AnkielBreakers
With Festus Ezeli headed to Portland, my bet is that WR ends up at Golden State, which would be awesome. He would be a good fit in that system. He could get a ton of publicity, well, for a non-star. i think he is going to blow up wherever he goes next year. Happy for him. He made some really really obviously bad choices, but stuck with it, and somehow looks like he is on the brink of a break-through. Could be a great story. jimbofive
I don't think he's going to blow up. I think he's not that athletic or tall. For SLU, absolutely. For DAT LEAGUE... not really. But he seems to work hard and will be a decent role player somewhere. Hopefully GS.
almaman
whatever happened with the resigning for personal reasons stuff going on last season?
SLU_Nick
That is a really good situation for Willie though. He will be there to block shots and grab rebounds. That is sort of what Golden St was missing in the finals. With Bogut leaving, I am not really sure who GS has to put in the middle. Curry, Klay, Durant, Draymond....and Willie. The way that free agency is going lately, if he can get exposure with 95% of GS games on national TV and espn dedicated to being an all Golden St network, while playing defense/getting open dunks while NBA defenses leave him 100% unguarded, he might be one of the guys who ends up signing a 4 year, 40 million dollar deal. I hope Willie's agent realizes that...
Pistol
The Spurs, Heat, Thunder, Pacers, and Timberwolves are all also said to be in the running. Golden State makes sense as a desitination, though. Outside of their starters, they're going to have to fill out a roster on the cheap with guys just like Willie - affordable players who potentially fit well. Cowboy
-I would love it if Willie or any Billiken had an NBA career, but in Willie's case it seems to me that this..... whatever happened with the resigning for personal reasons stuff going on last season? ......would need to be settled before a GM is going to sign WR

Yes, the IndyStar has written that Larry Bird is considering Willie. But he looks to be maybe a third or fourth option, now that Bird picked up Evans from the Mavs. A shooter is high up on the Pacers list of needs. He's already done more in the NBA than I ever would've predicted, but if he is really the best Golden State can do next year I would expect them to "go small" and use Green as the 5 even more than they did last year. Especially if they actually insist on giving the undead corpse of Ray Allen minutes next year. Green is only a couple inches shorter than Willie and is probably as good or better a rebounder. Willie's role going forward pretty much has to be a defensive specialist/shot blocker, right?
AnkielBreakers
I can't believe people on this board are questioning WR's ability. He went head to head with Hassan Whiteside in college, and looked as good or better. He has manhandled people in the NBA. I have never once questioned his talent. He is 6'10" and can jump through the roof. He is surprisingly strong. He has a nose for scoring and defense. Just don't put him in a situation where he has to make a life decision when emotions are involved.

As for questioning his ability, I've been more Willie-friendly than a lot of people on here. But I don't see anyone other than you acting like it's an insult to call a guy an NBA-quality role player, especially a center who's that short. But if you're predicting All-Star selections and a starting role on next year's Warriors team, then yeah, I guess I'm questioning that. EDIT: I'm seeing some sources are now calling him 6'10" and even 6'11", which I find very hard to believe.
Old guy
I always liked Willie and hope he makes the best out of the opportunities he will be presented with. I have observed that in life success does not always goes to the very best, rather it goes to whoever can best manage his way through the choices and options available. I hope Willie does very well choosing among his options.

For-DaLove
Willie is 6'9. Not that it really matters. He has performed well in the NBA

And if he does it next year as a role player on one of the greatest teams of all time, instead of in garbage time minutes on a last place team (and then getting removed from the rotation), they'll be even more impressive. He could be a decent backup/shot blocker/rebounder playing 10 mins a game but not much more than that. His personal reasons for leaving an NBA team mid season tell me he is still very immature and wont get much money but I hope for the best. almaman
wow when he first had shot at NBA seems like consensus was that he may be able to hang around a bit. when he was here under coach ceiling was high but not "he's guarantee to be star on a championship team he chose over 4 other playoff teams to make millions" high. I'll be very satisfied with him just sticking with a team and play through a whole season myself but the better he does is better for us for sure. AnkielBreakers
No one said he will be a star. I think he can be like Festus Ezeli. Maybe like Hassan Whiteside on the high-end. A surprise player that puts up around 7 points and 7 boards in 10-15 minutes of play. That is someone who sticks in the NBA and makes 10-20 million eventually. I think he has that ability. thetorch
I don't know why we still have interest in this guy. He'll flame out. He's a borderline roster player. Smart move would have been to make money overseas. He's losing money trying to stick in the league without a guaranteed contract.

Band Legend
What a pile of crap! Maybe Willie was a young kid who got screwed by his friend's behavior. Maybe he was really bad at school. Obviously his biggest sin was letting Billikens Roy down. Really, people on this board have made fun of his intellect and maturity level for years, but you're still set on holding him to the same standards you would hold yourself to at his age. Unlike you, he has moved on and worked incredibly hard to get to this point. He's worked for peanuts in the d-league for years and grown up. He is the only Billiken the NBA and I am incredibly happy for him. He doesn't owe any of us anything.
Old guy
Agree the Willie Reed saga, finding his way into NBA against enormous odds, should be a cause of rejoicing for us. Everyone makes mistakes, Willie included. The fact that he has been able to advance through hard work should be taken as a success story, not as a cause of resentment against an 18-19 year old who made bad choices. Yes, even more important than Willie Reed figuring out his life is remembering that he let US down. Huh? I thought some things were more important than winning basketball games, Roy? You sound bitter. As to Torch - we have interest in him because he is the only Billiken that even has a chance at The League currently.
