I am going to try checking out on NBC/Peacock to see if they carry the game because my LG TV is out of order and I am using an older TV of a different maker I had in the house. And you didn't call me? Quote

Sorry, did not mean to offend you. By the way, I checked on Jomini, he was the man that wrote about Napoleonic warfare early in the XIX century (Ney supported his book). Napoleonic warfare dominated military thinking during the early phase of the Civil War, until it became obvious that mass attacks on fortified positions with plenty of artillery firing grape was a losing effort unless you were willing to sustain massive casualties. Cavalry was still a viable way to wage war at the time of the Civil War. Jomini's thinking and influence, as outdated as it was, lasted well until WWII. It heavily influenced the thinking behind banzai charges by massed Japanese against machine gun fire from fortified positions (obsolete since WWI). The combined arms theory was developed after Korea and is also rapidly becoming obsolete, as the use of tanks tanks is also becoming obsolete, by the massive use of cheap drones and missiles in Ukraine. Try reading McGregor for a more up to date use of armor. Keep in mind that Desert Storm Combined arms warfare is rapidly becoming obsolete in current warfare. Another author you should become familiar with is Arnold Toynbee with his "Study of History" This is an 11 book work with the last volume dedicated to maps. There are plenty of simplified versions of this work available that allow you to get a feel for what he is saying. He talks about societies and cultures in terms of how they are created, grow, become dominant and eventually fall; the issues they face and have to overcome, and their fall from prominence. The last stage before fall from prominence is a military stage that eventually runs out due to obsolete ideas. Check this guy out if you can. Quote

(Streameast dot to) was the proper way to find it, not some knockoff. (No honor amongst thieves ya know) NOW, however, or at least recently, the long arm of the law seems to have caught up with them. However, those guys are usually not down for long. I may or may not have used this one for baseball. The other one was provided by a poster on CardsTalk a few years ago. Try mlbbox dot me/ No guarantees. If it comes up, there are lots of options at the top of the screen, not just major league baseball. It's somewhat wonky sometimes, but the price is right. My only other complaint is no women's college ball. My only other, other complaint is I can't get it to load on my Firestick so have to watch on the laptop. TheA_Bomb Posted January 8 Posted January 8 Alaman I sent you my pirate of choice link, arrrrrrgh. OG, I'm kidding you don't have to call me. Waaaay off topic but Jomini's principles of war are still applicable with some changes on how they're implemented. We still focus on the enemy center of gravity and try to mass forces against it. However that center of gravity may no longer be a military unit and our massed forces or effort may not always be kinetic. For example in a COIN (counter insurgency) environment a non-state actor could be ran by a charismatic leader which could be the center of gravity, neutralize that leader by massing your efforts and you win. In LSCO (large scale combat operations) combined arms is back in a big way (it never left). Drones are important and just a part of combined arms. I don't think tanks are becoming obsolete we just haven't seen them used effectively lately by anyone besides the US in GW 1 or Israel in the Yom Kippur War. Ukraine only operates at to to a Brigade size, if they could operate at a Division level and employ combined arms operations, including proper use of tanks they could've made progress and breach Russian obstacles to take back their land. This is an excellent video I use to teach it. Keep in mind the US military hasn't done this since GW1 and then the position wasn't defended. What does this have to do with basketball? Well I do think a good coach has to have coup d'oeil. If anyone else needs that link message me I'll send it. Quote

I think Clausewitz and the Germans afterwards called the center of gravity the schwehrpunkt (not sure of the spelling). I think the elimination of heads or leaders of the opposing armies has been tried against Hamas and Hezbollah with total success in eliminating a succession of leaders, but no significant impact upon the armies they led before being killed. Stalin, in the 1930's basically eliminated most of the general corps of the Red Army with any connection to the prior Imperial Russian armies. Not only did it not work for him but almost allowed the Nazis to take Moscow which was the objective of Barbarossa. Can this be used in basketball? Sure, it is called an intentional foul. This can be used to neutralize the opposite team's offense by taking out their key person for the game. Dirty play for sure, but there is nothing illegal in warfare... Quote
Billiken Rich Posted January 8 Posted January 8 4 hours ago, OkieBilliken said: We are paying $19.99 for Peacock for the year, but I think that is an introductory offer. It has all of the English Premier League games which is nice. (Go Fulham!) It looks like it goes up to $79.99 annually for us in July so will have to make a decision then. @billikenfan05 is correct. Cord cutting is a myth if you want to watch live sports. But I have to say the very concept when I moved out of state around 2002 that there would be a way I could watch every Billiken basketball game, almost all our soccer games, and a significant amount of our other sports is still really cool, even if it comes with an ever-increasing price tag. Thought you were a Chelsie guy? Quote

Fulham always #1 due to their connections to SLU (Ream, McBride) and their owner is a Jacksonville dude who also owns the Jaguars. Chelsea was my first EPL match I attended so I always root for them as well. The stadiums are located about 4 miles from each other in West London. Quote

sonoma bob Posted January 9 Posted January 9 Peacock sucks, cut off the game at my house with about 30 seconds left and GJ heading to the line to seal the win. It’s part of my Comcast package but I don’t like it at all after that. Quote

Maybe your beef is with Comcast. Quote
