jbizzle09
Officially stated as mutual parting of ways. Looks like they couldn't come to terms on a contract extension. One would think that Lavin won't be out of a job for long. Maybe Tennessee bound? Now just waiting for the responses that May should sh*tcan Crews ASAP and offer Lavin. slufan13
Whitesell was an assistant there right? He always seemed like a class guy and he knew his stuff when he was here so hopefully he finds a good job.

Bizziken
Apparently Barnes is on his way out at Texas, too...if true, at 60 I don't know how much more coaching he wants to do. But I could see Alabama or Tennessee as potential landing spots. Bama is offering $3 mil per, which is crazy money...and Shaka has already turned them down. http://247sports.com/Bolt/Texas-head-coach-Rick-Barnes-not-expected-to-return-36439238 Lots of potential big time coaching positions...Tennessee, Texas, Alabama, St. Johns...and perhaps Florida. Maybe Indiana. Maybe Kentucky if reports that Calipari wants to try to NBA again are true.

If your doing games there is a lot of travel. I doubt if the money is as good. Why do coaches like Rick and Pearl go back to coaching if the money was better on TV? Bizziken
If you are Marshall or Shaka do you take the Texas job or do you wait to see what happens at Kentucky? They can even wait for Syracuse in a few years. Or Indiana if Crean has another bad year. If Syracuse doesn't go with Hopkins that'll be an elite job opening. Why do coaches like Rick and Pearl go back to coaching if the money was better on TV? Because they miss being in on the action. Rick wasn't teaching anyone on tv. He was the student. Pearl loves the adoration. I heard he was treated like a God at TN and will be Auburn once he starts winning.

There isn't the insane expectations as some other schools, they will pay as much as anyone else and no school has better resources for athletics in the country. The Texas basketball job is as good as any in the country. Plus, Austin is a pretty great place to live. I am saying that as a guy who despises the Horns. slu72
Texas is far better than Cuse. You're not following a home grown legend HOF'er. You may think I'm crazy here, but I'd almost bet Calipari would leave KY for TX. He'd bring his recruiting magic there and have TX in the hunt for a national title by his second year. Texas is the 800lb sleeping gorilla of college sports.

I agree...I was just saying that they could wait for Syracuse or Indiana. The thing that Syracuse has over Texas is that it's a basketball school first and foremost (and has a better and more recent history). Texas is a football school, and football will always be #1 there. To some extent, expectations are lowered at UT because of that. For me personally, I see that as a positive, but if a coach has an ego and wants to be Big Man On Campus then it's highly relevant.

The City of Austin and no state income tax makes Texas a great job. Not to mention the school has it's own TV Network and the largest AD budget in the country. UT Football will be back soon but there's enough room for basketball too. The word I just saw yesterday is that the AD wants Barnes to make staff changes if he doesn't he's gone the source was 247sports writer linked from CBS Sports page. As to Franklin's it is the best but I'd recommend La Barbecue the sides are better the meat just as good and the line way way shorter. Salt Lick, I've only been to the 2nd location and I don't like it. Syracuse NY vs Austin TX? No contest, but I live in Austin so I'm biased. The original Salt Lick location is the Best Q I have ever had. It was a little bit of a drive, but it was great. Family style serving, too. I'm sure Texas will come a calling for both, but not sure either will take it. Marshall's stock is sky high and if he was going to move, I figure he'd go somewhere even more appealing. Meanwhile, large schools have already tried to get Shaka to move and he's rebuffed them. Seems doubtful that he'd leave for Texas.
