slu72
The proof is coming. You want to play the game, call Mike Alden. There will be a basketball game in St. Louis this year with close to 20,000 fans. SLU wont be a part of it. I take it the proof is we're going to have a down year? Maybe... Maybe not. As for calling Alden.... (Long pause here) This is your idea of a joke, right? slufan13
And if you want to get really technical, the biggest game played in St Louis this past season involved Kentucky and Wichita St. Also not sure why you're convinced that Mizzou/Illinois is the biggest game every year. 20,000 fans going to a NIT level matchup doesn't make it a big game. brianstl
SLU, Kansas, Kentucky, Wichita St., and Kansas St. all played bigger games in St Louis than Mizzou. SLU and Wichita St played multiple games in St Louis that were far more significant than the not in tournament bragging rights game.
kshoe
Do people realize they are arguing with one of the bigger anti-SLU trolls out there. Here are some of the things MUTGR has to say about SLU on his home board. The guy is a ****** and we'd all be better off if he's simply ignored. http://tigerboard.com/boards/missouri-tigers.php?message=11768281 http://tigerboard.com/boards/missouri-tigers.php?message=11759027 (This post is clearly obsessive) http://tigerboard.com/boards/missouri-tigers.php?message=11705429 http://tigerboard.com/boards/missouri-tigers.php?message=11462218 http://tigerboard.com/boards/missouri-tigers.php?message=10617602

MUTGR
Bragging rights between 2 NIT level programs is like being the nicest guy on Death Row. And even in down years it puts 18,000 plus people in the seats.
MUTGR
Wrong again. SLU > MU and you know it. SLU is coached by Jim Crews, 55-14 at SLU, and has had 3 straight NCAA Tournament appearances. SLU has retaken St. Louis as the real hometown team- and you know it. MU is coming from the failed Frank Haith Regime, hired in desperate fashion, an ignominious and historic NCAA Tournament loss 3 seasons ago to #15 seed Norfolk State, an offense that itself was offensive, and last season's NIT Not In Tournament home loss to Southern Miss of the greatly watered down C-USA. Plus, MU moved from the stronger Big XII, where it was traditionally unable to defeat Kansas, to the clearly hoops weaker SEC. As for point 2, half that crowd is dressed in orange and blue. And frankly, we could care less. It's past time for MU to drop that silly crutch. Playing 2 games in the state's most populous metropolitan area would not be a burden. There was a time the SLU-MU game was an annual event. The all-time series stands 21-19 MU, and that's with MU winning 4 of the last 5, 3 of those 4 wins being very close games. SLU once led this series 18-17. This is hardly the "domination" that MU apologists like to spin. That record would be different had MU not chickened out on playing the game. Thus, Duck Season continues in perpetuity in Boone County, Missouri, joined by the annual non-conference Bake Sale of assorted cupcakes. But even the Bake Sale didn't get the Tiggers into the NCAA Tournament in '14, as the Committee saw through the Haith facade. Kansas will play in Kansas City, and the game will not involve Mizzou. Now go and access Tigerboard where you belong. You do realize Mizzou had 5 straight appearances prior to last season and an elite 8 as recently as 2009. Both teams are rebuilding, but Missouri is better positioned for the future at this point. We actually caught an unexpected break with Haith leaving. Dwayne's_World
Actually they haven't. SLU - regression to the mean. If you want to play, call Mike Alden. Pathetic. Asinine. Didn't someone post a quote on a previous thread from Alden where, when asked about the possibility of playing SLU, said, "That is not something we are looking at right now." What a pretentious #####. Mizzou has this misguided sense of superiority and seems to believe that they are too good to play SLU. Oh how the tables have turned... Missouri / SLU is not and apples to apples comparison. Missouri allows players in school to play hoops that would not last one semester at SLU (the key issue), it is a big buck state school with tons of money, in a BCS power conference that gets superior TV exposure, 25,000 students each year with nothing much else to do so they have a great fan base before and after graduation, they flood the market with journalism grads who for years promoted Missouri hoops while ridiculing SLU. AND Missouri has avoided SLU for decades, a bunch of p*ssies; the logic being they do not want to acknowledge out existence, if they win they are supposed to win since they have all the money and low academic athletes, if they lose they lose. Go ahead, deny it. So go away and stay away.

CheesyCow, An honest question: when you finish posting in a thread like this and you get up and walk away from your computer, do you feel better? Is it a meaningful experience to sit here and defend your school (which I think you often make good points) on another team's message board. I'm just not sure what you gain out of posting about this stuff on here. I have to think it's more painful than anything.

He was nowhere to be found during this past season. I guess now that they got their native son D2 coach and have gone a couple weeks without a scandal, he feels confident enough to crawl out from under his rock. This isn't the only board I go to but in general I like most of the people on here, especially the ones I've had the pleasure of meeting in person. Just because we disagree on lots of things (most notably SLU v Mizzou) doesn't mean I don't enjoy the back and forth. I also enjoy reading what other people have to say. Suffice it to say my day isn't predicated on winning arguments on here but that doesn't mean I don't enjoy the act of doing it. Same reason people respond to me I'd guess.
