So true. Our big money guys are all soft. I'm slowly making my way down there.

I watched it pretty closely from across the arena in 102.  They guy had seats near the corridor the refs exit through.  He walked 2 or 3 rows down and yelled at them on the way off the court at halftime.  Rather than just walking into the tunnel, the refs engaged with the guy and then two of them started waving their arms in a "you're out of here" motion.  A cop then walked over and told the guy to stay put.  To his credit, he did.  I would have walked off and found other seats figuring the refs were kicking me out.  About ten minutes after the "incident" someone came down the aisle and escorted the guy and his buddy out of the building.  At least, I assume they were kicked out, but didn't see what happened after they walked up the stairs.
I think it was rather weak of the refs.  They could have just walked on through.  I'm sure it's not the first time someone has given them negative feedback as they walk off the court.  Also, if five fans had been yelling instead of just one, the refs wouldn't have felt so bold as to kick them all out.  The fact that this guy was on an island by himself is what lead to his fate.  Sometimes, I feel as if we have too many apathetic fans down low compared to other schools.  I, for one, wanted to buy this guy a beer, but didn't get the chance.

The not taking a TO to get Hargrove a standing ovation seems bad, but also they had a whole ceremony planned in order to celebrate him so let’s not get carried away 🥴

Top 10 moment, Ford invited my son to practice after the Myrtle Beach trip.  He learned of him getting sick and being hospitalized last summer which would cause him to miss some of the home games this season.   He has been a season ticket holder since he was born (now 13).  Ford walked him around the court after practice and they had a cool chat.

Anyone who thinks SLU has a realistic shot at landing Moser should he leave OU….pass me whatever you’re smoking. Would love to be wrong on that.

  9. majerus mojo liked a post in a topic by RUBillsFan in What does the current team make off of NIL?
It seems like the issue isn't necessarily a lack of NIL funds.  It is just a misuse / squandering of them.  We've seen this story over and over again under May & Ford with regards to the men's basketball program.  Less with more.
Don't worry though Ford has a plan now.

Interesting article by Isaac Trotter on 247sports.com. The transfer portal is apparently not any kind of guaranteed way to put together a team that wins instantly. It may work in a few cases, but those examples are outliers, not what the majority of the teams can expect. From the article:
Ten notable teams throughout college basketball filled their respective rosters with seven or more transfers from the 2023 cycle. All eight of the high-major teams on that list are on pace to miss the NCAA tournament.

If that is true, then this season is an even bigger disaster than it appears.

I've spent the almost 2 decades of my career looking at risk mitigation for private individuals all the way up through some of the largest companies on the planet. In pretty much every instance, taking a smaller, manageable hit up front to remove a larger unknown downside is the way to go.
It doesn't matter if you agree with them or not. It doesn't matter if their numbers are meaningful at all. It doesn't matter if their reasons are pure or flawed or whatever. What matters is the ongoing financial health of the institution.
"Shutting them down" puts you at risk of taking a beating in the press (and among your own students and faculty) and going to court with the people asking for reparations. A smart leader works to avoid those outcomes.

Is this really any more "weird" than millions of people who think the 2020 election was "stolen" and that a sizable mob was so stirred up by social media conspiracies that they grabbed their pitchforks and broke into the Capitol? People have plenty of "weird" thoughts.

Maybe SLU understands that banning them from campus or forcing them off campus could do major damage to SLU's case. If SLU wants to get off on the right foot with this group and limit its financial downside, they're doing the right thing by letting them use campus for this. You don't have to like it to be able to understand the optics. It's not a question of strong vs. weak leadership, it's smart vs. stupid.
Meanwhile, I'm looking at how other colleges have responded when faced with the same or similar circumstances. There's a wide range:
Virginia passed a law requiring 5 public universities (including VCU) to "make reparations through scholarships or community-based economic development and memorial programs". Georgetown created a $400,000-a-year reparations fund. Harvard set up a $100 million endowment fund for slavery reparations (Harvard's primary endowment is estimated to be near $50 billion). UVA set up Universities Studying Slavery (USS), a consortium of over 100 colleges sharing best practices as they work through dealing with slavery in their histories. SLU is one of the schools participating.
SLU is one of many schools facing pressure from what is a national movement. I haven't been able to find any legal precedent that suggests SLU would actually be on the hook for a large amount of money. More likely, SLU will work with this group to address it in a way that involves a financial commitment, education, and memorialization, and it won't be anywhere near the numbers we're seeing in the headlines. If SLU actually does become the school that has to work through the legal system for this case, the current judiciary is going to be friendlier to the defendants than the plaintiffs. If it goes all the way to the top, I don't think the people who just killed affirmative action are going to open the door to broad-based reparations.
    SLU will be fine.

Maybe they should also pay reparations for anyone who bought basketball season tickets this year.

Got a chance to see JGood in Orlando when we were there for a soccer tournament.  He played the last few minutes in a blowout loss and got a bucket.  My son was in his Goodwin Suns jersey which is now a throwback.

My computer has a suggestion for you...schedule MS Valley St Delta Devils ...the only other winless D-1 team...Det by 3.  Unfortunately , it shows no real world wins.  In searching the computer world, my computer shows KenPom has you down for a win on Valentine's Day over IUPUI by 4.  Sadly, my machine shows you losing to them by 5.
I would say any win this season would definitely be a rush the court moment for the Titans.   Good luck

Is this a joke? Is it April 1st already? Are you Fing with us? I hope the answer to those 3 questions is no becuase I've been dreaming about watching SLU play in the Maui Invitational for well over a decade but figured it would never happen until we had consistent success and started to prove that our fans travelled well. Do they really schedule that far in advance and just keep it under wraps? I see they released the 2024 lineup in April of 2023.

Of course the AD/PR side was a mess

Among many who were pretty dang spot-on.
    (He did not)
The capitulating stretch of posts 4-XX months later are hilarious. Probably started right when he landed Goodwin. We were star-struck
It is kind of impressive how universally panned the hiring was both on the the board and nationally
Garland was injured and Vandy lost their last 20 games that season (0-18 SEC) before Drew was fired.

Was def in the Drew camp at the time (with most?) He went to Vandy about a week after the Ford news

Great and he wants to coach SLU? C’mon, if he wants out he’ll have have his pick of open P5/6 jobs in March who will be kicking down his doors waving fistfuls of cash in his face.

Passing a rule to pay the athletes a $500 month stipend seems like common sense today.  It was only fair since they were not allowed to have summer jobs and college sports has grown into a multi-billion dollar enterprise.  But the institutions involved, both the NCAA and its member schools, were too greedy.  And too short-sighted.  The folks who could have addressed the issue 20 years ago are retired or gone today.
