In all seriousness, if a top 50 player comes to SLU and as a freshman delivers 8 and 4, I wouldn't say he's doing really good or that the coach deserves a lot of credit for his development. I suppose I could eat my words next year with Carteare, but I expect more than 8 and 4 from him.

Coach said there are other teams playing 6 or 7 guys, but he thinks no one plays as hard as our guys do.  He is still running them hour, hour and a half in practice.  Today it was half court.  But have to practice crisply, with game speed and rhythm.  Still going live in practice. They guarded Duquesne's plays today.
Motto of Team Blue was started this year.  They have what Team Blue means on paper.  Team has really bought into playing for Team Blue.  Adversity has made these guys stronger as Team Blue.  Every single player has to play their role.  Rammer said it is tangible that the players are working together, unselfish, for the good of the team.
Dayton game - Coach wasn't happy with how they started, but then in the middle of the first half, the defense picked up and lead to an offensive surge.  They hit a wall in the second half.  Arena was very hot and the team couldn't find the second wind as they usually do.
GW game -  Coach said in previous five games they were averaging in 83 ppg.  We held them to 53.  Great team defense.  It was clear GW had targeted French, 'not going to let French beat us'.  The double team caused problems early, but then French started kicking it out.  At half Coach drew up 3 to 4 plays that they never ran, before even in practice.  It was about spacing and positions.  They ran only one of them but it worked.  They stopped doubling French and he went to work.  Coach said GW had to get out of the double team as they were behind.  They had to come out to guard in order to win, and got out of trying not to loose with the double.  Coach said Johnson's best play with the tip in on the weak side rebound.
Assistant coaches in the A10 talk alot.  When they come in they say Billikens are physically a tough team to play.  Teams know it will be a physical battle when they play the Bills.
Seniors Hines, Anthony and Roby were on next. [Haters can stop reading.]  Hines talked to other players about walking on.  He was promised no time and no scholarship.  He came to SLU for the education and because it was home.  Ford didn't know any of his new players when he came on board, but remembers seeing Hines in the gym all the time.  He was winning all the conditioning drills continuing to prove himself.  Coach is on Hines pretty hard - he is trying to get Hines mad as he knows Hines will play harder when he is angry.  Really enjoys Hines work ethic.  Hines response;"yeah he makes me mad a little bit."   Rammer said Hines is a clinic for on-ball defense.  Hines - defense is a mentality.  Ford - Hines is one of the tougher guys he has ever coached; he will stick his nose in there.   Hines wants to look overseas next season, but then maybe coach.
Anthony came here because he fell in love with the City on his visit.  Coach said they were looking at 3 or 4 guys for the final scholarship.  Coach said he was the first selection putting the others on hold.  Brought Anthony in first and liked him enough to offer without bringing the others in.  Coach said Anthony is a perfect teammate.  He respects everyone in the locker room.  Playing time doesn't change his attitude at all.  Coach credits Anthony for winning the first Duquesne game.  Anthony clicked with Johnson and Roby initially.  In Higher Education Administration Master's program.  Going into work force next year as a counselor to kids.  Rammer asked how tough it is banging against French every day.  Great response from Anthony 'Ask him how tough it is banging against me."
Roby was next.  Rammer talked about his old man moves. Came here due to the Coaching staff and university.  "I came here and stuck with it."  Coach says it will be tough replacing Davell.  Coach relies on Roby to run the team, to be an extension of the staff onto the floor.  Roby wants to look at continue playing ball next year.  Not sure where.  Will graduate in May in Education with a minor in Sociology.  Wants to teach, coach or counsel kids.  Not sure if he was joking, but he said he might want to be an Athletic Director.
Rammer let the seniors talk about Ford.  The Coach Ford Look....eyes together, turns his back, kicks the ribbon board, pulls the player out, but then apologizes.  Anthony - coach comes from the heart.  Players really didn't want to roast Coach even when given the opportunity by Rammer.
Three great guys.  Three great Billikens.

Yikes ... I will do my best ....
If the above Hoosier situation comes true, and we have a six-way tie at 9 and 9, the records there between the six combined are this:
St. Joe's is 3 and 3; SLU is 4 and 3; Mason is 6 and 2; VCU is 3 and 5; Dayton is 3 and 4; and Richmond is 3 and 5.  In that mini-league, Mason wins and is the four.  Then you start over and eliminate the Mason games in the match ups.  The Joey's go to 3 and 1; SLU to 4 and 2; VCU to 2 and 4; Dayton to 3 and 4, and Richmond at 2 and 4.  That means the Joey's get five because .750 trumps .667.  Take the Joeys out and SLU is 2 and 2, VCU is 2 and 3, Dayton is 3 and 3, and Richmond is 2 and 3.  Dayton gets sixth because in the A10 rationale, a three-wins .500 record is better than our two-wins .500 record.  This leaves SLU, VCU and Richmond and SLU cops seventh at 2 and 1, leaving Richmond in eighth because of a season sweep of VCU making VCU ninth.
Summary;  if Hoosier's world comes true = Mason, St. Joe's, Dayton, SLU, Richmond, VCU.  I don't think La Salle beats the Joeys at Hagan.  If Mason wins at VCU, I don't see them losing at home to Richmond.  I don't see VCU losing at home to Mason.  And I didn't see Rhodey get SMOKED by 30 at HOME to the Joey's.  So again, buckle up ... Madness starst in February ..... like Christmas decorations in the malls in October.

Bet you wish you hadn't asked.   The following tiebreaker format is utilized for determining the seeding in the Atlantic 10 Men’s Basketball Championship:

    Two-Team Tie
    1. Head-to-head competition.

    2. Conference record of the tied teams based on winning percentage versus the highest
common opponent and proceeding down to the lowest common opponent, if necessary, until
    one team gains an advantage.

    a. All ties are broken in descending order.
    b. When arriving at another pair of tied teams, use each team’s record against the tied teams
as a group. When comparing records against a group of teams, the higher winning
percentage will prevail. In case of tied percentages vs. the team or group of 1.000 or
.000, the following shall apply: 2-0 is better than 1-0; 0-1 is better than 0-2.

    3. Coin toss.

    Three or More-Team Tie

    1. Head-to-head competition.

    a. Use each team’s record against the tied teams as a group rather than performance
against individual teams. When comparing records against a group of teams, the higher
winning percentage will prevail. In case of tied percentages vs. the team or group of
1.000 or .000, the following shall apply: 2-0 is better than 1-0; 0-1 is better than 0-2.

    2. If the above results in two teams remaining, the two-team tiebreaker is used.

    3. If more than two teams still remain, use the Conference record of the tied teams based on
winning percentage versus the highest common opponent and proceeding down to the
lowest common opponent, if necessary, until one team gains an advantage.

    a. All ties are broken in descending order.
    b. When arriving at another pair of tied teams, use each team’s record against the tied teams
as a group. When comparing records against a group of teams, the higher winning
percentage will prevail. In case of tied percentages vs. the team or group of 1.000 or .000,
the following shall apply: 2-0 is better than 1-0; 0-1 is better than 0-2.

    4. Draw lots.

NOTE: All ties will be broken in descending order. When arriving at another pair of tied teams while comparing records, use each team’s record against the tied teams as a group rather than the performance against individual teams. Once ties are broken, they remain broken throughout the tie-breaker process.

Really neat interview this morning with Anthony Bonner on the Press Box. He loved playing at Kiel with its atmosphere. He said he would choose it over Chaifetz.
Said it was ridiculous that SLU didn’t admit Craig Upchurch. He would have been the missing piece for the Bills to make the NCAA.
AB says Jordan is the best of all time, not Kobe nor LeBron. He guarded Jordan and says he would have been put on LeBron if they played at the same time. AB played @ 240 lbs. could have played at 250 but he said you had to be quicker in the 1990’s then now.
Frank asked if Larry Bird ever trash talked to him. AB said no “He let the ball going through the net do the talking.”
Talked about playing with the Knicks. Lot of respect for Pat Riley. Played with Oakley, Mason and Ewing. Wow. Tough team. They would practice 1 to 1.5 hours on game day, lift weights before and after games and ride the stationary if they didn’t get in enough minutes.
Talked about playing in Italy where the players were behind protective glass and there were armed guards in the aisles. People in the stands all smoked and there would be smoke hanging over the court.
When the Press Box posts the link it is well worth a listen.

It'd be a shame to derail DJ's welcome thread with an argument over which local 2019 kids are interested in SLU or not.

Roy, I don't normally take issue with you and assuming that Welmer doesn't return you can now get over your negative posts on anybody just because they were recruited by Crews.
Regarding your first two paragraphs, above, see Desmet's reply to you.  This isn't the Fall recruiting period when all players are in the recruiting pool.  This is the Spring period when few top players are unsigned and we desperately need guards-i think TF got someone to plug our need for Guard bodies when many are already signed elsewhere.
Regarding your extremely negative last paragraph, what is your problem?  I think you have said you have no inside info on the Goodwin situation with regard to his returning to SLU.  With that being the case I assume you, also, do not have any info on any of our other current players returning,  or with regard to Gordon, Thatch or Pearson.  Do you watch the current players go into the student section after games?  Do you not believe Goodwin is a man of his word?  Do you not pay attention to small things like French and Thatch replying to the Jacobs tweet in which he announced his intent to attend SLU?  Where are you picking up the "Don't count on them all coming back" position?
Who do you think is not coming or coming back?  Goodwin? French? Foreman? Bess? Johnson?  Do you really think Gordon, Thatch or Pearson is going to ask out of their LOI?  If so, why?  What is your basis for thinking that?  These guys all know we are loaded for next year.  Why would they even consider transferring to a school which might be facing NCAA sanctions due to the FBI investigation?
Lots of questions for you, but I don't think you really have any answers.  You are just mad at the SLU leadership, well so am I but I don't want the team and Ford to suffer.
Look I'm just as mad as anyone about the way the SLU leadership has handled the S2 situation, but I think Ford and his staff have done a great job in keeping the ship afloat and i think that they will continue to do so.
Get back on the wagon, we miss you there!

GW last 2 games have been against teams that don't play defense.  VCU is a D team on defense....Their philosophy has been ...do what you want , we will beat you on offense....That hasn't worked as well this year as their offense has not been what it has been in previous years.  Richmond shows an F on defense including the 11th worst in the nation on defensive FG% .    As for GW,  they have a kid (Ziegler) who doesn't play much but has come off the bench in the last 2 games to play more.  He shot 85% in the last 2 games (11-13) He would be one of the top shooters in the nation but hasn't played enough to show up in the stats (small sample size)
Meanwhile, you have the Bills who have one of the best defenses in the A-10 playing at home (where we do better)
Bottom line....GW is not that good offensively...HOWEVER....if you leave them alone ...they will score. I don't think we will leave them alone.  Again, the biggest concern will be our shooting....Which team shows up tonight ? ...The B- team shooting a decent slash or the poor shooting team that can't make 3's or FTs
I am planning on seeing the B- team that plays offense and defense.

The FBI should be spending more time and resources answering their Tipster Hotline and less on high school basketball players taking money and shoes from agents.
