When I look at the known commodities at our level who got hired after Crews interim year -- Doc Sadler, Frank Haith, Jim Christian -- maybe the outcome we got was the best one

After all this talk about Obi Wan, I could really give a flying fouck how he'll perform in the NBA. I just want us to beat him next time we play them.

Those knocking Jimmy Bell will be kissing his arse by the time he leaves SLU. This is a kid who was the 3rd string C on his prep squad for cripes sake. The kid mad a commitment to shed 70lbs thru hard work and sticking to a rigid diet. He deserves some slack and a boatload of respect.
I fully expect he will work his arse off and continue to improve. Go Jimmy ring that Bell!

If the Beast folks weren't so GD arrogant they'd take both SLU and Dayton. The add one more E. Coast team for a 14 team league. The MW division would be X, Butler, Creighton, MU, DePaul, SLU, and Dayton.
The East div would have Nova, Prov, St John's, GU, UConn, SH, and take your pick of RI, VCU, Rich, Duq, or Davidson.
Simple. Problem solved. What a conference. Could get like 8-9 teams dancing. Lot of rivalries, new big markets. Reduce expenses for non revenue sports. All good schools academically.

Too bad they could have given him a pair of blue snowshoes to get to the Fetz.

Those 2 go without saying. But even more than them... Marquette. They deserve some serious bad Karma. They screwed us twice.

Out of curiosity, what A10 teams do our fans hate the most? For me, it's Davidson and St. B's. I feel we should wax them every game, but we don't. Losing to any opponent hurts, but for some reason losing to these two just ticks me off.

I expect Dayton and VCU to be good every year and know they will be tough games. St. B's bothers me because I don't know how Schmidt gets any decent player to go there, yet he's had some good ones. The best I can figure his players must really love snowmobiling. Davidson's got an enrollment of 1800 kids, a campus that is a haven for the wealthy kids that didn't get into an Ivy, and set in a post card picture little town. It's not really the bright lights of big city schools.  McKillop goes to the ends of the earth to get good foreign players, then gets just enough good/great (S. Curry) American players to go along with them and wins in a very methodical fashion. Not much flash, not much dash, but they'll kill you from the outside and their spacing on O is about as perfect as it gets. Both these schools are irritating to play... and losing to them just bugs the hell out of me.

It's nice that we are getting a wee bit of notice as a potential bubble team, but unless we go 8-1 and make the final game of the tourney, we're likely not to be dancing. But we really never expected to be this year anyways, so how can anyone be disappointed?
Actually, we should be very pleased with our being 17-5. I just looked at the standings and see where St Bs (our pain in the arse team recently) and see they're at 6-3 too. Their 3 losses have come at the hands of the 3 lead dogs in the A10, SVU, URI, and VCU. In their 6 wins they have handled the lower tier teams fairly easily, while, except for Richmond, our games against the lower tier teams have been very tight affairs.
This indicates to me games against St B's and Duquesne are gonna be toss ups. Bottom line is, we're gonna have nail biters the rest of the way home even against the lower tier teams. If we close out at 6-3 this will have been a successful season for us.

And hopefully ending with an NIT bid.

As for Bell, I am going with what Rammer told Billikenbill and I at Davidson. The whole staff is high on him. He's a gem in the rough and has the potential to be an all A10 player. He's behind because he didn't play much in HS, but once the coaching and confidence level kick in watch out for Jimmy Bell. Will it happen this year, no. But Rammer said the desire, talent, and commitment are there. He will be a player.

I look at Hargrove a little like Mike McCall. Junior had a lot to learn, especially on D. But he made a big leap forward from his FR year to SO. Majerus benched him a lot his first year, although you could see he was a talent. He put in the work and became a solid defender, which you needed to be to play for Rick. Let's not be too hard on TJ as he probably came in even behind McCall as far as HS coaching.

Speaking of Hargrove. I love the kid's energy and athleticism, but when he's on D, you can see why his minutes are limited. He reminds me of a middle schooler as he's constantly running after his man. He seldom seems to set himself in position to guard. Plain to see the gaps in his BB education. Surprised a lot of his deficiencies have lingered this long.
