Billboy1
Great local coverage on the only D1 team in the city. Page 6.
bonwich
Tee-hee. Yup, same page as the Mizzou story. (What? But Mizzou got a big photo on P1? Well, yeah, but they are kinda sorta ranked in the Top 10 and off to their third-best start in school history. And when you pay to send a photographer to a game, you also kinda sorta have to use his stuff, especially when he's one of the best sports photographers in America.) But never mind any of that. I suppose that huddling of sports staff on Friday was to plan how not to put SLU on the front page in the midst of Winter Warmup, hiring Fisher, football playoffs and the Blues bouncing in and out of first place. (BTW, technically we're not the only D1 team in town any more.)

pakapablo
With the terrible audio quality of the NM and Charlotte radio broadcasts on 101.1fm D1 is not what initially comes to mind. Not sure what the deal is or was but I had to turn it off.
Franchise_08
It's not just the P-D. Try finding Billiken gear anywhere in this town. No more complaining about the coverage though. Win and everything will take care of itself.
bonwich
Why yes, SIUE is, in fact, D1 now. It'll be interesting to see if/how we cover its game this Saturday.
Bay Area Billiken
SIU-E is SIU-Edwardsville, as in Edwardsville, Illinois, not SIU-St. Louis. One can still find the SLU material at stltoday.com by looking for it, but at times it can be like reading the fine print.

Exactly...we still have a lot to prove so here's to hoping the boys go out there and do it.
Band Legend
The Post Dispatch is against us paranoia is sort of unseemly at this point in time. I think the coverage has been pretty good this year. On the other hand, the radio feeds have been an embarrassment. Rammer sounded like he was using a cell phone inside of a tunnel to broadcast the game. I don't know who's fault it is but it is unacceptable. Not sure what the deal is or was but I had to turn it off. My 101.1 streams disappeared entirely in both the New Mexico and Dayton games, both at crunch time, for whatever reason. Obviously, in retrospect, not much good was missed. Yesterday, I never could even get the 101.1 stream, hence the resort to the Governor Haley Barbour sound-a-like UNCC radio analyst and his incessant complaints about the refs. Billboy1
We need a contract with one station to do the away tv. It should not be a scavenger hunt trying to find who is televising the games. Let's work on getting the road games all televised. Home games on tv are not that important as you can come see the kids play.
kshoe
We need a contract with one station to do the away tv. It should not be a scavenger hunt trying to find who is televising the games. Let's work on getting the road games all televised. Home games on tv are not that important as you can come see the kids play. And which station should it be? FSMW has contracts with the Blues and Mizzou and will give them preference anytime there is a conflict. Not to mention, Fox Sports paid a ton to broadcast Pac 12 games so they won't want to pre-empt any of those. Ch 11 is a WB affiliate and has original programming most weeknights. They also have the rights to Mizzou weekend Big 12 games. People may not like to hear it but they can get better ratings showing a re-run of a chick flick on Saturday night than they can with many of our games. Charter Ch 3 is only available in a fraction of the St. Louis households. Look, I think our t.v. deal sucks and I wish SLU would buck up and pay to have more of the games braodcast but I'm also realistic enough to know that beggars can't be choosers and we need to just get the games on t.v. anywhere possible. Band Legend
I sent Kent Sterling, the program director at 101, an e-mail this afternoon and to his credit he responded back to me almost immediately. He was obviously embarrassed by the broadcast and said it wouldn't happen again. I would encourage everyone on Billikens.com who had to endure that broadcast (During a busy Saturday game I enjoy listening on the radio while I'm doing other work, and one of the awesome things about Billiken basketball is that we really have one of the great two men team I've ever heard doing basketball) to e-mail Kent and let him know that there are plenty of listeners out there who want more and better coverage of our team by our flagship station. E-mail him [email protected]
Billboy1
It doesn't seem like KPLR has problems with broadcasting some games. There has to be a way to get it done with somebody. If you want to play with the big dogs you got to start doing what is necessary. Like I said let's at least get the road games televised. bonwich
SIU-E is SIU-Edwardsville, as in Edwardsville, Illinois, not SIU-St. Louis. By that logic, "St. Louis" has a population of 320,000. Perhaps we really should be playing Bradley on a regular basis.
moytoy12
The whole PD bias must be added to the list with Ahearn, A-10/MVC debate, etc. list. It seems a little silly.

Why don't we just play ball. I think the coverage has been good this year. This weekend we had Cards Winter warm -up New Rams Head coach Blues surging to 1st place Mizzou playing Texas Bills playing at Charlotte Nothing wrong with it, but where do we rank on that list? MB73
Summary: 1) The SL Post has systematically kept SLU down for 40+ years. An occasional good article is too little too late. We win, page 6. We lose, we are on front page will a Billiken player pictured gettng his shot blocked. Subtle but consistent. I canceled the SL Post daily delivery about 2 months ago and now I get calls every week. Suddenly, they are concerned. I launch into them about their radical socialist agenda and unfairness to SLU. Good food critic, though. A great Marketing professor I had helped my career, showed how things are done like the "job" SL Post does on the local team. And he would be aghast if he saw that someone on this board suggested that SIU-E is now comperable to SLU in hoops coverage. (sports socialism?) 2) TV coverage since we went into the A-10 has been a clusterschtook. Its like we are trying to screw up. SLU admin should get off their fat asses and be more pro active in getting road games on TV, in HD, link up thru the home teams channel and get local Direct TV and Charter to help out. Charter Channel 3 non HD? Kiss my ass. And they should get the info out to everyone in the paper and on TOP of their website so fans and future recruits see us on TV. It is hilarious, the fanatics on this board always write in an hour before the game trying to find if and where TF the game is being broadcast. So how does the undecided fan and recruit find out? 3) Hey, overall 101.1 does OK, that was a bad telecast, you have to give credit to Rammer for improvising, what a guy, and besides, we should be on TV. kshoe
Come on-do really think they couldn't do better than page 6. You are either on the front page or not. Doesn't matter if its page 2,3, 6, 10 or what after that. Page 2 is nothing but upcoming games, what's on t.v. and readers write anyway. They did their college basketball coverage on page 6 and we had an article as long as Mizzou's. No need to whine about the Post these days.
