, and the energy Ford is bringing to the program could be pivotal in those players' decision to play at SLU." http://www.midmajormadness.com/atlantic-10/2016/3/31/11336744/saint-louis-university-chooses-ford

It is a two-way street. If they want SLU to be a good program, they should be encouraging the better players to take a serious look at SLU. Too often, they seem to be happy when the top players leave town for the bright lights, while looking at SLU as a nice little landing spot for second tier players. That's one of the many things I loved about RM. His priority was on landing talent, first and foremost, wherever it came from. He wasn't going to waste much time on local guys who thought they were too good for SLU. If some of those local guys would have bought and chosen SLU during the RM era, they would have had the opportunity to play in three NCAA Tourneys - I'm looking at you Connell Crossland. If you're not part of the solution of making SLU better, you're part of the problem.

Good post concerning attendance but before you go off on the 'blue hairs' you should consider how many of the younger alums don't support the program because if they did you would see a heck of a lot more in the attendance column. It is easy to throw the sarcastic comments concerning the 'blue hairs'...............you will be there some day sonny but in the mean time maybe you and other younger alums should spend some money supporting the program and don't worry about who stands or not. There is not an age restriction as to who can buy season tickets that I am aware of. In addition, maybe the student section could be a little fuller instead of only those nights when they offer free pizza or free BBQ.............. Have a nice day
