Mack to CoC seems to be a real possibility. One of their alums told me Mack wants a commitment from the school to pursue joining the A10. He doesn’t want to get stuck in the CAA. Man, I’d love to see that and also add Belmont and Wichita St. Two divisions East and Midwest.

He should have worked with Pitino for a couple of years before he took the job at Campbell. Pitino is noted for developing players and fitting them to his systems and style of play. Ford would have benefited from his mentorship. Like Rick did under Al and Raymond’s.

The fact Ford was never an assistant coach like Moser also contributed to this problem.

System coaches need the right personnel to run their system.  That's why Majerus couldn't win here until he had his guys in place.  Schertz runs his offense through the 5.  Not only did we not have a 5 that is a high level shooter and passer, the rest of the team was the worst collection of passers in decades.

After watching ISU run its offense it would appear Gibby would be wise to stay. Under Ford, surprisingly, there seemed no sets to get him open for 3’s. To Gibby’s credit he got himself open for layups on the occasional cuts to the hoop. He’d get those in Schertz’s system plus many open looks for 3’s. We shall see soon what he decides as of today he’s listed as the 7th most desirable guy in the portal.

Maybe Schertz is just a man of his word.   he entered into a committment and SLU showed him the courtesy of letting him finish his season.  Reportedly SLU even engaged a realtor on behalf of Schertz and his family to start the search process for a new home.   apparently they rolled out the welcome mat for his request to bring some of his players with him.   i.e. SLU went out of their way to make things good for Schertz.   Yes apparently Louisville threw a lot of zero's at him.   but i give some credit to Schertz for holding to his word.

Is $4mm in hand worth a Schertz in a bush?

If/When this deal is finalized, Chaifetz and other involved donors and May need to get a lot of credit.  There are a whole lot of ways this search could have gone south, but they made it happen with their top choice despite a late challenge by a big time program.
Also, If/when Schertz signs the deal, I think he has to start out extra popular here given that he may have passed on a chance to become the next coach at Louisville to become our coach.  It's one thing to beat out a big time program for a recruit.  It's another when you beat them out for a coach you both want.

I like him. Think Sampson at UH and Pearl at Auburn. Two ex cons who’ve done well. Forget the old days it’s a new dawn.

Tell UL we’ll let him out but they gotta buy him out for around $6mil. That ought to fund NIL pretty well for a few years.

I’m amazingly at peace with the whole situation and for some reason confident we will get a great coach.

Regardless of how things progress(I am 99% confident) it is good to be in these conversations and battles for in demand coaches with P5 schools. It means we're doing things right.
